I can buy this to be a diaper bag right?

Screen shot 2012-12-31 at 10.32.03 AM

I’ve never owned anything lululemon and that’s for a very intentional reason.

From what I understand, buying this brand is like getting a tattoo.  Once you get one thing, you want another, and then another, and pretty soon you can’t stop…and your bank account is wiped.

I’ve been in the store several times (I’ve tried on lots of yoga pants).  But I just haven’t been able to pull the trigger out of fear that what I said above is true.

But if I buy this bag “for the baby”, it’s a totally different situation.  Right?!?!  You’d be shocked to know how hard it is to find a gender neutral bag with lots of compartments.  If it’s too purse-like, Kyle won’t carry it, but if it’s too masculine, I won’t look cute!  I’ve seen this lulu bag in person and it has compartments up the yin yang.  Plus, it’s nylon, which means poop won’t be terribly annoying to clean off.  And it’s black.

Have I convinced you?  Can you just give me the okay?

IMG_8328

Moving on.

IMG_8327

How awesome is our guest bedroom nursery starting to look!!  We have a (semi) jungle theme going on with this wall mural (it’s a decal that can be removed easily, if, say, we were to move…).  It can’t be re-used but at least we won’t destroy the wall or have to hassle with re-painting.  And c’mon, it’s basically the most adorable thing ever.  There are more stickers that I didn’t put up (a lion, giraffe, monkey, and birds) because we don’t seem to have much more wall space.  Plus, if (when) we do move, it will be nice to have extra wall decals.

IMG_8321 IMG_8324

It wasn’t too hard to put up, but it wasn’t the quickest thing either.  Look at all those stickers!  The tree trunk alone came in four parts, which I had to align perfectly while sticking them to the wall.  It also didn’t have any instructions or photos included (that’s why my computer is open to the screen shot of how the mural is supposed to look as a reference).  I think it turned out pretty great.

IMG_8329

Oh and that weird camera thing in the corner of the crib is a video baby monitor (by Summer Infant).  So we can be stalkers from day one.  I set it up and practiced scanning (the monitor control part is on my nightstand), but I’m still contemplating mounting the nursery camera to the wall.  I can’t tell how much I’ll be able to see from the corner of the crib.  We’ll see.

IMG_7295

In non-nursery news, I have a basketball belly.  It looks fake in the photo above.  Maybe that’s because I’m wearing a non-pregnancy shirt (still in denial about my wardrobe, even with a month to go).

IMG_7298

Here’s a side shot.

I feel good.  Aside from minor physical inconveniences, I’m really doing quite well.  It’s getting harder and harder to breathe and sometimes I have to stand up just to let my lungs expand as much as possible in order to catch my breath.  And like I mentioned previously, my appetite is getting semi-ignored due to the discomfort of eating/feeling full.  But those things are small potatoes now.  I’m much more focused on the end goal since it’s just under a month away.

Doctor appointments are now weekly.  Everything is moving along.  My family is throwing me a baby shower this weekend.  I’ve been going to yoga and walking regularly.  I’m still having cramping.  It’s painful.  Whatever.

We have an appointment later today so keep your fingers crossed that he’s head down (he has been for the past two visits) and I am GBS negative.

I’m not really sure how to describe my emotional state.  To be honest, I’m kinda still cruising along in denial that labor has to happen for me to get my son.  Or maybe denial isn’t the right way to phrase it.  I’m very aware.  I’m just choosing not to think about it.  Every once in a while I’ll have moments where I realize “oh crap this is potentially going down soon”, like I just did while writing that.  But I don’t really know how to prepare myself for birth, so I’m just going to leave the whole issue alone.  Until I’m forced to confront it.  In the hospital.  At least he’s now considered “full term”.  So there’s one less thing I have to worry about.  In my daydreams I imagine none of the bad stuff.  I picture him healthy and happy and in my arms.

