[more] omni meals for the family

Leading up to our trip, I tried to make the most of what we had leftover in the kitchen and freezer.  The meals were mostly huge salads with grains – my effort to be cheap and use up every single perishable item in the house so nothing went to waste.  As you can imagine, these weren’t the most inventive or exciting meals (also they were insanely repetitive) so I didn’t bother taking pics.  I did, however, have photos of some of our dinners from the previous week that I never got around to sharing…so here… Read more >

A day of food

We ran out of eggs before the end of the week but I refuse to ruin the budget by going to the store.  I gave P the last two, scrambled with spinach, just like he likes them.  Luckily I had one hard boiled egg left for me.  I layered the slices atop avocado toast.  We both had blueberries on the side. First and foremost

I’m planning to do a (photo heavy) post recapping Thanksgiving later but I needed to first get this out there.   Pie!!  More specifically.  Chocolate Pecan Pie!!   My mom is a dessert queen.  She’s known for her amazing cheesecakes and pies.  My dad wants her to sell them, they’re that good.    So it’s not abnormal for the Thanksgiving checklist to include four desserts.  Occupying the top spots no less.  Everyone loves a checklist right? Pre-baked beauty.   The OG recipe. Chocolate Pecan Pie [adapted from Bon Appétit] Ingredients: 1 1/2 cups (6 oz)… Read more >

BA noodles

Bon Appétit is probably my favorite magazine.  I say that without a subscription though.  I love their website.  I steal my sister’s magazines.  It counts.  Clean Eating and Vegetarian Times could be in the running for the top spot too.  I really just like reading about pretty food.    The June copy of BA has SO many things I’ve bookmarked to make it’s ridiculous.  Summer food is fun.  Sometimes I wish I could split myself in half so I could have enough time to do both the career thing and the other stuff.  Like making… Read more >

Happy Meals

I dunno if you guys want ideas but here are some of the latest and greatest (?) from the hippie kitchen.    Kale salad with candied nuts, dried cranberries & smoky lemon tahini dressing.   1 large bunch of kale, washed, de-stemmed, ripped into bite sized pieces 1/3 cup dried cranberries 1 cup candied nuts (I used almonds and pecans) Bon Appetit’s Smoky Lemon Tahini Dressing – I halved it and added 1 tbsp of both miso paste and maple syrup   Wednesday was national frozen yogurt day (uhhh, that’s a thing??) so Menchie’s was… Read more >
