About Elise

I’m a nurse. An exercise lover. A whole foods connoisseur. A health enthusiast. And I have IBS. No need to cue the sappy violin music yet... I’ve found that eating a mostly plant-based diet has allowed me to continue to live and love life to the fullest. Although moderation isn’t something I do well, I’m 100% devoted to giving my body pure, wholesome, quality food. Nutritious and delicious, all the time. Hungry Hungry Hippie is a way for me to share my daily dealings with food, fitness, and everything in between.

All the buzz

It’s weird how you can meet people after reading about their lives on a semi-daily basis, and feel like you’re long lost friends… That’s the thing about this blogging community. Food is what we all have in common… But long after our yummy bites have digested, our friendships are what remain. And that’s a beautiful thing.  So is food  🙂 Stay tuned for a more detailed weekend recap.  I can’t even begin to tell you how much fun I had.  Most. Amazing. Roommates. Ever.

Flashback Friday: Hawaiian honeymoon day 3

After a few days of exercise-free vacationing, Kyle and I were both ready to get our fitness-faces on.  So our third day in Hawaii started with an hour long total body conditioning class offered by the Anara Gym & Spa.  It was hard and left us both sore and sweaty – in a good way.  :)  After that we had brunch by the pool.  I got the same tofu salad from the first day (no photo), and Kyle got a cheesy grilled chicken burger.  I don’t have many blog-able pics from the rest of the… Read more >

Worker bee

I’ve been busy busy busy working this week…and even though I haven’t exercised for even half a second (blah), it’s all worth it because I get to spend the weekend with some fantastic friends. My packed lunches have been incredible if I do say so myself.  Satisfying my every want and need – sweet, savory, crunchy, creamy – you name it, I packed it.  It’s all about options people.  The main ingredients in these Heart Thrive cookies were oats, brown rice syrup, brown rice flour, rice bran, natural fruit juices, and lots of dried fruit… Read more >

Vegan waffle taste testing

Last weekend, Kyle and I were invited to brunch. However.  This was no ordinary Sunday brunch.  This was a gathering in the name of brand management (which for me, just meant vegan taste testing). With a task like that, how could I refuse!?! I’m not sure how specific I can get in explaining this…but the main points you need to know are the following: Kyle’s in MBA school MBA school is all about networking Kyle has a classmate who has a vegan girlfriend Kyle mentioned that he, too, has a vegan sig-o (FYI sig-o =… Read more >

The November Issue

I realize I’m ridiculously behind in blogging.  Here’s a preview of what the last few days have looked like for me… Until things settle with my crazy new (work) schedule, I am afraid blogging will be taking the back seat.  Only temporarily though… Make yourself some vegan chocolate peanut butter cups in the meantime.    On a totally different note, I recently rented The September Issue, a documentary about the making of the fall fashion issue of Vogue magazine.  Seeing the behind-the-scenes shed light on not only how subjective the industry is, but also the… Read more >
