hummus soup

Sundays = the end of the weekend

SAD!

Unfortunately, this Sunday was especially blah. The cloudy, overcast weather pretty much reflected how I felt.

Enter caffeine love.

In the interest of preserving my current mood, I’m going to stop reflecting on yesterday’s thoughts…just know I was kinda a Debbie Downer all day.  I’m not sure why, as there was no true reason I should feel gloomy – I was just stuck in a funk.

Blueberry chobz + dried papaya spears + apple slices + melon = pretty fruity breakfast!

After my AM sugar loading, I headed to the gym.  I wasn’t even remotely interested in working out, and I had to drag myself there in the hopes that I’d get pumped up once my foot hit the mat.

…yeah, that didn’t happen.  I eked out 60 (weak ass resistance filled) minutes on the elliptical before heading home.  Sure, I stretched a bit, but you can bet your ass I slipped all abs/arm exercises.

I was starving when I got home, and really wanted carbs…rather than inhale a loaf of bread (which I could have easily done in less than 5 minutes flat), I took a little timeout to really think about what I wanted.

As Bethenny says “check yourself before you wreck yourself.”

So this was my attempt to eat mindfully, and practice my favorite Housewife’s NY Times Best Selling tactic…while making sure I had what I wanted, without going crazy.

IMG_2516

In the end, I decided to make some hummus.  No recipe used, just chickpeas, EVOO, and salt to taste.  It was a bit runny, but I ‘aint complainin’ (all the better to drink you with my dear).

IMG_2515

I dipped 2 pieces of my favorite carb (Alvarado Street bread, obv) into the hummus soup.  I DIE.

Carb check!  Even though I wanted 10 more pieces of bread, I decided to take a little break and had a seitan cutlet to get some protein.

IMG_2514

But in the end, I knew I was not going to be satisfied unless I had more bread.

IMG_2517

Here was round #2

It was effing tasty too, but I felt like I was sloshing with chickpea soup after having TWO full bowls of hummus.

Food coma.

I was tired after all that food, so I took up residence on the couch.  It was delightful to just curl up in a blanket and doze off.  I watched the Prez speak at Notre Dame, finished my book, and read blogs for the better part of the afternoon.

I had some munchies, too.

Snacky day much?

I wanted to get in my greens for dinner, so I loaded a plate with the usual suspects (cukes, sprouts, tomatoes, carrots, and 1/2 an avocado on a bed of spinach).

Along with…

IMG_2518

You guessed it!  The last of the hummus (note: I made this less than 4 hours before).  Sick?  Or super?

And yet, I STILL wasn’t satisfied!  WTF?

IMG_2523

This is when the day took a turn (for the worse).  I’m not gonna lie, it got a little ugly.

My sweet tooth was calling, and I answered.

IMG_2526 IMG_2527

And answered.

IMG_2529

And answered.

IMG_2528

And answered.

You get the point.

So, there you have it.  Dirty laundry aired.  Given the time of the month, it’s not really that surprising?

I mean, I’m not pleased, but I’m not going to let it ruin me, so Monday is a new day and hopefully my cravings will have died down (at least a little bit).

Hahaha, I lived off of PB&J sandwiches for an entire year + in my first year of college. LOL Well, pizza, alcohol, chicken wings, french fries, and all that jazz. But PB&J was an essential.

  3. Molls

look at that chocolate love towards the end of that post… yum!! and hummus soup sounds so interesting!

  4. Thinspired

I’ve always wanted to make my own hummus but never have because I don’t have a food processor. Do you think you can use a blender?
I’m so glad I’m not the only one with hungry days…and I think you did a great job of eating everything you wanted without going crazy and still watching your portions. Bethenny would be proud 😉

  5. Sarah (lovINmytummy)

I appreciate your honesty and that you aren’t beating yourself up. We’ve all been there. Okay, maybe not with bowls full of the world’s runniest hummus, but I’ve hit the carob a time or two.

  6. runsarah

I made hummus today too, mine turned out runnier than usual, I may have to bust out the soup bowl too 🙂

  7. jesslikesithot

  8. adrianna

dont even worry about it, my dear. sometimes our body’s needs are unexplainable, like jumpsuits w/ parachute pants are a hot spring item.
i ate 1/2 a cake’s icing last night. at least your eats were healthy 🙂

  9. Andrea of Care to Eat

I so feel you on the monthly snackies! It’s either eat, eat, eat, or raging bitch, right? Sometimes I throw caution to the wind and do both 🙂

  10. SunshineACH

Better hummus than hooch, right? Doesn’t make you feel any better, but there are worse things to go nuts on.

Love the honesty. Trying to figure out how to start my own blog (unsuccessfully) and am hooked on yours. Considering you gave me some great new uses for hummus that I would have never tried, you officially have a new fan.

Rock on with your bad, bitchy self.

girrrrl work. those. vitatops. oh and that chickpea smush looks SO good. I don’t blame you for going back for seconds..I would too haha.

Let me know if you decide to run the 10K on June 7th! It would definitely be fun to say “hi” in person rather via keyboard haha. Thanks for the tip on the headphones. I will deffinitely be using those suckers

  12. Missy

Now I will be heading right home and breakin out some vitatops after seeing this! You made them look amazing with that peanut butter! I would be going back for 2nds too!

  13. biz319

I’ve actually never made hummus either since its so readily available now – and in yummy flavors like horseradish!

  14. Erin of Care to Eat

I love Bethenny. She so smart.
We could definitely hand out with her even!
Then we’d go pig out at your place later, ha!
Thanks for the gym motivation. I just finished a snickety snack and all I want to do is watch youtube videos. But a half assed workout is better than none at all, as you clearly know!
    Love!

OMG–I had a total food day yesterday too! All of your eats look fabulous, by the way, and you really could have done much worse…ice cream, french fries, and chips, anyone?! At least you ate good healthy food!

Hope your Monday got better :o)
