Is Steve-o really vegan?

October 2, 2009 · 0 comments

I’m all about VeganMoFo.  October is already my favorite month, so I was delighted to read Gena’s latest post and find out that there is yet ANOTHER reason to smile now that it’s October.  I mean, why not dedicate an entire month to celebrating a healthy lifestyle!  In honor of this special Vegan Month Of Food, in each post I am going to reveal a celebrity who is vegan.

Today’s vegan celeb was someone I was QUITE surprised about…I mean after years of torturing himself for entertainment purposes, who would ever have expected STEVE-O to be vegan!!  Well, it’s true.  Maybe now he’s making up for past behavior that was…how shall I say thisnot so animal friendly.

So on this 1st of the month, I woke up bright and early, got myself ready for work, and zoom-zoomed to Starbucks for a pre-shift java…which is when I discovered Starbucks’ VIA.  Hmmm…

Here are my thoughts on this new product: ready brew is great and all, BUT, why oh why would you go to the store and then buy an instant form of coffee?  If I am IN a Starbucks, I’m OBVIOUSLY going to buy freshly brewed coffee.  So until they start selling the VIA packets in other stores (or places where the BUX is absent), I don’t see myself trying them.  Has anyone else tried them yet?  Your thoughts.

I was so busy at work that the above eats weren’t consumed until 2 pm.  As a result, I went from 0 to 100 mph in less than 3 seconds.  You know what I mean?  My stomach on empty is NOT a pretty sight, so (to put it nicely) I went overboard in trying to compensate.

My love affair with sweet potatoes continued with the spinach salad of chickpeas, raw corn, and raisins.  I enjoyed hearing your ideas of foods that DON’T go with sweet potatoes (although, some of them didn’t sound too bad to me!).  In the words of Tim Gunn, I could “make it work.”

The pistachios were kinda stale, but I was so hungry I still ate them, as well as the oat bran pretzels, and dried papaya

Anyways, I got off work and came home to a Kyle-less apartment (late night in the office).

Meatless meatballs, sweet potatoes, and broccoli…all toasty warm.  Perfect for a chilly October day, no?

I may have added some nooch to this post-photo ;)

After my first course, I planted myself on the couch with a box of crackers and POM iced tea.

Next thing I knew, I had gone through half our tivo-ed recordings and the whole box of crackers.

WTF!

I wasn’t even hungry.  In fact, I’m pretty sure I was full.  But I was bored and Kyle still wasn’t home, so I did a bad thing, and opened up another snack.

Not cool, Elise, not cool.

Since I was feeling the salty food, I opted for some OG flavor pretzels crisps.

I cracked open a tub of hummus and went to town.

Yes, that was FULL just a mere hour before…but these things happen right?  And at least it was quality food.  Nutritious IS delicious

Kyle finally came home on the late night.  Since it was midnight and he was eating, I had to join him…I mean that’s just being a good fiancé, right?  Marriage 101.  Duh.   What’s that phrase?  The couple that chows together stays together…

“The couple that chows together stays together…”

So THAT’S the secret! Hahaha–I am all for it…it is no fun to eat alone, right?!

And, I am sorry–this will probably show how completely ignorant and out of it I really am, but who the heck is STEVE-O?! I clicked on the link and followed it, and I am STILL not sure who he is, lol. Is he famous?! I am lame, I know…

my family’s motto is: “the family that drinks together, sticks together” (sarcasm and self-deprecating humor at its finest).

my thoughts EXACTLY about starbucks instant coffee. you still have to wait for them to put your packet of coffee powder in a cup and pour hot water on it, no? don’t get it.

i cannot be trusted around any open package/container of crunchy food, it taunts me until i finish it.

i’m so excited about veganmofo to see everyone’s ridiculously good looking eats!

So I heard that they introduced instant coffee to compete with the European market for instant coffee (yes, we actually drink that stuff a lot!). But there is no real market for it here so I don’t get WHY they are trying to introduce it. Also, in the store my friend was in where they were pushing it, their argument was that “I can’t even taste the difference between this and brewed coffee” wtf? I feel like this speaks pretty lowly of their brewed coffee if it isn’t any better than an instant blend. I think marketing the instant stuff this way is dumb.
I haven’t tasted it. I’m just so baffled!!

I definitely have those days where I eat and eat even when i am full – no shame! Plus being a nurse you run around like cray cray (yes I’m snagging some Homegirl slang) so you definitely burn some serious calories =)

oooh! what kind of oat bran pretzels are those? i’ve only had the snyders organic sticks (SOOOO GOOD) but i like your shape better. because i’m a freak and WOULD let food appearance dictate preference.

also–i worked for a language research firm and Starbs VIA was one of our clients. we were doing the research about for their british customers bc they launched it there first. but from the transcripts of study groups i read, the brits were kinda mixed about whether it was good instant coffee or not. of course, my firm was only concerned with finding a way to make it SOUND good-tasting. this was probs a huge breach of confidentiality but whateva haha. i want to try it bc they used the slogan we came up with!

As a coffee fiend, I don’t know why anyone would want to drink instant on their own free will. My dad is an instant drinker and I think he’s loco!

I may have to recreate that dinner – sweet spuds, broc, and balls. What could be better?! You know the clean plate club? What if you don’t plate your eats? Would it be the clean box club because if so I think that’s a fantastic club to be apart of especially when it comes to pretzel thins and hummus.

Hope you had a good Friday!!

What flavor POM tea is that? I’ve tried only the hibiscus one so far. Still can’t compare to kombucha, of course.

I’m loving all the sweet potatoes! They are heavenly. And the yams at Gary Null’s are lovely right now. :)

I work for Starbucks and I honestly love VIA. I didn’t think I would like it because instant coffee is always so gross, but it’s really really good! Also, Starbucks came out with VIA as a way to enjoy a cup of Starbucks coffee when you aren’t able to go into a store. It’s made to carry with you in your purse to have whenever you are in a pinch.

Pretzels and hummus is such a good combo!

I’m a carnivore at heart, but those Meatless Meatballs look meaty enough to eat. Gimme! Gimme!

they are so good! and although i have no basis to compare, i think they would be better than “real” meatballs
