Free time

Our days of mid-week play are over.

Kyle started his new job this week, and it’s probably almost as sad for him as it is for me.  I loved having him around on my days off.  A lot of the time he was working from home, but I’d still rather sit across from him in silence than have him gone at the office all day.  Oh well.  School is done.  Now we are grown ups, I guess.

On our last day together (a Saturday), we slept in, lazed in the backyard sun, and then went for a long walk around town.

I had this oatmeal for breakfast.

And this burger for lunch (I told you I was obsessed with sandwiches lately).

  • French Bread
  • avocado
  • hummus
  • iceberg lettuce
  • tomato
  • Amy’s California veggie burger

So tall I had to smoosh it down with my hands big time.

Smoooooosh.

On our walk, we went to Ocean Ave, then down to the SM Pier, then north on the beach until we hit PCH, and then back up through the Palisades (via a massive hill).

I made a point to have our route converge with the Montana menchie’s

It was hot and my sweet tooth was calling, what can you do?

Peach, vanilla, and chocolate silk with cinnamon toast crunch and heath bar crumbles on top.  Hell yeah!

The peach was the best thing ever.  I wish I had gotten a huge thing of just peach.  Next time.

Once we got home, it was time to get things straightened out for the week ahead.

Menu planning.  Grocery shopping.  Ready, set, break.  We went to 3 stores and it was rather exhausting (and I even like grocery shopping!).  But in the end, our budget will thank us, I’m sure.

For dinner we had manicotti.  Unfortunately, the leftovers aren’t as plentiful as we’d planned.  I’m going to have to reassess our appetites for this meal planning stuff because we rarely have leftovers, and nearly all our lunches are supposed to be leftover portions from the previous night’s dinner.  Hmmm…

Omg I want Menchie’s!!! I’ve only had it once, when I was in Denver! I think they have it here in Chicago but only in the northern suburbs 🙁

Amy’s Kitchen burgers are the ONLY premade veggie burgers I will touch. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them. In fact, love almost all of AK products. I eat very clean, but will pick up a prepackaged Amy’s burrito in a pinch (or if a bad craving hits).

That dessert. THAT DESSERT. I may just have to go to Montana for that. 😉

I really need to try menchies! I’ve see them all over LA and have heard that they have a daily vegan flavor, but I’ve yet to make it there. Peach froyo sounds amazing!

Everything about your frozen yogurt selection sounds amazing.. with the exception of peach. I’m highly allergic to peach! 🙁 What a weird food to be allergic to right? haha.

I’m sorry about the boy having to leave you for the day… but it’ll make your nights that more loveable <3

sometimes i think there’s something wrong with me, given my affinity for having dessert every single day. sometimes multiple times a day. and then i read your blogs. and i feel better about myself.

I asked for your advice about the sugars in Clif Bars and you gave me great guidance, so I’m hoping you can help with sodium. I eat very little processed foods, so it’s pretty simple to keep my overall sodium intake in check. I know we need some sodium but I can’t make up my mind when it comes to things like Amy’s burgers and meals-things that are otherwise fine except for the sodium content. What do you consider your limit of milligrams to consume at one time? I heard Jillian mention it when she had her radio show and she 400 or 500 at one time was a lot-so I guess that’s just stuck with me.

im not the best person to ask about sodium because i dont exactly practice what i preach 😛

i tell patients to keep their daily totals under 2 g (2000 mg). i remember that jillian podcast too…she’s totally right. processed food is always higher than stuff you make yourself because the sodium acts as a preservative. just do your best to limit your intake of shelf stable, prepared, and frozen foods.

big picture, youre awareness of the issue alone is probably an indication that youre doing ok.
