Professional weekending

I woke up Saturday sooo excited. a) Friends in town!  Hooray!! b) Golfing date! c) A non-work weekend!  Finally!! [Whoa exclamation points] You probably can’t tell the volume of Earth Balance in either of these photos, but since the bread was home-made it soaked it all up like a sponge.  There was probably a quarter of a cup of butter.  Pretty awesome, huh. Golfing snacks.  I only ate the apple.  9 holes later we all headed back to Santa Monica for some brunch.  Zengo was packed, but we eventually got a table for 9 (in… Read more >

Award winning sandwich

I always feel a little weird about these blog award things.  I’m not saying I get them all the time, but I do get nominated every so often.  And I like it.  It feels good to be recognized for something I put my heart and soul into day after day.  That said, I feel pretty odd showing off said awards in a post.  I mean.  You guys are already readers.  You come to the site by choice, so presumably you enjoy reading what I write or cook or whatever.  I really doubt there are people… Read more >

Cleaning and grilling

This is what productive looks like.  I love a nice clean house! Kyle and I celebrated our hard work with some grillin’. I quick flip through this book, and the grilled tomato suns caught my eye.  The cook time was nice and speedy (we were starving).   I’d say we did a damn fine job of replicating the cookbook photo. In the interest of getting food on the table stat, we went with store bought veggie burgers.    These ones to be exact.  You can see the ingredients below, but I’m happy to say… Read more >

Party of four

What. A. Breakfast.  You’ve seen this before here.  I live and die by this sauce.   I had it with leftover pizza.    Some dip pizza in ranch dressing…I go for creamy cashew dijon sauce. I was planning on grocery shopping in the afternoon, but the weather was too nice to ignore.  You see, every once in a while, the coastal fog cooperates and I get gorgeousness on my days off.  Which means, beach time! Don’t let the running shoes deceive you.  This was a leisurely walk.  For a July week day, the pier… Read more >

Lactose-Free Crème Brûlée

It seems my expat sister has taken quite a liking to dairy free dessert baking.  It figures she’d develop this hobby after moving to Australia, so I can’t even sample her delicious products.  But at least I get some great recipes out of it.  Here’s the latest one, from Laura: One of the most devastating things to give up when I became lactose-intolerant several years ago (other than nachos) was crème brûlée.  Every time I saw it on a desert menu at a restaurant, I would cry a little inside .  It never occurred to… Read more >
