Bombizzle mix and MIX1

I won’t burst into Annie’s theme song, but it’s definitely a relief to see the sun again.

IMG_7862

Caffeine + froth = a hop in my step

Oddly enough, I started feeling iffy again half way through this HUGE mug, so I curbed the coffee and set my sights on the next meal.

IMG_7905

I guess meal isn’t the right word, but apples need no justification.

Blogging and random dilly-dallying (cooking, emailing, erranding, etc.) around the apartment took up the majority of my morning, and pretty soon noon rolled around and I needed sustenance.

IMG_7883

I added the leftover foamy coffee to the bullet, along with spinach, kale, frozen mixed berries, and ice ice baby.

IMG_7881IMG_7885

Brown sludge!

IMG_7887

Even mud looks good when it’s in nice stemware.

IMG_7889

I had a double dose of this beautiful medicine, and suddenly all was good again.

I took advantage of the non-rain and non-pain and did a jog around my ‘hood.

The second I stepped out the door, my iPod nano’s batteries decided to call it quits, so guess what I ended up using…

IMG_7948

Holy old school.  This is the first iPod model ever (buttons aren’t even in the wheel yet), and it is loaded with serious 90’s tunage.  Wow.  Fabulous interesting playlists aside, I quickly remembered why I ditched it within 30 seconds of my run.  The sound was all over the place and after 25 minutes the screen just went blank.  Sweet.  However, for those few songs I did hear, I was reminded of some oldies but goodies that need to make their way back into my rotation.  In honor of today’s run, I am posting the playlist, ever so appropriately titled “Bombizzle mix” – bahahaha.  It’s from my college running days so it’s heavy on the early 2000’s tunes.  Enjoy!

Jimmy Eat World Sweetness
Hot Hot Heat Goodnight Goodnight
The Killers Mr. Brightside
The Kaiser Chiefs Na Na Na Na Naa
The White Stripes My Doorbell
The Bravery Unconditional
Hot Hot Heat Shame On You
The Killers Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine
The White Stripes Blue Orchid

**Side note: the reason this iPod has music that I no longer have in my iTunes is because of my horrendous computer crash last year, in which I lost all photos, music, and data files permanently.  Most of it is Backstreet Boys (aka stuff I don’t really care about), but I realized today there’s actually tons of other good stuff I need to get back somehow.

IMG_7802IMG_7803

After my run, I showered and downed a quickie PB sammie (not so photogenic) and apple.

IMG_7892

And then bolted out the door for a day of errands in the sunshine.  I walked all up and down Broadway and it was awesome.  I even wore flip-flops!

IMG_7953

I was much happier than I look in this photo…mostly because I went inside for an iced coffee ;)  That siren is such a seductress…

I got home just in time for happy hour on our building’s rooftop…

IMG_7955

And by happy hour, I mean hummus hour.  I read some of Ms. Handler’s dirty secrets while enjoying the sunset over the dirty Jerz.

IMG_7956IMG_7958

Just a peak of our views on Riverside.  We have a pretty sweet set-up with communal BBQs, lounge chairs, etc. for people who live in the building.

IMG_7957

Don’t get too jealous though, aside from the bomba$$ rooftop sitch, it isn’t all rainbows and butterflies…I mean I live in a 4×4 inch apartment with a mini fridge and no dishwasher.  Seriously.  Maybe one of these days I’ll give a mini tour of the apartment so you can see how (sadly) I’m not exaggerating.

IMG_7959

Look what came in the mail!!  MIX1.  I’ve been wanting to try these FOREVER, and I was super thrilled to get to review them – thanks Drew!  I didn’t waste a second ripping into them (good thing they were chilled because I wasn’t about to try and wait for them to cool in the fridge first!).

IMG_7961

First up MANGO!

IMG_7966

Whoa baby…this was creamy and smooth and absolutely delicious.  Plus the stats are crazy good.  The whole philosophy behind MIX1 is that the balance of protein + fat + carbs in the drink is perfect for your body’s optimal performance.  I’ll leave the scientific stuff to the professionals, so feel free to click the link and read all about it.  As an FYI, although MIX1 is lactose and casein free, it does have whey protein isolate.  This flavor had:

  • 15 g protein (hello athletes…muscle recovery much?)
  • 23 vitamins & minerals (can’t hate on that)
  • 3 servings fruit & veggies from antioxidants (not really a problem for me, but still)
  • antioxidants equivalent to 4 cups of green tea (minus the mega caffeine buzz)
  • free of lactose, gluten, soy, and caffeine

Oh, and it’s freakin’ delicious.  It tastes like it’s full of sinful things that I haven’t tasted in years (ie dairy, cream, etc.), but it isn’t!!  I can’t wait to try all the other flavors, I will let you all know what I think as I try them.