I can tell he’s still getting bigger (by the day it seems) and his movements are starting to hurt a bit.  He sometimes hits these weird nerves that are so deep inside me.  I wish I could see what he’s doing in there.  I’m so curious.  He’s so freakin’ active.  You’d think the lack of space would be a deterrent, but he’s perfectly content doing exercises within his confined little uterine home.

So that’s the latest with me us.

My family gets all worked up every time their phones buzz with a text or call from me or Kyle, so these next few weeks will be interesting.  It seems there are people more on the edge of their seats than I am!

Aww Elise the nursery is looking amazing! Well done! I can so relate to how you are feeling right now, sort of mixture of excitement and slightly petrified at the same time :-) ? Glad baby is in the right position! Mine isn’t and we’ve now gone ahead & scheduled a c section for this Saturday morning. Not really what we were hoping for, but there you have it. Anyway, just wanted to comment on your beautiful nursery, that you look great and to also wish you good luck! You will soon be a mama too :-) Take care!

saturday!!! weee!! so soon :)
isnt it crazy how we can plan and plan things and in our mind they go one way and then something else happens and everything goes out the window. as long as both you and baby are healthy and happy – thats whats most important. are you so sick of hearing that? youre gonna be so thrilled by the end of this weekend you wont even care!

Hi there! It went very well thanks. Baby Daniel weighed 3.1kg and 50 cm tall. During op I heard my doc say to the doc who assisted that there was no way he was ever going to turn, so c section was def the best way to deliver. The second they handed him over to me he was just quietly staring at me with the most amazing eyes and that was it for me. So in love you have no idea. The most amazing experience ever & you’ve still got that to look forward to :-) Got home on Tues & not going to lie… Crying at 2 am & constant breast feeding is hard but even more so if you don’t have a nap yourself during the day SO don’t fight it – sleep when he sleeps! Anyway, appreciate you thinking of us. Looking forward to the day your little one arrives :-) Going to be an awesome day xo

I held off on Lulu Lemon for the same reason you did until the end of December when I ended a 5.5 year relationship and decided, in my emotionally delicate state, to purchase a pair of wunder unders. I’ve had them less than two weeks and worn them maybe three times. Last night, the stitching ripped out of the waistband even though I got a size bigger than the sales lady recommended because I felt more comfortable in a bigger size (ahhh post ED-mannerisms). I emailed the company and hopefully they will replace them, but man, I was not expecting that to happen so soon with a $100 pair of pants…

Sorry. Obviously I’m still broken up about it or I wouldn’t comment on your blog about it! Haha! I am just less positive the brand is all its cracked up to be. Even though those darn pants were amazing.

I LOVE the nursery! I work in the stationery industry and owls have been huge for the past couple of years. If you need a few more food kitchy things, Night Owl Paper Goods has a cute line. Anyway, LOVE it.

I also love the nursery! And you look super cute in that outfit. You really do look like you’re wearing a fake belly, but that’s not such a bad thing! My mom is petite and she got wide instead of getting the typical pregnant belly. Not nearly as cute!

Love the bag and good thing there isn’t a Lululemon shop near me because I could get into a lot of trouble. I bought a pair of running pants and shorts from one awhile back, but haven’t needed to replace them yet.

The wall art is awesome, I want that for my room! And you look great, the belly is so cute and growing fast!

Also, you make me miss being pregnant SO stinking much. You are adorable.

Hi Elise!

I LOVE the Lulu bag, but wanted to weigh in — I have a 22 month old and a 6 week old, and I have this bag:
http://www.amazon.com/Skip-Hop-Versa-Diaper-Black/dp/B0041RRZ1U/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1357828914&sr=8-2&keywords=skip+hop+diaper+bag
It’s basically a purse with a ton of compartments. I got a “diaper bag” at my baby shower, but never used it. I hated carrying a purse AND diaper bag. Now, my purse basically has my wallet, phone, keys, and a chap stick, with the rest for the kiddos (bottles, snacks, diapers + wipes). I am rarely out with the kids for the whole day, so I don’t need to bring the whole nursery with me.

