Next morning…voila!

IMG_1117

Oaty layer on top, fruity layer on bottom.  Yum!

IMG_1119

I’m a little late on the summer time breakfasts, huh?  This one is perfect for a hot summer morning with the sweet berries and cool nutty oats.

IMG_1115

Hearty and fruity in one big bowl.

I used to always dig out the fruit part of my mom’s berry cobblers, seeing how far under the crust I could get without the entire thing caving in…

IMG_1121

Guess I still do that!

So, you want to make your own oat creation?  I’ll help you get under way.  Because if there’s one thing food bloggers love, it’s oats.

OK, I made some mathematical equatations and it would take me 31,78 days to go through the bag 🙂 Still I somehow guess it wouldn´t take THAT long… Your oatmeal creation looks amazing!!

  2. Ellen @ Undercover Runner Eats

Once the weather starts to cool down, I’d honestly say that I could probably do it in 4 months, and that’s if I only do 1 bowl of oats a day, haha.

  3. Greta

Hmmm. Since I eat oats for breakfast almost every day, it probably wouldn’t take me that long. A couple of months, perhaps? Maybe three? And then I’m not even counting baking with them… Well, maybe two, then.

  4. Jessica

5 pounds of oats? No problem. Give me like 2 months.

  5. Jennie

Hmm so according to my calculations, this would be about 50 servings? I’d say give me two months… and that’s being conservative! Thanks for hosting such a great giveaway, Elise 🙂

  6. Kaitlyn@TheTieDyeFiles

Oooh that looks delicious! I seriously think it would take me…2 months to get through 5lbs of oats. I buy em buy the pound as it is!

  7. Kaitlyn@TheTieDyeFiles

    Tweeted!

  8. Trisha

Between my oatmeal eating addiction and granola bar baking…i say a month!

  9. Mariya

I’m not quite as big as an oat monster as you 🙂 so it’d probably take me about 3 months to get through 5 lbs.!

  10. Bethany I.

Well I usually have oats about 3-5 days a week and I usually bake something that I always add some oats in so I think it would take me a little over 5 months but I think that might be shorter because my oat stash is dwindling since I’ve got my sister hooked on them now.

  11. alyssa

so did you already make it through your 5 lb bag? i know you had mentioned it was going quick but how quick?

i’m willing to bet that bad boy would take me through the semester right up to december!

  12. Stephanie

I can’t wait to wake up to hot oatmeal every day during the fall and winter, even though most of the oats would probably end up being used to make cookies and granola.

Since I’m famous for baking Christmas goodies, it probably won’t last past December.

  13. Nicole G.

Okay-.5 cup a day plus baking and such-probably a month and a half? I buy mine in bulk and buy every other week-a lot!

  14. Clare @ Fitting It All In

i’ll say 3 months. my breakfast always has oats and it’s often a night time snack too…

ALSO – I’ve never seen overnight as just regular hot oats made with water, but in the fridge. Always seen them with milk or yogurt. Fun change!

  15. Sarah

I would say four months.. Your oats look yummmmmmy!

  16. Danielle J

3 months. Between breakfast coasts, muffins, cookies, blending it into smoothies 😀

  17. Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine

That is such a genius idea. Simple cobbler, fruit and overnight oats all in one. Just bookmarked this to try before summer produce goes out of season- I love it!!

  18. Liz M

If one serving is 1/2cup I would say it would take me 2 months since I eat them for breakfast everyday (over-night oats of course) and sometimes as a snake too!

  19. Amy

Oh man! I always sucked at these guessing games. (This reminds me of the whole “guess how many jelly beans are in the jar” game).

I’d say 3 months. I eat oats almost everyday, but usually not on the weekends. And my serving sizes vary. So that’s my guess 🙂

The “cobbler” looks great! So jealous you still have peanut flour!

  20. Kristin @ eat healthy. be happy. live well.

    What a fun giveaway!!!

I’d say about 2-3 months, especially as the weather cools down. I typically have oatmeal for breakfast at least 3-4 days a week right now, but will probably up that in the fall. Plus, I use oats in most of my baking and definitely my granola.

