After a week of saving money on home-cooked meals a la plan, I opted to splurge for the weekend. Lazy me. I was working though, so it was my treat. I snacked on chex and chocolate crunchfuls. The crunchfuls are made with pea protein. I got them in a sample pack a long time ago. I reviewed the plain ones here. The chocolate ones are better but still have a definite pea flavor going on. I could get used to it (and didn’t really mind it that much), but if you’re looking for a… Read more >

It rained here in Los Angeles last week (and effed up my tomato plant, but I don’t want to talk about that right now – so mad!!), so I do have an excuse to make stew in July. I know I said last week’s meals were all planned out, but this stew was actually an unplanned meal. I was going to make chili in the crock pot, but after making the other meals (breakfast quiches, Caprese Caesar pasta salad, etc.) I noticed I had leftover veggies and stuff that I could easily make… Read more >

My AM meals were boring and hardly worth an explanation so I’ll get them out of the way quickly. Breakfast: Cascadian Farms’ multi grain squares + co-op bulk bins flakes & clusters cereal + nectarine + almond milk Lunch: leftover Caprese Caesar pasta salad (I added carrots and extra iceberg lettuce to bulk it up) [Unpictured snack: pretzels and hummus] [Lots] And now for dinner. We decided to do a pizza night, but we cheated a bit by using pre-made crusts. We decided to try Rustic Crust’s organic pizza crusts. One for each of… Read more >

I had such a chaotic day at work, and the weird part was it was totally stress free and enjoyable. For breakfast I had three leftover pancakes from earlier in the week (I always make extra for work and then end up eating half the extras, which leaves me with a measly portion to take to work). Luckily I had banana bread muffins too. My lunch was leftover Caprese Caesar pasta salad. AKA my favorite dish on the face of the Earth. We had this for dinner the previous night. I can’t… Read more >

In my last post I mentioned that we’d be starting weekly meal planning. We’ve never really done this before, but our budget is tight and grocery shopping is pretty much the only area that we spend. Plus it makes sense now that Kyle’s working and his schedule is consistent (as opposed to when he was in school and constantly had random meetings or events or clubs or whatever). Now we know when we will be eating and we can plan things out. BYO lunches. Home-made dinners. Repeat. That’s the plan. Here’s how the first week… Read more >
