Day 10: Day trip to town

Due to poor weather conditions, we didn’t have much desire to venture away from our hotel in Uruguay.  However, we did make it into town one day.   We walked there (tricked into thinking it was just a stroll down the beach) and it was drizzling nearly the entire time.  But at least we got to see Punta Del Este’s main attraction. Hand in the sand. Our lunch selection was based on two things: (1) did they have seating inside? and (2) did they have coffee? And so we found ourselves at Boca Chica Express…. Read more >

Welcome to 5 stars

At first glance, the L’Auberge hotel looks rustic.  But once you tour the place, you start to notice it’s all a facade.    With satellite TV (not that I wanted to watch the Kardashians on vacation) and high tech gym equipment (in the tower’s top floor) and multiple places to lounge around outside while connected to the hotel’s (free) wi-fi…I’d say it was the perfect balance of old and new for a relaxing vacation.   Kyle and I went to the gym 4 of the 7 days we were there.  Not bad! We ordered… Read more >

Day trip to Colonia

For the first time on our vacation we had to set the alarm. By 7 am we were at the sea port, waiting to board the Buquebus for a quick day trip to Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay.  We went to buy tickets the previous day, but failed to remember our passports.  Dumb.  Obviously you need to know your passport number to buy tickets (duh, it’s a different country), but having just done the whole name change thing, I had a new passport and couldn’t even tell you the first digit.  Not that I ever memorized… Read more >
