Perfect Fall weekend

Trrrrrrrrouble. [Don’t be deceived by this photo, he’s not crawling.  At. All.  He rolls to get everywhere.  He’s surprisingly mobile for only using rolling as a means of travel.  I’m sure I’ll be swallowing my words later but it would be nice if he showed some signs of crawling.  Like maybe contact with the ground.  On the other hand, he’s basically ready to walk since he holds himself up using the coffee table or wall as support…hmmm…tummy time to standing?  Kids are confusing.] On Thursday my parents came to Davis to visit for a few… Read more >

Mocha Caramel Oat Cookies

Remember how I don’t keep multiple desserts in the house at once?  I lied.  I have become a treat-seeking-night-shift-nurse-who-demands-sugar-as-a-reward-on-her-days-off.  That’s a thing in case you didn’t know.  I’m sure there’s a DSM-V diagnosis somewhere in there if you look hard enough.  Food as a reward, huh.  Not a good plan Elise.  Psychiatrists avert your eyes.    So about these guys. Beyond that, though, they’re not… Read more >

The every-day eats

I am bad about taking pics of my daily eats (like I used to) but I get requests for them more than the “real” recipes…so here are  bunch of the quickie things I throw together on the regular.  From last week… Millet with sautéed spinach, baked tofu & avocado I made the millet in the rice cooker, sautéed the spinach with sesame oil and tamari, and used Wildwood tofu. I made extras.   I also re-made this salmon pasta, but in a HUUUUGE vat.   Lots of veggies to use up?  Throw them in!  I… Read more >

I used to do this every day

Holy crap I actually took pictures of everything I ate in a 24 hour period!  I can’t believe I used to do this every single day… Starting with breakfast.    I slept in til 9 but if I didn’t have a child I would have hidden under the sheets until at least noon.  I was still recovering from night shift shenanigans and pacman wasn’t pleased.  Given that, both of our appetites were out of control.  I fed him first of course, but then got right to work on my own grub. I wanted pancakes, but… Read more >

Sharing meals with my munchkin

I worked nights this weekend and only got 2 hours of sleep while home during the day, so I make no promises on the clarity or content that follows… I have no idea when I made or ate this lunch bowl.  I don’t even know what day it is. It had Beyond Meat southwest strips, carrots, and avocado.  A really simple chop salad – if you can even call it that!  I’m still loving Beyond Meat.  The southwest flavor isn’t too strong (I was worried it would only be good for a Mexican themed meal,… Read more >
