The weekly menu

I have a week of food coming your way.  And I’m pretty proud of myself because despite Kyle being out of town I did a decent job of still making myself quality meals…as opposed to just half-assing it and rummaging through the fridge after putting P down. Once again, they’re all out of order. When I’m planning the week ahead, I have a vague idea of when I’ll do certain meals based on their hands-on time and my schedule, but I like the option to switch it mid-week if I don’t feel like a certain dish that day… Read more >

Weekend activities and my first recipe with bacon

This past weekend was all kinds of awesome.  We hung out with new friends who I’m certain will become old friends.  P got a taste of his first slip ‘n slide.  I ate a vegan ice cream sandwich that blew my mind.  And we got to enjoy some quality family time before Kyle went away for work.  Summer is his busy season so the sporadic posting often has to do with me being a solo parent while he’s off at random solar sites. The Thomas

My mom and I took my great Aunt out to lunch last week.  I googled a few places in Napa (near where she lives) and then passed the decision off to my mom, who chose The Thomas.  Aside from the weird name, the place was great!  Awesome staff, awesome ambiance (we ate upstairs and it was a gorgeous day) and awesome food. Australia: Bondi and back

Sunday was our last (full) day in Sydney 🙁   We slept in a bit and after feeding P, drove over to Bronte for brunch.  Bogey Hole was one of several cute looking cafes on the main street along the beach front.  They were all pretty packed but after a short wait we were able to snag a spot outside that fit us all, including a very fussy P in his stroller. Kyle got a banana smoothie and toast with jam.  I think we were all feeling a bit blah from the previous night. Laura… Read more >

Australia: Sushi night

Wednesday morning was pretty much the same – family walk to the store to get eggs and bananas, then we cooked and played with P until his morning nap. We tried to hit up Bird and Bear Boathouse for lunch (a place that I read several great reviews about) but once we got there we found out they weren’t serving food, just coffee and cookies.  It looked like a great place to sip coffee with pretty views but we needed more than cookies to tide us over.  It was a hike getting there from Double… Read more >
