Keeping cool

I guess summer is over.  But this past August and September have been abnormally hot (for the typically mild Santa Monica).  In the absence of the beach breeze, here are some of my favorite ways to chill out…

Putting my feet up in the coolest place in our apartment.  The guest bedroom future nursery upstairs gets a great breeze when the window is open.  I sit in the rocking chair with my face to the screen and think of how I’ll be in the same chair months from now with my baby.  It’s weird and awesome to imagine.

Frozen banana chunks in peanut sauce (I usually make it with almond milk, peanut flour, maple syrup, and salt).  The nutty sauce freezes to the banana making a delicious shell.  It’s basically a deconstructed peanut butter & banana smoothie.  I’m calling it a snack, not a dessert.

Eating a salad the size of my entire upper body.  Spinach, avocado, carrots, baked tofu, red bell peppers, and a Thai peanut dressing from Greens Up!  Veggies much?  It’s very refreshing and makes me feel amazing.

Sambazon organic acai berry sorbet.  Kyle discovered this for me when I was in the height of my morning sickness and I sent him to the store with instructions to bring back something frozen and organic and semi-healthy.  He did a great job and I wound up eating the whole thing in a day.

Other options: cold showers, lemonade, walks to the ocean, etc.

What do you do to keep cool?

Oh wow! That salad, your snackies, & you- the glowing-mom-to-be, all look absolutely gorgeous:).

Swimming & ice cold diet coke( so sue me), are my favourite cool down methods. I live in Scotland though, there’s rarely any cooling down to be done!

That salad! Oh my goodness. It looks amazing! And you’re absolutely glowing! I can’t imagine how weird it must be to imagine yourself with a baby in a few short months. SO exciting. (:

they all sound like awesome ways to beat the heat, especially eating a pint in one sitting. totally guilty of doing that with the so delicious coconut milk ice cream!

and that deconstructed banana and peanut sauce concoction is making me drool! mhmm!

You need a chillow!! It’s a gel insert to put on top of your regular pillow but underneath the pillow case. I only wished they’d had them when I was still having babies. 🙂

It has been so frigging hot this summer! It is STILL in the 90s and humid and nasty here 🙁 Without AC, there is no way to stay cool, and other than a fan and eating my weight in watermelon straight from the fridge, I have no tips, lol.

Question for you, though–have you found another source for peanut flour? Other than on-line, that is?

i know right?!? vegan ice creams are so expensive though, so i always feel bad about eating them in one sitting. it has nothing to do with the calories…just the cost!! i have had to stop buying coconut based ice creams. theyre too addictive!

Rain/wind/snow/cold/ any other unpleasant weather condition you can think of, arooouund 359 days a year, I’d say. The rest of the year , it’s gloriously, warm & sunny:p. Bah, which direction to your country?

    Thanks for the DC reassurance:)!
