Barcelona

How it took me so long to create this page is a mystery.  After living in Barcelona in 2003 (and returning several times since), I consider the city my second home.

Here are a few of my favorite things:

SEE

  • Sagrada Familia (the most breathtaking church ever & my favorite place in the city)
  • Parc Guell (best panoramic views of Barcelona)
  • La Pedrera (Casa Mila)/Casa Batllo (two of Gaudi’s most famous sites)
  • Plaza Espanya (night time fountain & light show)
  • Barrio Gotico (the Gothic quarter with a beautiful cathedral & cloisters)
  • Barceloneta/Port Vell (restaurants & shopping by day, clubs & discos by night)
  • Port Olimpic (the 1992 Olympic site has been taken over by restaurants for posh beachfront dining)
DO
  • Las Ramblas (stroll the lively street packed with vendors & tourists from Plaza Catalunya to the Port)
  • Plaza Reial (dine outside at one of the cafes in this square located just off Las Ramblas)
  • Parc de la Ciutadella (picnic in this scenic park, rent row boats, visit the zoo)
  • Camp Nou (see FC Barca play live)
  • Monjuic (take the funicular or hike to the top of the hill) and see the Olympic stadium while you’re up there)
  • Paseo de Gracia (the avenue for those looking for high end shopping)
  • Barceloneta beach (lounge in the sand)

EAT

  • La Boqueria (open market on Las Ramblas)
  • Barceloneta
  • Port Olimpic
  • Paseo de Gracia
