Pradeep’s on Montana

May 20, 2010 · 0 comments

There are several areas on the Westside that I adore, one of which is Montana Ave.  Since our friends live nearby, they took us to Pradeep’s.

I love Indian food!  (Side note: I just discovered that this place has nutritional information available online if you’re into that…for some reason that seems a bit bizarre for an Indian restaurant in my opinion…not sure why, but whatever).

We started with the “famous samosas” which were filled with vegetables, mint and tamarind chutney, and then fried to crispy perfection.

Yum.  Not heavy or greasy at all.  Simply delicious.

When dinner was ready, they brought out rice and salad to accompany the dishes we ordered…as well as our (double order of) naan

My dining companion was willing to do veg, so we got two dishes to share, while the boys got their meat on.

First up was Aloo Mattar (on the left), which is potato and green peas cooked with onion, tomatoes, ginger, garlic and curry spices in case you’ve got a V-card in the Indian food department.  We also got Saag Tofu (on the right), which is slowly cooked spinach with aromatic curry spices and fresh herbs.

Both dishes were fantastic – flavorful and complex – and I don’t think I could pick a favorite.  The only thing I would change was the level of spice.  In terms of tongue searing/eye watering/pore sweating, we ordered fairly benign dishes…and usually I like my food with a little more heat.  Next time…

The boys got Chicken Masala Curry (on the left), and Lamb Saag (on the right).

They were equally satisfied.

This was my first plate :)   Man can’t live on bread alone?  Hmmm…that’s debatable.  I could certainly live on naan alone.

Anyways, after dinner Kyle and I went back to Westwood (we are staying with a friend) and took an evening stroll to Le ‘Bucks for a night cap.

PS  Thanks for all the kind comments about our car issues.  It has since been resolved and we are now the proud owners of this beaut.  His name is Rolf (yes, I’m the obnoxious type that names my property).

PPS  We leave for Cabo today, so next time we “chat” I will be in Mexico.  Adios!

So glad the car thing got settled. Is that a Prius?

Love hearing about your new Cal adventures. I used to work on Montana, and this is a nice stroll down memory lane. I miss it every once in a while but never enough to go back. That was a very different life then.

Enjoy!

Its a Civic (2008 pre-owned). I wanted a Prius, but was surprised at how non existent our used options were….since we had to buy with cash and all…

Since you worked on Montana, any fave restaurants?

Nice to meet you, Rolf. I think car names are legit. My sister’s car is called Doris.

I LOVE Indian food but agree – I always feel a bit cheated if there isn’t some heat involved! You’ve got me craving naan!

Umm HAVE FUN in cabo. I am not jealous at all.

Great news about the car! Don’t know how I’d manage without ours now. I also love indian food but have yet to find a restaurant that doesn’t use loads of fat so that I always wake up tasting what i ate the night before, bleh. Anyways, safe journey to mexico (although you’re prob there already!).

Yummy Indian food is my all time favorite, I bet the reason why they have the nutritional info up is because it’s relatively healthy. At least you would hope so haha

I love Indian food, too! Alas, it seems to be the only thing I can’t eat while nursing my son. It really makes his tummy rumble. We’re planning another, so no curry for me for a while. I suppose I could go for the more bland dishes, but what’s the point in bland Indian food?

One of the best things about Indian food is that it’s so hearty and satisfying, even meat-eaters can go totally veg and not walk away hungry!

what a bummer :( even MORE incentive to wean i guess? although not if youre planning another i guess…congrats by the way!

I do not know how to order at an Indian restaurant! I hardly eat out and am afraid I’m not familiar with it all. looks like you are a pro!

24 elise May 26, 2010 at 11:27 am

not quite a pro – but i do love my some indian food :) its hard to go wrong with channa masala or veg curry dishes, and many times they have descriptions of what the dishes are. also, if you hit up the indian section at the WF hot bar, it can be an intro for you and then youll know exactly what you like when dining out!