  21. Jennifer@ knackfornutrition

I legitimately think I could eat 5lbs of oats in 3 months no problem! 🙂

  22. Emily

After some research I discovered that a 5lb bag of Tropical Traditions oats has 2268 grams, I use about 40 grams of oats per day — I’ll have it finished in about 56 days 🙂

  23. Cari

I think it would probably take me about 3 months– I like oats a lot, but not necessarily everyday, so that would give me time to space it out and still enjoy it frequently :). And your “cobbler” sounds delicious!

  24. Rosie

i’d give myself 2 months? considering I bake with oats, on top of eating them everyday.

  25. Gloria

I eat oats almost everyday, and I use them for baking as well. Hmmm I think a 5 lb bag would last me about a month or so 🙂

  26. Megan

I’d guess maybe 4 or 5 months? I eat oats everyday (boring, I know) but I also bake with them…so my final guess would be 4 months!

  27. Karlee

hmmmm 5 pounds. 3 months. use it in baking for people and dogs!

  28. domestic diva

5 pounds? Just over a month. We tend to go through a pound or so a week.

  29. Kelsea

Hmmmm. How long would it take me to get through a 5 pound bag of oats? Probably a few months because I love combining oats with other cereals instead of just straight up oatmeal.

  30. lynn @ the actor's diet

oh you creative genius, with your faux bfast cobbler! i’m guessing probably 3 months?

  31. Sarah

Initially I thought about three months., but then I started thinkin’ that if I won that bag, I’d probably start baking A LOT more. So maybe 2. Wee!

  32. Katie

The cobbler “crust” is always my favorite part. This looks so dang good.

And let’s see…I usually buy oats in 2lb bags and they take me about 2 weeks to finish. So, one pound per week means that a 5lb bag would take me 5 weeks.

  33. Claire

    I’m gonna go with 4-6 hours 🙂

  34. Rachel

i give myself a month cause i go through things slooooow haha, i just like to make stuff last 😉

  35. katie

Hmmm I would say about one month! Maybe less tho- I freakin LOVE oatmeal and would eat it every meal if i could!

  36. Melody

That breakfast looks so so good! I need to recreate it one day.
I don’t eat oats everyday but I do pretty often, maybe 5 times a week so… 3 and a half months?

  37. Mandiee

I think it would probably take about a month and a half for me to go through 5 pounds of oats since when I’ve bought that much in the past, it’s only taken that amount of time. I eat a lot of oats, plus oatmeal cookies are my family’s favorite. Not to mention I use oat flour in baking. No oat goes unnoticed in this house!

  38. Alana

I think that it would take me 3 months. I’ve been making a lot of different kinds of oat muffins (blueberry, cranberry, and banana nut)–sorry, they’re not vegan. Your faux cobbler looks delicious and very simple to make. I’ll have to try it.

  39. Jessica

I think it’d take me about 2.5-3 months depending on how much I’m craving oatmeal!

  40. Haley

According to my terribly non-precise mathematical skills it would take me 3 months and 4 days.

  41. Kelsey

I eat at least 1.5 ounces of oats per day, so it would take me about 10 days to get through one pound…and I guess 50 days to get me through 5 pounds. Is that right? Math is not my strong suit. 😉 I could totally do it under two months!

your cobbler is so creative! looks lovely.

  42. *Andrea*

i’d say about 5 months!? i practically eat oats every day and love to bake cookies with oats. such a versatile food!! 🙂

  43. Amanda Marie

I’d say three months, but maybe more. I’m much more of a cereal person than an oats person. But give me 5 pounds of cereal and it’d be gone in a week!

  44. GtSkinny GoVegan

Seriously, 1 week! We eat too much and especially something special from a company like Tropical Traditions, which seems to be good about BPA’s and allergens, we would be toast. Toasted Oats that is!

  45. Courtney

I love oats and baking with oats…maybe 2 months? Probably less once it cools down and I want to bake again!

    Courtney

  46. Melissa

I think this would keep me stocked for 6 months- don’t get me wrong, I love oats, but I like to switch things up every other morning too!

  47. Theresa

I’d say less than 2 months for me, especially once I start baking more in the fall.

That cobbler looks delicious. I can’t wait to try it out!

  48. Elizabeth @ RunWithSneakers.com

2.5 weeks, at most. There, I said it. Don’t judge. My hubby eats them too so it’s not just me.

