My first triathlon

I was always vaguely interested in doing a triathlon.  It was one of those things in the back of my mind that I thought sounded fun and intrigued me.  But, to be perfectly honest, I didn’t really envision it as a solo mission.  I clearly needed a push from an outside source.  A few months ago my dad forwarded me an email for a discount on a sprint triathlon.  I think the only thing he wrote in the body of the email was “are you joining me?” A few things went through my mind as… Read more >

Home is where the health is

Whenever I go home to visit my parents I’m reminded about how lucky I am to have been raised with health in the forefront.  The importance of eating well and staying active was a given, so I have never seen wellness as a chore.  Eating balanced meals and participating in sports were, quite simply, just the norm.  I now know that I was very fortunate to have grown up this way.  Thank you mom and dad!  Prior to my arrival, my mom had been to TJs to restock the bar stash.    And hummus stash…. Psychology of taste

I’m sorry but I’m not sorry that I took a mini-break from blogging… I go through these lulls from time to time…and I don’t want to recap my triathlon experience until I’m really good and ready…so I’ll wait until the mood strikes.  Until then, here’s today’s work lunch.   Ensalada with Amy’s Bistro Burger, bell peppers, carrots, snap peas, and tomatoes.   Kyle had some friends over for a BBQ this weekend, so I swooped on the leftover grilled corn in the fridge to make my salad even more exciting.    Crunchy!  It was good… Read more >

Vital Vittles

This post is LONG overdue.  I’m coming clean.  As much as I adore Alvarado Street bread, I’ve been having a love affair with a local brand in Northern California, and every time I return home I’m reminded of my infidelity.  The farmer’s market near my dad’s work sells Vital Vittles and I can still recall the first day he brought them home way back when…   From my first soft doughy bite, I knew it was love.   Now my parents regularly stock them in the fridge (even though I like to think they are… Read more >
