Montezuma

I regret to inform you all that my recent absence was totally unavoidable…

[Don’t read this next part if you don’t want to hear the dirty digestive deets]
1.5 days after I got back from Mexico I was knocked on my ass (literally) by Senor Montezuma.  If you’re wondering why the onset of this Mexican bug was so delayed…welcome to my GI tract.  I knew something was amiss the day we flew home, but it wasn’t until Friday that I was cursing my gut and running to the toilet every 5 to 30 minutes.  So.  Effing.  Miserable.

Anyway.  I have nothing to say about that 50 hour period of time.  I was home alone (Kyle was away for business) and as much as I wanted to get an IV in me stat, the idea of crapping my pants in a friend’s car on the way to the hospital was about as appealing as it sounds.  Dehydration vs. awkward carpet cleaning story…my judgment may have been off from electrolyte imbalances, but I ended up going with the suffer in silence option.

I was too weak to get downstairs (or back up to bed), so I was limited to minimal trips to the kitchen.  OJ was about all I could stomach anyway.  Plus, every time I ate or drank it just went right through me.  Thank goodness a shipment of resource spring water.  It’s 100% sustainably sourced and the bottles are made with 50% recycled materials.  The electrolytes saved my ass.

Kyle came home the next day and went to the store for me.  As you can see, I was in the mood for some pumped up juice.

IMG_3272

I love the naked “machine” juices.

IMG_3271

Blue machine was my first foray back into real (non OJ) food.

I slowly nursed my GI system back (although it’s still not quite right).  And then made up for the days without kcals in true style.

Cookie dough + ice cream bites [vegan]

IMG_3281

So Delicious coconut milk minis, Eat Pastry vegan chocolate chip cookie dough, Almond Dream vanilla bites

IMG_3283 IMG_3284

Oh my freakin’ word, you guys.  This cookie dough is insane!  I don’t know why I haven’t tried this before (yes, I do).  The ice cream bites were okay, but I didn’t like the ratio of chocolate to ice cream (needs more ice cream).  I haven’t tried the So Delicious minis yet, but I’ll report back.

So now cut to Sunday night…

IMG_3296 IMG_3293

I finally made it out of the apartment!

Sunday night family dinner:

  • BBQ Field Roast sausage
  • grilled corn
  • GF couscous

IMG_3301

Kyle is a grill master.  This was the BEST corn I’ve ever ever had (exaggerations are entirely possible given my recent poor appetite and intake).

IMG_3295 IMG_3299

He looks the part doesn’t he?

IMG_3302

I had 2.5 sausages (finally some protein!!) but the highlight was definitely the corn.  I could have had two more ears.

Hopefully I’m back to normal tomorrow?!  It may take a while for me to recap our Cabo trip since I don’t even want to LOOK at the photos in the near future.

  4. Emily

Aww…you poor thing! That sounds absolutely miserable.
I’m glad you’re starting to feel like yourself again. It’s amazing what cookie-dough can do!
PS: I’m hopelessly addicted to Eat Pastry products AND the So Delicious Minis. They’re both delicious!

I’m happy you’re feeling better! That sounds totally awful. While I’ve never experienced it for more than half a day or so, I can totally relate to completely emptying out your system in…umm…that particular way.

Eat Pastry cookie dough is AMAZING. Sometimes I put a few tablespoons in a little bowl (with a few extra vegan chocolate chips of course) microwave it for 30 seconds, and it makes a little warm half baked cookie bowl. Kind of like those Betty Crocker warm delight things. Except, you know, vegan and without all the gross chemicals.

Woah, I totally know how you felt. And it’s really “crappy” feeling that way! AHHH! Happy you feel better and are able to eat food now! I was getting excited about the Almond Dream ice cream bites until you said that they didn’t have enough Ice-Cream. BOO! Maybe they will read your post and fill those bites with more of the good stuff!
SO delicious ice cream is real good though! SO I hope those don’t disappoint!!

I was wondering what had happened to you! Glad you’re feeling better!!

And I’m going to need a shipment of those Almond Milk ice cream bites to Australia stat…

Oh no, that sickness sounds super brutal. I hope you feel back to normal asap! I hate those sicknesses where you literally can’t eat anything, it is definitely not fun.

  9. Linds P

I had to laugh out loud at your Kombucha, gotta get those probiotics going ASAP! Don’t forget some soygurt you poor, poor thing.

Maybe it’s just me, but whenever I get diarrhea I’m convinced I contracted C-diff from the hospital, but I am super paranoid about that- good thing you were away on vacation to pinpoint where that outburst came from!!

Also… I’m packing my bags and moving in with you so that I can have access to such epic vegan products as you. I hope you don’t mind…

You poor thing! Thank goodness you were home before it hit…it would have been awful to be that sick on the airplane!