Your cobbler idea is going on my “must make very soon” list. I just need some more fresh fruit in my house, then it’s a done deal.

  49. Amy C.

Hmmmm I’d say probably 3 months. Your cobbler would definitely be one of the things I’d make with them!

  50. Irina @ Perfect Paradox World

Hmmm…the temperature is starting to drop and oats are starting to re-enter my breakfasts. Based on that…3.5 months from now that bag will be gone!

  51. Irina @ Perfect Paradox World

    Tweeted!

  52. blossjoss

I think my math must be wrong because according to my calculations, I’d finish 5lbs worth of oatmeal in 40 days. I tend to have 1/4-1/2 cup dry every day, so perhaps.

  53. Lauren G

I think it would take about 3 months. I make oats about once a week and granola every few weeks. However I am going to start trying to make my own energy bars so maybe just one!! I only make one cobbler this summer, but yours looks delicious and easy!

  54. Allison

I’m going to say probably more like 4 months for myself. I am the only one in my house who eats oats and I generally do not eat them for breakfast most days but I go through fazes. That overnight cobbler sounds delicious.

  55. Rachel C

It would take me 2 months. I have been on a tear lately and I don’t see it stopping anytime soon! Oats rule! Yummy! 🙂

  56. Allison

Tweeted. And now I want to make granola. I keep wanting to make your chia granola but it never gets done.

  57. Melissa S

Hmm….by my calculations that would be about 45 servings. So since I have a serving of oats a day that would be about a month and a half. That excludes baking, so alittle over a month. Your cobbler looks fantastic! Can’t wait to make it!

  58. BroccoliHut

Well, I figure I eat hefty servings of oats three times a week…so five pounds would last me 4 months?

  59. Rebecca

Hmm.. well a normal bag of oats is around 1-2 pounds and there’s like 12 servings, so probably 2 months!

  60. Christine (The Raw Project)

Wow, it’d probably take me 3 months to get through the bag with lots of weekend experimenting! 🙂

  61. Nikki

Since I am sharer with my fiancee who is trying to get in better shape, it would last 2 and a half months.

  62. Taya

Awesome giveaway! Well, I eat oats for breakfast about 6 days per week, and use it in recipes and on yogurt as well. And, just maybe, is might sometimes grab a small handful and eat it plain! I’m the only one who eats in my house, but I go through it quickly and I’m out right now! I think it would take maybe a month and a half?

  63. Steph

    Roughly 56 days. 1/2 cup of tropical oats = 40.5 g = ~ 0.09 pounds.

    0.09 x 56 = 5.04 pounds of oats.

Sounds good to me!!! Pick me, pick me, pick me!!!!

  64. jc

    i say about a month!

  65. Elaine

I’m going to say 2.5 months! I’m already thinking of all the granola I could make…and thanks to this recipe, I’d make this “cobbler” a lot too, yum!

  66. Sayward

    I’ll say 5 months. I think my toddler could go through a pound a month . . .

  67. Prathiba

you are most definitely right that food bloggers love their oats! I think a five pound bag would be demolished in about two months in my house. I think thats a solid guess.

  68. Rachael Ann

I eat 1/3 cup of oats for a serving which is 2.7 oz. I am on a 4 day rotation diet for food allergies so I can only have oats every 4 days. There would be 29.6 servings of oats in the bag which would last me 118.5 days based on my diet. =]

  69. Laura

I’d say right now around two months, I eat oats every single day for breakfast, but if I was using it in baking it would probably only be one month! I’m an oatmeal addict!

  70. Deb

math was never my strong suit, but i would say i would go through the oats in 2 months. i’m drooling over your cobbler!

  71. Danielle

Let’s see, I can go through 2 lbs. every 3 weeks or so. Using ratios, I would say that 5 lbs. would last me a little over 7 weeks, or about 2 months!

  72. Karina

    probably about…..6 months!

  73. Rachel

I’d say about 5mos, it usually takes me about a month to go through a pound…

  74. Rachel

    tweeted!

