Double party weekend

Every once in a while there are certain weekends which seem to have everything happening.  All on the same day.  You know those weekends, right?  Where you have plans to do one thing and then you find out there’s four weddings, a baby shower, a football game, a marathon, the Art & Wine Festival, and all the other things going on…this past weekend was one of those.  So is October 12th.  Why is everything happening on Oct 12th? Anyway, I switched my Saturday shift to allow me to attend two birthday parties.  The first was… Read more >

Hot-urday

Last weekend’s (eek, super delayed post, this is from 2 weekends ago!!) al fresco was indoors because IT. IS. SO. HOT. I pretend like I’m upset about this, but in reality, my complaints are all big fat lies.  I love the sun.  Summer months are the sh!t.  But maybe I should back up.  I actually took pics of the whole day’s eats.  Well, almost.   I had banana bread with two eggs for breakfast.  We went to the co-op and the farmer’s market for grocery shopping, followed by a lunch date at Crepeville.   I… Read more >

Egg-cellent

Egg salad on a fresh baguette.   Soft fluffy bread.  Tangy mustard eggs.  They’re a damn fine pair.    The egg salad has 3 eggs (3 whites/2 yolks) + 1 tsp stone ground mustard + 1 tsp honey mustard + 1 tbsp plain greek yogurt So good.   I sprinkled a dash of salt on top afterwards.  And now in hindsight I wish I’d added a touch of paprika.  I’m so obsessed with eggs right now. Over the last few weeks…     Proof.

Time and a half

Knowing my friends are frolicking in the sun while I’m begging patients to go on walks and administering suppositories…it’s tough.  It doesn’t matter HOW much you love your job, when the weekend arrives and others are not working and you are, it’s just a bummer.  Holiday weekends are especially difficult.  My three day weekend was spent in the hospital.  Wah wah.  Ordinarily, I avoid 3-in-a-rows like I avoid C. diff, but knowing I was getting Memorial Day pay (time and a half) and the weekend differential made it sort-of okay.  After all my income has… Read more >

Philly: Corner Bakery and Markets

I got over 10 hours of sleep but still slept in quite a bit on Saturday.  So did my parents and Kyle.  Eventually we made our way to center city for brunch.   You can’t go wrong with the Corner Bakery Cafe.   We got a bunch of things  – some to share, some to hoard.   Look at the spread.   Kyle and my dad both got the same thing – the Farmer’s Scrambler – with eggs scrambled with red and green bell peppers, red onions, mushrooms, potatoes, and cheddar cheese.  Normally it’s served… Read more >
