“The thing about food is…”

Back to work already?!  Weekends go by too fast, but at least Monday meant the return of my K-love.

IMG_5638

You know the drill.  Fruit (dried and fresh), Clif bars (seasonal and Z), pretz, and tupperware filled “entrees.”

IMG_5636IMG_5637

I recently bought these spelt pretzels from WFs, and although I was nervous about straying from my Newman’s protein pretz, I like trying new things.

The verdict?  Good, but different.  I think I liked them, but sometimes (like when I’m starving at work) any carb will do.  I’ll have to try them again when I’m not running on an empty stomach so starving that I’ll eat dirt (and like it).

The rest of my work eats were not too different from my usual (hippie) suspects.

IMG_5639IMG_5640

The salad was very layered and it’s hard to see it all in the picture, so I’ll spell it out for you: spinach, BN squash, chickpeas, cherry toms, ‘shrooms, and raisins.  On the side I had a smudge of Sabra’s roasted red pepper hummus with some leftover cornbread paprika crusted tofu.  Obviously when lunch time rolled around this just ended up mixed in with the other salad.  It all goes the same place after all…

IMG_5641

Clif-a-licious bars.  Anyone know how long the seasonal flavors stay on the shelves?  I wanna make sure I stock up (I feel like a bear getting ready to go into hibernation).

IMG_5634IMG_5635

Can’t get enough of the Steaz!  This flavor was really good.  I think I checked four different times to see if there was visible pulp in it, THAT’S how much it tasted like fresh squeezed OJ.  It was weird.  It was almost like a mimosa (sans alcohol).  Yummy.

IMG_5502

For dinner I had a random salad with spinach, zucchini spirals, sweet potato circles, and dried cranz…topped with homemade balsamic miso dressing.

IMG_5504

Say what you will, but I’m pretty much convinced that everything goes with sweet potatoes.

IMG_5427

I also had a HUGE plate of quinoa topped with a vegan Boca burger and hummus

IMG_5428

I was extremely exhausted, but hadn’t seen Kyle since last Thursday, so I made myself a big(ger than I would have liked) dessert to help me stay up.

IMG_5445

Pita + PB + cinnamon looking like a hot mess.  This “presentation” proves (a) how tired I was and (b) how large and in charge that pita was.  It tasted great, but I was kinda uncomfortable full when I went to bed.  Meh.

Regret is a pointless emotion, so instead I’ll leave you with a great photo/quote:

From Julia Child’s kitchen exhibit at the Smithsonian.  I love it.

TROOF: “regret is a pointless emotion.” Gets you nowhere.

I have no idea about the seasonals! I still have to find em, which I’ hoping they’re everywhere in NYC.

You know, I do think everything goes with sweet potato. At one point, I dipped a cheetah into cranberry apple butter tonight. It was amazing. Your salad looks insanely good, though.

And to the above comment, I wouldn’t doubt the powers of sweet potato+ chocolate! Not for one second!

Awesome salads as per usual. I am SO asking for a spiralizer for Christmas.
I think the seasonal Clifs are around at least until mid-January.

Word up, Juls. I love that quote. I sometimes think about how–even though I give mi cuerpo allllll the food it yearns for, plus some–I still have my bitchy days. Makes me wonder what kind of biznatch I’d be if I didn’t “eat well and treasure my meals.” Prob wouldn’t be very bonita.

Anywho–I loved your ‘fu chillin in the smidge of Sabra. I feel like your version of a Sabra smidge is the same as mine–like a recommended serving or two? Because we all know a REAL sabra serving is 1/2-entire tub, depending on what kinda day you’re having.

I am at the ENDDDDDDD of my Newman’s protein pretz; I tried their spelt and they were good but not aaaaas good as the protein babies. I’ll keep you posted if I find anythang as good.

Your zuke noods look so fat! I always make my skinny but I like thin pasta. If I try to make them fat, they don’t get long, just chunky wedges kinda

This comment is so ripe with TWSS potential i will stop now :)

I love that quote so true if you don’t enjoy why eat?

I didn’t even make it through the basketball game before falling asleep. Thinking about a concert but concerned I won’t be able to stay up that late! LOL

I want to try those Steaz! I will have to keep an eye out…I have only seen the “normal” (i.e. calorie containing) ones. A mimosa?! Sounds good to me!

Welcome home Kyle :-)

Hummus with the tofu? Now we’re talking. You’re such a smart hippie! I should have picked up a SP while I was out – now I’m craving one like Brit and her Cheetos.

Glad you and your first K-Love are reunited :)

What a great quote! I’m dying to see that exhibit now. :)

Everything DOES go with sweet potatoes. I used to think not, since they’re well, sweet, but I’d say that’s exactly why they can go both ways!

I thought you’d like to know, I finally googled how to pronounce “quinoa” cuz Kristine corrected me several times in my pronounciation, but sometimes she can be, como se dice, wrong? haha…Alas, she was correct. Bleh. Happy eats mi rubia!
