Heavenly humm-becue

January 6, 2010 · 40 comments

I woke up at 10 today.  Wow.  Haven’t done that in a while.  I wanted to sleep in so badly though, so I will consider it a success.

IMG_6293IMG_6250

I passed the AM with a lot of drinks.  MochaTea.  Pee.  Pee.  Pee.

“Empty yourself and let the universe fill you.”  Check ;)

For those who asked, here’s the recipe for the “cheeze” sauce I made yesterday:

  • 12 oz. silken tofu (the entire box)
  • 2 tbsp nutritional yeast
  • unmeasured amounts of salt
  • 1 tsp miso paste
  • dash of paprika

Try it!  So good.  Anyways, I had the most random lunch.  Well, I guess it was more of a brunch?  It was my first “meal” of the day, and it was eaten before noon, but it wasn’t typical breakfast fare.  Soooo, breakfast? lunch?  brunch?  whatever – you decide.  I don’t care what you call it.

What I DO know is that I was a serious cookie monster afterwards.

I don’t know what you’ve done to me, but I know this much is true…

IMG_6691

I wanna do bad things with you.

Clearly I’ve been watching a lot of True Blood.  With zip, zilch, nada on my agenda for the day, I made some humm-becue and steamed some (3) sweet potatoes.

IMG_6708IMG_6710

And went to town on ‘em.

IMG_6700

Totally fabulous.

While I ate, I put together a master grocery list and worked up the nerve to get my cardio on.  I had a pretty un-focused exercise sesh, but I was just proud of myself for getting out of the apartment.  I am really struggling to stay motivated in this weather.

I stopped by Whole Foods on the way home, but couldn’t carry everything I needed to restock our fridge, so I settled for the basics to get by on until I make a big trip later this week.

Dinner was born out of my desire for veggies and more humm-becue.

IMG_6697

Steamed broccoli, steamed butternut squash, on a bed of spinach, with BBQ sauce and hummus on top…plus a stray horse carrot on the side.

IMG_6698

Fiberrrrrific.  Then I added fuel fiber to the fire and had 3 apples.

IMG_6709

Yes, THREE apples.  The thing is, I wasn’t full after.  In fact, I wanted more.

IMG_6197

Happy to oblige.  :)

Work tomorrow.  Hope I didn’t forget how to save lives in my week off…KIDDING!!

Just decided to de-lurk :) I love your blog so much! Andddd I’m obsessed with True Blood (obsessed with Eric to be exact…you’ll see why in later episodes/seasons) 1 apple just doesn’t fill me up either lol (not to mention I crave multiple ones throughout the day) and even though I want more my entire family will yell at me because they eat them too and if I had my way with them they’d be gone in 2-3 days tops hahaha

hope you enjoyed your week off!

Maybe it was something that was in the air yesterday- I wasn’t full no matter how many greens or pineapple I consumed… Maybe it was a “Full” moon?! As far as whole foods- not only would you need 4 arms to carry the stuff home- also need 4 jobs to pay for it :) Enjoy your time off!

Love that pile of vegetables. Then again, I am the master (mistress?) of massive heaps of vegetables, so … as long as it doesn’t involve tomatoes or avocados (which are fruit, aren’t they?!), I’m in.

i’ve been feeling so unfocused lately too! i think it’s the stank new yawk air

i really love food shopping right before meals it makes coming home and putting the whole shibang together even more fun even though i’m pretty sure its the number one thing to not do because i always end up buying shit that i really dont even need and then pairing it with other shit that i really dont need.

haha classy language julie.

save ‘em lives today girl

Hummbecue. I visit the great town of Hummbecue AT LEAST once a day. I usually make a pit stop at Appletown too.

Geesh, I am a dork.

Ok, I confess. I’m a lurker who rarely comments. However, since I’m off from work today due to the snow (and compassionate leave) I’m getting my butt in gear and commenting. Don’t have anything amazing to say though apart from that I love your blog, and am an aspiring RN – currently a third of the way through my nursing degree. Wish I could just do a one-year conversion course but my former degree was in Theology and Religious Studies! Cardiac nursing sounds good, it’s an area I’m considering working in once qualified.

Anyway, enjoy work tomorrow and good job with getting to the gym! I can only just get myself to yoga once a week. Another new year’s resolution- get more active! x

I have such a hard time staying motivated in the winter. It’s just too cold outside to want to do anything but curl up in bed!

cookie monster? apple monster? same thing. I can never stop at one. and yes I am never motivated when its 2 degrees outside. Hell i am not even motivated to go to work or school. Id be a hermit if it weren’t for a lil thing called responsibility :)

10 is like the middle of the afternoon for me! Well done on sleeping in – that takes skillz.

Your dinner is perfection in a bowl! I hate grocery carts so I pick up a basket thinking that I can stuff my groceries in there. When I’m done shopping, 95% of the time I’m pushing the basket on the ground – so sad when you can’t carry everything you need!

Mmm, apples, cookies and sweet poatoes? All the best food groups right there.

I love True Blood – have you read the books?? So hard to put down and they have so much more background info than the series.

Oooh that mocha swirl looks LOVELY! And yum. I’d GLADLY live off of hummus, apples (gala, pinklady or fujiiii), bread/pita (chips) and sweet potatoes if i could–i know you would too–
with a couple obligatory hermits thrown in here and there ;)

HOW GOOD IS TRUEBLOOD?! I’ve only seen season two and should really make a point to watch the first one soon !! How creepy/amazing is the intro song?! hahahha….

Not bad sleeping in until 10a for one who wakes up waaaay before the buttcrack of dawn for work days. =) It reminded me of the sleeping marathon we had that one time…do you think those days will ever come back? Haha! Oh and I saw my first episode of Trueblood eva! Pretty dang entertaining, but sadly since we don’t have HBO at home, it will be my one and only episode until Durazo decides to buy the dvds.

And yes apples galore! So far I’m up to one a day…haha

p.s. Trueblood scouted at the studio yesterday…I’ll keep you posted on whether or not they shoot here…;)

I think this is my first time commenting. HI Elise! I’ve been reading your blog for a while now ;) I love visiting!

I’m a 17 year old high school student in Vancouver who will be attending a nursing school this autumn! My dream is to become a nurse. all the more reasons to why i keep coming back to your blog!

Great to know that I’m not the only apple obsessed being. I considered myself weird eating two at once in a day but now I can feel much better! haha I have no idea where the thought of eating multiple apples is bad came from. Now I shall do so without any guilt. :D

another thing is I love how we both share the love of broccoli and sweet potatoes! If I was stranded on an island I can live my life entirely content with an endless supply of sweet potatoes.

=)

Dang, I WISH I could eat three apples, lately I’ve been getting fiber-full off of just one. Thing is, I LOVE them so much I don’t care.