IMG_7931

Dinner was inspired by the Jersey Shore…allow me to explain…

IMG_7932

The heap of carrots resembles the fist-pumpers’ spiky hair, while the overwhelming amount of orange…well, that’s just self-explanatory.

IMG_7934

I’m in a very serious rut committed relationship with sweet potatoes (as in, prepare to get save-the-dates in the mail soon for our pending nuptials).  I can’t get enough of the hummus coated buggers.  Toss in raisins and pepitas with a side of steamed delicata squash and I’m pretty much ready to elope.

IMG_7930

Chelsea would be proud of this picture…the only way it could be improved upon would be if the glass of vino were in fact a shot of vodka, or better yet, a bottle of Belvedere.

IMG_7793

Snack attack!  While doing the 2010 Census I munched away on the above plate of pretz, almonds, and carob chips.

IMG_7949IMG_7794

Am I the only one who was really excited to fill this out?  Well, I was…never mind the intimidating demand on the front of the envelope (your response is required by law).  Well, it wasn’t nearly as fun as I thought it would be.

IMG_7945

I ended the night with a Tazo decaf Chai tea…and my fave Wed night line-up.

I have SUPER exciting news coming this weekend, so stay tuned.  It has to do with all the great feedback I got on yesterday’s post about the Measure-Up bowls.  Can’t wait!!!

    Yummmy eats!!

  2. elleneatsbeats

The mix1 looks so tasty. As does that snack plate. I love carob and pretzels! Such a great salty sweet combo. I reeeeally need to try this sweet potato and hummus thing. My hummus addiction rivals yours, so I think its only necessary.

  3. Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine

Mix1 sounds incredible! I love all the protein, minus the whey. Jealous of your gorgeous roof deck, such a cool thing in Manhattan! And your sludge doesn’t look like mud at all…I thought it was a chocolate smoothie!

    Happy St. Patty’s!

  4. Rachel

I feel you about the hard drive loss. There are programs you can download (free) that will retrieve your music off your ipod and put it back on your computer. That’s what I used when my hd died to get my music back.

  5. Katie

I LOVE Chelsea Handler. She was on the Today show earlier in the week promoting that book. I bet it’s hillarious.

Yay for flip flops! It’s warm enough to wear them here today, but I really probably need to get a pedicure first. 🙂

    Hope you’re feeling better soon!

  6. Courtney

Okay, totally random–I have never heard of Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang (or whatever it is/was), but I freaking LOVE Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, lol! Ah, the memories of being 5 and watching it with my sister and singing the songs…good times 🙂

Also, I am super excited to fill out the Census, lol–and I know that is lame. But I don’t care–I love that kind of thing! Forms and questionnaires and quizzes…they make me happy. See? I told ya’ we were long lost twins 😉

And yes! The sun! It has been in the 60s here. In March. AMAZING!

Love, love, love the Jersey Shore inspired meal!!! I nearly spit my coffee all over my computer screen! New to your blog, but from the description of your apartment, I think you really need to do an apartment tour. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!!

  8. elise

ok. i dont want to crush you here, but the census is NOWHERE as fun as i thought it would be…its like 4 questions long!?! basically, are you hispanic, no, ok, that’s all thanks.

chelsea chelsea bang bang is chelsea handler’s new book. have you ever heard of her? she’s a comedian with her own show on E! and she’s FREAKIN’ hilarious. i know you’d love it, since we clearly have the same taste. it’s her third book, and they just get funnier and funnier. makes me want to be her new best friend.

  9. elise

well, im glad i got a laugh out of you…although hopefully next time it wont be at the expense of your precious coffee…or your computer!! haha. thanks for the feedback 🙂

  10. elise

does it replace all your current iTunes music though? because all the programs i found could get the old iPod tunes but then i’d lose the new ones (it was a one or the other deal), and i wanted the last few years of music more…

  11. snackface

GOOOORgeous weather! Shooo, makes me think I need to go back to the city in warm weather to give it a proper review. But the West coast is sooo appealing.

I wanted to try those dranks, too! Unfortunately, whey murders my stomach!

And I don’t think I saw Kyle’s rents, but I easily could have. I saw 48573867584 people. Counted em.

  12. Jenny

is it creepy that i look for the word pepitas in your blog posts? i still have yet to try them, but i love that word!

  13. Jocelyn @ Peace.Love.Nutrition

Look at that Ancient Ipod! haha (I have one too 🙂

  14. Tara

That mix looks great. Even the brown sludge looks great. Happy st. pats!

  15. lowandbhold

I love running to the killers! That’s my go-to Pandora station.

    Love those Mix 1 drinks!

  16. Mama Pea

CHELSEA!!! I started “Are You There God” on the flight to Hawaii and finished it before we even got there! Not exactly War and Peace, but SOOOO hilarious. She inspires me so much with my writing. And you inspire me so much with those sweet potatoes! YUM!

