An Ode to Breaking the Fast

Rumor has it, breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

And when you think about it, if such decadent oats (like the almond, cashew & apple packed number above) are my morning baseline, then things are looking pretty good.

This bowl makes me want to sing “on top of old smokeyyyy” and I have no idea why.  Anyone else remember that song?  Hmmm…may need to wikipedia it.

Edited to add: On Top Of Old Smoky is about some mountain that may or may not be in the Ozarks or the central Appalachians…but the better known version is the “On Top of Spaghetti” parody featured on Full House.  What an odd cultural reference (if you can even call it that).  Am I the only one who remembers this random song?

So anyway, back to the massive pile of oats…all covered in cheese nuts and raisins.

IMG_5867

Yup, it’s mountainous appearance is definitely similar to Old Smoky.

As for my more elaborate AM meals…

I have perfected everything from vegan, gluten free waffles, to pancakes, to french toast, to home-made granola.

For some reason, people often assume that the absence of animal products in a vegan diet makes it hard to enjoy breakfast.  But if you’re thinking eggs and bacon are necessary to start off your day, then you are missing out on some mighty fine fare.

Recently I have been eating breakfast in the morning and at night.  It’s so good, why not?

And after that sequence of food porn, how could you possibly doubt the ability to enjoy a hearty, delicious breakfast that’s also vegan?

Time to replenish my resources.

What’s your favorite breakfast? I’ve been feeling adventurous lately and might be down to tackle a more complicated recipe…cinnamon buns?  Coffee cake?  Biscotti?  Scones? Not my typical go-to treats, but if anyone has good recipes to share, please comment/link below.

In the meantime, all the above recipes can be found under my recipes tab.

Aaaah breakfast. Makes me want to go to bed so morning time is here. I can’t pick one favorite breakfast. I love them all. Sweet. Savory. I play no favorites.

Uhh, now I want breakfast. Thanks for that 😛
I’m all about starting the day with a good breakfast! Pancakes, cereal, oatmeal, waffles…you name it. That said, a good cinnamon roll might not be turned down 😉 The recipe in veganomicon is the only one I’ve made but I loved it! It was Christmas morning brunch, though I added cranberries and orange zest 🙂

I LIVE for breakfast. It’s my absolute favorite meal of the day and I often wish it were culturally acceptable to eat it three times a day. Everyday.

Recently, I’ve been really into chilled oats but I also love making choc/banana oatmeal protein pancakes, baked oatmeal and grilled pb & banana sandwiches!

I’m hungry, is it breakfast time yet?

breakfast is such a lovely meal. It rejuvenates the tastebuds.

I’ve been loving green smoothies, alternated or alongside some quinoa porridge or buckwheat with sweet potatoes. Pancakes are also a must, as is this lovely bread I made this weekend with a montage of GF flours, walnuts, apples, bananas, and ginger. It’s heavenly.

Your breakfasts look so lovingly put together. I was just discussing how I needed to make GF Granola — I’ll have to try out your recipe.

And yes, vegans do eat very well! Just because there aren’t any eggs or bacon on the table doens’t mean that it’s not delicious!

Breakfast is my favorite! LOVE this post!!

I just posted a butternut squash oats breakfast that I’m loving lately. It’s kind of like pumpkin, I would imagine. My fanciest morning meal to date has probably been lemon poppy seed scones http://unmitigatedgrub.com/2011/02/06/worthy-of-my-apron/.

    Favorite breakfast: Pancakes!

Love this food-pornful post! Your breakfasts (that looks so weird…breakfastses? breakfastsi? LOL) look so good, especially Old Smokey! And thank you, now I’m singing the spaghetti version!

I made some killer whole wheat blueberry scones once and then lost the freaking recipe! I need to make more…I always forget about making things like that for breakfast. I’m usually a oats, pancakes, or french toast kind of gal.

Thanks for reminding me…I NEED to make your granola!
