Kale Off

Last week I had a kale chip show-down.  I really like kale chips, but I’m kinda picky about them.  They are expensive to buy, but a pain to make (and never as good in my opinion).

Brad’s RAW naked kale chips

Pro: good flavor

Con: poor texture (they were semi soggy and didn’t crunch like chips aught to)

Will I buy again?  No.

SnackLets spicy chili-lata kale chips

Pro: holy spice!

Con: holy spice! (these packed a serious kick that I couldn’t handle for much more than a few bites at once)

Will I buy again?  No.  They were too hot for my delicate palate.  But I still adore the double o cheesy flavor immensely and will buy that one time and time again.

SnackLets giddy up BBQ kale chips

Pro: addicting flavor

Con: nada

Would I buy again?  Yes.  I loved these so much I ate the whole bag.

Other honorable mentions:

Kale Krunch tarragon and dijon – best kale chips on the market, but SO freakin’ expensive

kaia foods sea salt and vinegar – yummmm

What brands have you tried?  Or do you make your own?  Or do you think kale chips are gross?

I am totally opposite in my opinion – I think store bought kale chips are nasty, and home-made is palate orgasm. I always make my own kale chips: cheesy kale chips, orange-flavored kale chips, salty kale chips, chocolate kale chips…

I don’t think you can ever beat home-made!

I went through a Brads phase (naked flavor) but they are so pricey and I think I ate so many I got sick of them (oops). I’ve made my own twice now…getting better but they keep ending up too soft. I really like rawknrollcuisine.com “notchos” flavor. they usually have them at Erewhon if you ever trek that far east. Do they sell the SnackLets in LA?

I LOVE the Cheezy Chipolte Kale Krunch chips! They are a rather new obsession for me and my husband & kids think I’m
nuts for eating them. They are super pricey though and I’ve yet to try my hand at making my own. They have a new Hibiscus & Pink Peppercorn flavor that should be hitting the stores soon. I’m anxious to give it a try!

kale chips are the shit. i am addicted. but you already know this because i text you nonstop and tell you.

why didn’t you talk about alive and radiant? those are the best ever. EVER. i’m obsessed.

i don’t care for rhythm. brad’s are ok. they’ll do if i can’t find anything else.

I don’t think I’ve ever tried store-bought kale chips, but now I’m thinking I might try them. I like the homemade kind, but they’re so NOT portable for taking to the hospital with me–they’d end up in a million pieces, I’m sure. Thanks for the reviews!

I’ve made kale chips before, and didn’t think it was difficult. I just tossed with EVOO & salt, and baked them in the oven. It was actually really easy. I’d probably just make my own if I had a burning desire for them, since I imagine buying pre-packaged ones are expensive and kale is SO CHEAP there is no reason to spend ridiculous amounts of money on it.

So glad you posted this. I am always leery of bagged kale chips 🙂

i dont like those simple ones as much…i like the kale chips with a thick nutritional yeast/cashew/red pepper coating…soooooo good.

  18. Elise (Post author)

they are definitely not portable and they often raise a LOT of eyebrows and inquiries…

  19. Elise (Post author)

i thought i did tell you about alive and radiant??? those are the best ones ever!!

  20. Ammie