  17. Carbzilla

I’m totally excited to fill out our census (Virgo much?).

Is that dog looking up Chelsea’s skirt – that’s just wrong.

Glad you’re getting some sunshine. We have friends in NJ who are still without power!

  18. samantha

i just filled my census out, too! my coworker looked at me like i was a nutbar (sidenote i just accidentally typed butbar) and i was, “what! i’m just being a good american!” because i figured that was a good enough retort.

  19. Angela @ A Healthy Fit

I just downloaded some awesome eary 90s music that had been missing from my life.

Never heard of Mix1, but now I am intregued to try some.

This weather is awesome! Oh how this Cali girl has missed the sunshine!!

  20. ellie

Your smoothie looks like my bran flake chia pudding. What was that you said about it again? 😛

  21. Katie

Great mix! Jenny Was A Friend of Mine is my favorite Killers song. And All The Things That I’ve Done.

  22. janetha

the pretzel snack mix looks delightful~ salty & sweet. nice jerz shore comparison hah!

  23. BroccoliHut

I’ve pulled that trick before–I’ve had many smoothies that look like poo (or worse, tar), but serve them up in a pretty glass–problem solved.

  24. Nicole

haha. Your blogging is super entertaining. The eats look fabulous, and your way of saying things makes me laugh aloud. Anywho – thanks for the inspiration to make some raw fuel!! Take care 😀 And ahh I want to try those juices!!

  25. cmb0096

I know! I just filled my Census out today (at work, lol…shhhh…don’t tell!) and I was totally bummed! I was like–where is the rest?! I was all excited to turn the page and keep going but…? It took me all of 2 seconds to fill out. NO fun 🙁

I have not heard of her (sadly, I can’t afford cable, so I miss out on the joys of E!), but I am going to my library’s website now to request her books! I am guessing there will be a long waiting list (?) but I can wait–they sound good and if you like them, like you said, I am guessing I will too…thanks for the tip! I am *always* looking for good new reads! I think I will also see if they have a copy of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang–I have had that song stuck in my head ALL freaking day, lol!

    Courtney

  26. Katie

Yesssssss. I polished off a case of those Mix1s in about a week – so good. Mango and blueberry were my faves. Hooray for flippy floppies and chelsea handler, too!

  27. The Foodie Diaries

ok. i cannot, for the vida of me, find this delicata you speak so highly of. WTF. did you hoard nyc’s entire stash? i love your bombizzle mix. i sometimes love listening to old ipods (i have the same music sitch. F computadoras yo) bc its so fun/conducive to ejercicio to rediscover old, forgotten musica.

OMG THIS WEATHER. PLEASE NEVER LEAVE. NUNCA!

  28. ksgoodeats

Your brick, I mean iPod, is the 2nd one. The original had buttons on the outside of a moveable (not moves when you touch it but actually scrolls around) wheel. I had that bad boy for YEARS. It got to be like the cell phone on Saved by the Bell – ancient but so memorable!

  29. elise

this one does have buttons on the outside!!

  30. elise

honestly, its like my obsession of the decade…its so good!

  31. elise

well there we go then! glad you think it looks tasty. kyles not in agreement, but thats cool…we have each other 😉

  32. elise

she’s my idol…and im both proud and not proud of that very fact, but there you have it. i was literally laughing out loud while reading!

  33. elise

poor snackie…sorry that they are disastrous on the tum…i think this may be the ONLY time i have had someone be jealous of my GI tract. EVER. piece of sh!t system that i have…

next year im coming to expowest. so there will be 48573867585 of us.

  34. elise

    fabulous, right?

  35. elise

to be perfectly honest, the fun name is one of the reasons (ok, THE reason) i bought them initially…now im in love with ’em

  36. elise

    you too!!

  37. elise

i totally did!!! its impossible to find at WFs now, so anytime i go to a smaller market i get 3-4 at once…hoarder alert!!

  38. elise

your blog is where i first saw them…well, that and WFs…i LOVE LOVE LOVE them.

  39. Adam

Weird. I have been to see almost every single one of those bands. I love The White Stripes in particular. They just came out with a new live cd yesterday, it is great, i heart live music. I’m thinking you should fix that ipod and fill me in on the rest of the playlist. Any old school RHCP or U2 on there? You would be my hero.

  40. elise

omg…i just saw that the white stripes came out with that…must get it. i saw them live – amazing show! hes so brilliant. i have a fatty crush on the lead singer of the killers…too bad hes taken 🙁 there is old U2 but nothing new…i adore joshua tree to pieces. as for red hot chili pepps…i have no idea…the dang thing is blank screened again for the next who-knows-how-long…

  41. Becky

Nice mix! I actually have J.E.W. ‘The Sweetness’ on my iPod right now and usually jam out pretty hardcore when it comes on while running. Your squash creation looks yum!!