  75. Heather @ Kiss My Broccoli

Ok, how bout this: 1/2 cup of rolled oats weighs about 0.1 of a pound (yes, I measured because I am a complete dork…but that is beside the point, we’re talking free oats here, lady!) I figure I average about 3 servings of oats a week…make that 4 on weeks that I grind it and make oat flour for my pancakes…squeeze in a little playing room for baking and granola making annnnnnnnnd I’d say I could finish the bag in oh, about 2 months! 😉

  76. Heather @ Kiss My Broccoli

    Just Taaaa-weeted!

  77. Matt

About a month for me 🙂

  78. Eva

With winter around the corner, I’d say 3-4 months!

  79. Yin

According to my mathematical calculations, it will take me 72 days!

  80. Tarah @ NuttybyNature

Maybe 3 months? i love oats and thick rolled are best!! 🙂

  81. kathleen

1/2 cup of rolled oats = o.1lb so it would take 50 days to finish a 5lb bag if you ate 1/2 cup a day. Now then we have to figure out our unknown which is the kicker because when you have a huge amount of something lying around you inevitably find things to do with it like cookies, granola bars, etc.

So carry the 2, use x for the unknown. I’d say it would take me 40 days to finish a bag.

  82. Brittney

I did the math, came out to 77 days 🙂

  83. Lauren

I’m gonna say 4ish months! Total guess but I love my oats 🙂

  84. ashley @ cooking for john

haha i just told john, “oh man,i could win 5 pounds of oats!” he laughed at me. i predict it would take me 3-4 months to go through that bag, and that’s with extra baking! thanks for the awesome giveaway!

  85. ashley @ cooking for john

    i just tweeted! @ashveg

  86. Rika

I go through 2lbs in one month (~30 days) so to finish 5 lbs, take me 75 days!

  87. dana

I use about 30 grams a day, so around 70 days or so, but since I like to bake with oats, I’d guesstimate that it would more realistically be 50-60 days!

  88. Leila

Hmm, I think it would take a couple months for me to go through that bag. I’d probably just do overnight oats for awhile until it started getting cold and then move to hot oats! Mmmm… oats..

  89. Leila

Another entry for tweeting about the giveaway!

  90. jamie @ jamelafamela

pretty sure it’s just becoming summer here in socal- so you’re right on time!

  91. Brooke S

I would say 1.5 months to finish the 5lb bag of oats, I eat oatmeal almost every day and my 4 yr old has it at least 4 days a week if not more.

  92. Amy

It would probably take me 2 months to go through that bag.

  93. Katherine

If I was embarrassingly bad at math, I would include an equation of some sort, but I don’t want to make myself look that bad.

I would guess that it would take around 2 months to finish that bag of oats. I use a lotttt to make granola once the cooler months get here, so that seems about right.

  94. Katherine

If I *wasn’t* embarrassingly bad at math. Apparently I’m bad at English too…

  95. bebe

prob 3 months since i use oats only for baking and granola

  96. Jennifer T.

Let’s see, I buy about 2 pounds of oats every other week for me and my hubby, so 5 pounds would probably last us a little over a month!

  97. Amye

That is a lot of oats but I’d go through it in no time…maybe 2 months!

  98. adrianna

i eat oats nearly every day…maybe once a week i eat something different for breakfast.
    5lbs = 2268 g
    1/2c serving = 40g
so about 56 days of oats…less than 2 months, easily 🙂

  99. Donna C

5 lb’s wow!! Let’s see. I would probably make a lot of oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. I tend to make them in large punches and freeze them. I’d say… 4 months?

  100. Donna C

Oops! Looks like I’m too late for this giveaway. Darn. 🙁

  101. Joan W

I’m wondering if there’s a recipe for this that I’m missing. I need measurements as I’m new to this. I was just told to go gluten and dairy free and I’m out searching the web for yummy stuff to eat. This sounds and looks Fantastic. But I haven’t found rolled oats that are gluten free, just steel cut oats. I’ll keep looking. So, how much oats, water, flour? Does it have to be peanut flour? I haven’t heard of that before.

  102. Elise (Post author)

no recipe. sorry. i just winged it with the measurements. oats are not a gluten grain but there is a high rish of contamination with them so if youre very sensitive i recommend buying certified gluten free oats only. they have them in stores and online. try the website for bobs red mill – they have tons of GF flours and grains. peanut flour is now out of production at trader joe’s but it is also available online. try amazon, iherb, or byrdmill.
