Is there an app for that?

October 14, 2009 · 0 comments

I don’t have an iPhone, but if I did, I know I would be obsessed with all those fun little apps.  If only there were one that could help me decide what I wanna eat!  Sometimes I can’t for the life of me figure out what I’m in the mood for. Do you ever have this problem?  This morning I stared into the fridge for a solid 5 minutes, then went to the pantry, then back to the fridge again…and I still came up with NADA.

I didn’t feel like anything sweet or savory, and I was (gasp) sick of fruit.  To tell you the truth I was thisclose to having brussel sprouts for breakfast!

So frustrating.

In the end I decided on a latte and a bowl of (French vanilla almond) granola.  Riveting, I know.

Later I had a big bowl of fruit while reading blogs.  Both were equally delicious.

Then I strapped on my Polar F6 followed by a sweatshirt AND sweatpants (fall is frighteningly cold already!) and headed to the gym.

In the words (and inflection) of Jerry Seinfeld, WHAT’S the DEAL with this BRR?!?

I eked out a 6 miler on the elliptical, and then rocked some planks til my core was aching.  It was really busy at the gym, so I didn’t stay on the mats too long.  Once home, I made a toasty warm sammie.

Grilled PB & carob chips with apple (slices) a la mode.

This. Was. Beyond.  (3rd fave Rachel Zoeism)

Before heading to PT, I snacked on dried pineapples (the amount actually eaten would be too embarrassing to show, but if you know me at all, you can only imagine).

Physical therapy was fabulous as always (hi Rob!).  I’m just hoping I will make it back to the west coast with my neck and back in one(ish) piece – 6+ hour flights crammed in a 1×1 inch airplane seat don’t exactly do miracles for my spine sitch…ya know?

Dinner was a little old, a little new, and a little rando.

IMG_4768IMG_4724

The Carrot ginger sweet rice soup was just as good as last time.  I may have to make another batch soon.  I also had a very simple side salad with honey pretzel twists (which are my fave combo of salty and sweet).  Not exactly a normal dinner, but last time I checked I’m not being graded on it normal.

IMG_4783

I used the last of the sweet brown rice in a heavenly combination of butternut squash and raisins.  For all of you who have been asking, yes, I steam my root veggies and sweet potatoes.  I used to be a queen of the oven, but my roasting skills have deteriorated ever since we switched apartments.  The new oven has never really warmed to me (pun intended), so for now, I am relinquishing my title.  You can call me queen of the stovetop instead.  Or maybe the queen of steam?  Ok, maybe just Elise.

There’s nothing too thrilling to say about dessert.

3 different types of grapes.  Who knew?!

The only thing worse than not knowing what to eat is eating something and then wishing you ate something else! I’d say you went with a good choice ;) LAHHHHVED the Zoe-ism.

What are your first two Zoe-isms? I like “it’s BA-nanas” and of course, the classic “I diiiieeeeee.”

What is the DEAL with this cold? I ran today and had to wear long sleeves. Me no likey. If its cold here….oh gosh, I should be dreading school tomorrow! bbbrrrrr

I think we have very similar taste buds–both food & lingo wise. (I can’t stop saying THIS. WAS. BEYOND. I get weird looks.) I seriously drooled all over my keyboard–especially at the sweet brown rice/bnut/raisin combo. Gaaah.

I also take solace in the knowledge that you, too, do not reflect your portions in your pics. I be perpetually embarrassed if I fully disclosed what goes down in some of my snack sessions

And uhhh now I NEED honey wheat pretzels; problemo as it’s 10:30 and i’m out. FAIL.

A better question would be do I ever NOT have that problem!!

I hate this weather… I think that if it gets even a BIT colder, I might just die. (Hmmm. Didn’t I just forecast my own death?)

Oh oh oh! I bought pineapple to roast… but I’m an idiot and I bought rings, which I’ve since decided are more suited for grilling, so I will have to get chunks to roast. Maybe try steaming them!? ;)

Ah man, I hate that feeling when I open up the fridge, and I can think of NOTHING to eat. I would get an iPhone solely for the purpose of using that app if it existed.
That PB-Carob sandwich is so going on my to do list.

This: Grilled PB & carob chips
Hello awesomeness!

I have a child so sadly, if I plan to eat, I better plan it out in my head what my go-to grub is gonna be while I am doing fun things like folding laundry or changing a diaper b/c the 5 mins in front of the fridge that were wasted were gonna be the only quiet tear-free moments so dont wanna waste them. Brain never shuts off so for me, it’s not a biggie LOL

xoox

Are the pretzels actually a part of the salad? If so, are you able to spear those guys? Or do you wrap em in a lettuce leaf?

This is perplexing! And my question reads like a math problem.

Yes, I stand in front of the fridge and nibble on this or that until I decide what I want (usually something I’ve had 54 times in the past month). Or the kicker is when I make something and decide I don’t want that so it all goes back into the fridge and I make something new. I’m so indecisive when it comes to eating.

I’m so sad Rachel Zoe is over for now – I die. Can I just say that I went through a phase where I zipped honey wheat pretzels in strawberry yogurt. It was crazy delicious and now I want some!

Ugh I did the SAME thing this morning. Couldn’t make a decision and pissed I didn’t put oats in a bowl last night and I had some cereal to review so it was like a “fineeeeeeeeeeeee I’ll have that” type of b-fast.

stop your mouth with that sick of fruit.

its WAY too cold here. I saw my breathe in the air.

grapes are so amazing.

i have a friend that can only eat when she craves something. and she is always craving something random. Cheese. Indian food. a burger. mexican. a certain type of bread. etc. and when she doesn’t have cravings, she literally doesnt eat…and it’s really upsetting to her, because she ALWAYS has one thing that she HAS to have. it’s the most random and interesting thing. she’ s a huge foodie and an amazing cook too.

its so funny you should say that bc recently i was thinking how at work i have to eat when my lunch break is and i have to eat whatever i bring, but on my days off, i really just eat when i want and what i crave…which is why it is so annoying when i dont know WHAT i want?!? how fun that your friend has such creative cravings though!!!

What are your other fave “Zoeisms”?!?! “This. was. beyond.” is pretty hilarious. And that sandwich looks AMAZING. The second I saw the combo of carob and pb in a sando…i knew it was on!

And oooh the pineapple rings are back. There’s a few of these pineapple CHUNKS in one of my tj’s trail mixes, and i’m finding myself picking those guys out more often than not….too damn good!

hope you’re having a great day elise!! ps-the hummus was lacking in this post. get on it! ;)

I always pace back and forth between the fridge and the pantry when I can’t decide (which is often). The husband always asks “What are you looking for?!” and I foggily reply that I have no idea…something good.

I also love the honey pretzels. Perfect taste combo.

Is the Jerry Seifeld thing sort of like the Chandler, “Could I BE any funnier?” I’ve always wondered that because I was more of a Friends girl than Seinfeld.

I love your dinner…just the idea of a savory AND sweet dinner involving rice makes me happy :)

41 elise October 16, 2009 at 6:08 pm

yeah. i adore friends and seinfeld. i can quote friends like its my job and kyle can give you any random fact about seinfeld, and i literally mean ANY fact. so its a constant battle of the reruns in our apt…

I am SO indecisive sometimes when it comes with what to eat too! I hate it, I finally just choose something because I know that I would never really figure out what I wanted.

It’s way too cold here for it to only be October, I’m not prepared!

Love the variety of grapes, definitely something I don’t enjoy enough :)