Anyway, just a thought — I am so not a purse person, so essentially carrying two, plus Babies, was no good.

As for Kyle, maybe just buy an inexpensive messenger bag or something for him to grab when he takes Baby out?

Reply

16 Elise January 10, 2013 at 9:40 am

thanks for the link sarah! you make a good point about the doubling up with a purse and bag being annoying.

question: do you think it would be a pain to have a separate bag from kyle? i mean, would we just double everything up or would we have to transfer things between us depending on who was taking him? i figured sharing a bag would be easiest, but i guess having separate ones could work too.

I think the lulu bag is perfect for a diaper bag!!!! Great idea! I did my first lulu purchase on ebay and the shirt was used so it was kind of weird. Then I bought a pair of Astro yoga pants in the store on final sale clearance and I love them! And you’re right, I do want to go back and get more. Cute belly pics :)

Your belly looks so perfect! And the nursery is adorable! I have serious reservations about Lulu only because every single person at the gym wears no less than 3 items at a time with the logo on it and it drives me nuts! I hate when people buy stuff just for the logo or name no matter how great the product is. That being said, the bag looks really functional and you’re right about it working for a guy or girl. Plus,,,,if you really hated it as a diaper bag, it would make a pretty rockin gym bag or weekend away bag. Do it…

Go for the lulu bag! If it wears well enough then when your son doesn’t need it any more, you still have a super cute bag instead of a nearly useless diaper bag. The nursery looks adorable and so do you! Way to set an awesome example of how to stay fit and healthy through pregnancy!

Truly, you look incredible and any apprehension about delivery sounds about as normal as can be. I have no doubt that the way you treat your body will aid you in the birth!

Hooray for you! You look great, and so does the nursery. I knowpeople hate on lulu because it’s expensive and lots of other things, but as someone who has literally one of everything from their store, it is the best fitting, longest-lasting, cute stuff. Including the bags. I don’t think you’ll but too much because you are so fiscally responsible :-)

My wife had the same dilemma with choosing a diaper bag when we had our son a few months ago. I could personally have cared less, and I would’ve carried a girly one, even if I wasn’t thrilled with it. We ended up getting her a girly diaper bag and I decided to just get a black and blue backpack. Our son is now three months old, and we both pretty much exclusively use the ordinary backpack for a diaper bag. :)

i have that bag for the gym and i love it! i’ve never had a problem with lulu stuff. it’s all held up WAY better than any other workout brands i’ve owned. so if you take into account how long it lasts and how it holds up, it’s not that much more expensive than other brands.

I know I’ll be the same way – completely not think about labor until I’m heading to the hospital. It’s happening no matter what so why think so much about it? And I love the decal, although it seems more forest than jungle to me!

32 Lisa @ The Valley Vegan January 10, 2013 at 10:44 am

I had a freak about about labor around 32 weeks because I hadn’t read A THING about labor, hadn’t taken classes, nothing! So, I ran out and bought the Bradley Method book (on the advice of a friend who’d used it) and read it cover to cover in a mad dash to the finish! Actually, it worked out great for me, the theory behind it fit my yoga practice & I found it soothing. Then… I just sorta let myself ignore the upcoming labor & enjoy the last few weeks. At 36 weeks, I had some bleeding that put me in the hospital for a few hours for observation and my parents RUSHED from NY to MA to be there thinking “this is it!” Drove me nuts – every phone call, every email. AAH! So i started playing it up as much as I could. If I were on the phone w/my mom, I’d suddenly stop and go “ooh” and she’d get all excited! And I’d say, “sorry, just gas.” ha ha! It still makes me laugh – I’m a mean daughter!! :)

