Quinoa granola

So.  Effing.  Tasty. This was so much more simple than I thought it would be. I’m never buying granola again (yeah right), but still…I know what I like in my cereal so why wouldn’t I make it to my exact specifications?  Right? My favorite things: 1. Clusters – textural variety is the most important part of cereal, oats, granola…shoot any food! 2. Crunch – none of this raw muesli bullsh!t, I want toasty! 3. Dried fruit and nuts – not one or the other, both. 4. Ratios – I like it when there are even… Read more >

Work, Presidents, Costco

I was going to try and throw down a quick recap of this “holiday” weekend, but alas, my ramblings got the best of me…it may be picture dense, but it’s not so quick.  Saturday was the main event, if you will, but Friday was pretty sweet too.  Kyle and I made a Costco run – always dangerous when you’re a foodie living on a student budget. Key purchases worth noting… Almond Butter (this jar is the size of my head) Sabra hummus x3 including spinach artichoke and roasted pine nut flavors plus individual mini tubs… Read more >

Q-Teaser

Just wanted to let you know what is coming your way… Any guesses? I haven’t forgotten about my alphebruary challenge…I’m just behind in recipe sharing.  This “q” treat, however, is VERY worth the wait.  I know everyone was wondering how those weird letters were going to be – particularly q, w, x, and z.  But shockingly, these haven’t even been my biggest obstacles.  There are some surprisingly letters (i, o, u – for instance) with minimal food options.  Damn vowels aside, I knew from day one of this month’s adventure that my q dish was… Read more >

Dragged through the rain

Given my hormonal state, it should be fairly obvious that I was in no mood to go out on Saturday.  Especially once it started pouring in the afternoon.  But Kyle knows that sometimes he has to refuse my homebody requests and drag me out.  He usually knows best.    Wine! We decided to go visit a friend at his restaurant (I’ve mentioned him a few times before).  He is the general manager of North End Caffe, a small restaurant in Manhattan Beach.  If you happen to watch Food Network, you may have seen it featured… Read more >

Hello hormones

Sometimes the perfect storm occurs and a rainy day overlaps with that time of the month (TMI? sorry male readers…) and all I want to do is bake.  Chocolate, specifically.  Yes please! Recently Gabriela made a batch of double dark chocolate peanut butter cookies that I bookmarked for just this sort of occasion.  I modified the recipe a bit, as noted below. Double Chocolate PB Crunch Cookies (adapted from this recipe) Ingredients: 1 cup whole wheat flour 1/4 cup sucanat vegan cane sugar 1/4 tsp salt 3 tbsp special dark chocolate cocoa powder 1/2 cup… Read more >
