Pizza, pizza, pizza. Who am I?

November 11, 2009 · 25 comments

Lately I’ve been having such rando cravings, I feel like a preggo!  (Don’t worry Mom…)

I had frozen pizza just the other day, and yet, the following TWO days I had pizza as well.  Seriously.  Who am I?  This is pretty odd considering pizza is not exactly a food I would typically associate with strong feelings of lust.  Growing up, it was never a food I especially craved.  As fun as pizza parties were, discovering I was lactose intolerant at such a young age severed any chance of forming the quintessential bond that most kids form between the cheesy goodness.  So, why now?  What’s the deal?

No clue.  But, why fight it.

Pizza #1 was leftovers from the previous night’s Amy’s soy cheese pizza.  Not as good reheated because the crust just doesn’t have the same crispy outside and warm, fluffy, doughy inside that the oven made wonderful.

Pizza #2 on an english muffin with tomato paste, hummus, and LightLife’s Smart veggie crumbles.  Hummus is definitely a tastier alternative to cheese, not that I remember what cheese tastes like…

Pizza # THREE is a charm, two is not the same, I don’t see the harm basically the same as it’s predecessor, but on a pita and with nooch sprinkled on top.

1,2,3…They were all pretty awesome, but I think it’s safe to say I have now had enough pizza to last me until 2011.

Do you ever have cravings that seem really random for you?  Things you never thought you’d find yourself actually yearning for?

Anyways, I did have other non-pizza meals, too.  Such as this chimichurri seitan salad.

I love WF’s take on Candle’s seitan.  I need to figure out how to make it on my won because it is definitely my favorite prepared item at Whole Foods (aka where my entire pay check goes).

IMG_5477

Steamed sweet potato rounds + crunchy peanut butter chunks + sweetened dried cranberries = another successful dish.

IMG_5467

Crack-a-lackin’ while watching football.  These wheat thins squares went almost as fast as the hummus!

IMG_5472

This salad was thrown together in 7.26 seconds and I was shocked by how much I loved it.

IMG_5475

Minimal ingredients included spinach, spiralized zucchini, steamed sweet potatoes, and dried cranberries with a balsamic vinegar dressing.  I should always put potatoes in my salads, because I find myself singing their praise every time I use them as a central component in my salads.  One of these days I’ll catch on to the pattern.  As my grandpa says “even the monkeys learn.”

IMG_5457IMG_5453

As usual, I ended my days with a sweet note.  Fresh fruit is one thing, but soy ice cream is a completely different thing.  Add in some vegan chocolate chips and that scrumptious sundae is presenting a serious threat to my beloved dessert fruit bowls.

I’ve been craaaving pizza too! Haven’t indulged yet though… Um I love fruit, but I have a massive sweet tooth so ice cream trumps fruit. And yes WF takes a lot of my pay check too :/

Mmm, know you’ve got ME wanting pizza! I used to make pita pizzas all the time, but now I’m gluten free so I do (brown rice) tortilla pizzas, which is sortof of like pita pizza’s wimpy kid brother. I really want to get my hands on an Amy’s pizza – apparently they make one that is gluten free AND dairy free (for some reason all the soy cheese ones I’ve seen here in Canada have casein, lame!), but I have to say – have you tried the Amy’s roasted veggie cheeseless pizza? Something about the topping is insanely good, and I have eaten more than my fair share of them in the past! Pizzapizzapizza…… :) Eve

Love your pizza alternative ideas, especially as I always have tomato paste around, so I can use that if I don’t have sauce. Good idea!

That looks so good. I could go either way on the crans, but the PB + sweet pot sounds awesome.

Love the choc chips on the ice cream. I love frozen choc chips!

Right now I have the biggest craving for pizza too! Especially when my friends and I go out to eat and they all order pizza. Too bad every pizza place doesn’t have vegan cheese!

That last salad makes me drool.

I am not one to crave savory foods, but lately – it’s all I can think about when I wake up this morning. To be honest, I’m okay with the control of my sweet tooth diminishing lately…

I’m so happy I’m home now so I can drool over your delish combos – English muffin pizza? I’m so doing that tonight. Sweet potato/cran/PB? Genius. Is it weird/bad to have a craving for a beer? I had the WORST craving for one the other night that I insisted we skip the ethnic restaurants on our trip just so I could get my American Pale Ale fix.

The Amy’s roasted veggie cheeseless pizza is one of the best IMO. Haven’t tried the mock cheese one yet…

I always get random cravings and I normally just roll with it but sometimes it’s for something totally out of my element, like fried foods. I refuse to eat anything deep fried, I just won’t.

Well today is National Sundae Day so if you ever had an excuse to go balls out on the ice cream, now’s the time!

As for the pizza craving, I cannot identify with that being a rarity. More like constant. ;)

Your pizzas look AHmazing! I think I may try making one this weekend, but con queso and just take a lactaid pill…mmm pizza

Recently the cravings for tortilla chips with melted 4 cheese blend dipped in my homemade salsa has entered my life again. Serious midnight snackage fa sho! This might be my downfall during the cold (and by cold I mean upper 60s) winter nights in la la land. =)