My husband and I purchased one very very similar to your’s but we have yet to put it up on the walls. http://www.etsy.com/listing/94795622/baby-room-wall-decor-nursery-jungle-wall. I’m glad to hear that it wasn’t difficult to put up, just time consuming. I’m with you on the whole not really coming to terms yet with the “giving birth” thing. I’m 32 weeks pregnant and it still seems like some far off event that I don’t have to think about yet…. 8 weeks isn’t exactly far off yet, huh?
I’m glad to hear you’re still feeling good despite being so far along. And have fun at your family baby shower this weekend– how exciting! Good luck with everything, Elise! I can’t wait to see pictures of your beautiful baby boy :)

Love everything about your baby’s room. I’m also resistant to Lulu, and you’ve provided lots of reasons why! I just think it’s awfully expensive. I actually don’t WANT things to last forever. Saw these bags at a local store in Canada and am sure you can get them in the U.S.: Mosey Bags

Here’s a price comparison with a similar style of bag as the one I saw purchased through Amazon which may ease you into make a decision. Gives a spot (which you can’t see in this picture) for a yoga mat and shoes–perfect for mom/baby yoga class!

Oh wow! The only thing more beautiful than that nursery is your amazing belly :) The best thing I ever did to prepare for labor was hiring a doula. Interview a few and choose the one who you click with. They have some amazing tricks during labor! (Hip counterpressure was crucial for me) I love that bag, but the only thing that I see as a negative is that it will easily swing forward and bop baby in the head or fall to the floor when you lean over (all day long putting baby in seat, taking baby out of seat, checking on baby while shipping, etc.) I found a hands free backpack style to be a lifesaver.

Reply

54 Jessie January 11, 2013 at 7:18 am

One tip on the diaper bag. Get one that you can reach into with one hand while holding/nursing/bouncing a baby. So lots of zippered pouches = bad. Magnetic closures = good.

I was 4 days late w/Lyric and by 39 weeks I just stopped calling ppl. Every time I called my husband at work he’s like “Oh god, it’s time!” and I’d say “No, just wondering what color white out baseboards are…” or something along those lines. He’d get so mad at me! My parents were the same way so I just shut off all contact. ;-/

That wall is adorable! But I want to weigh in on the bag issue – that bag is adorable and I want it. BUT, the thing we did in order to minimize the his/hers issue is to use a backpack (North Face, in our case) and I recommend it to everyone. It’s gender neutral, my husband didn’t mind carrying it, it has lots of compartments (and a small purse can fit inside) and now that my girl is three it has become a useful household item. A “diaper bag” won’t get used again (unless you have more kids, that is) and I found (we both found) that carrying the backpack was MUCH easier because it went over both shoulders and left all hands free to deal with the baby. We did have a shoulder diaper bag (one strap, like the bag you show) but found that it took wrestling to keep in on the shoulder and hold the baby and all the stuff the baby had or had pooped or spit up on. And our girl was a super-mover, so there was no sweet carrying of adorable diaper bag with sweetly sleeping baby in sling – and from the sounds of your in utero activity I’m thinking you’ll have a super-mover too!

60 Elise January 11, 2013 at 11:02 am

thanks sarah! totally appreciate your comment. i was concerned about the same thing and hands free does seem like itll be a huge benefit. as it turns out, we already have a north face backpack too, so the perk of saving $ is huge.

Both you and the nursery look absolutely amazing! I say you can always use that lululemon bag for many reasons, so go for it! Although Sarah’s backpack idea is definitely a good one, too. I never would have thought about the hands-free component, and likely wouldn’t have until I had my hands full with a baby, haha. ;)

oooh, I love the mural!

I held off on buying lulu stuff for the same reason, but finally broke down this year when I decided I didn’t want to run exclusively on the treadmill this winter and figured cold weather running (I live in Ohio) was a good excuse to pay the extra $ for quality stuff. I love what I got, I look great in it, it’s incredibly comfortable, it keeps me warm in below-freezing temp runs … but… yeah, now I kinda wanna go back and buy the entire store…
