What the Olympics taught me

1)  Canadians are super nice, welcoming, and very friendly.

(Kyle nearly had a heart attack as I took out my camera while we were passing the border patrol…whatever, I live on the edge…)

2)  Canadians are pretty die hard when it comes to ice hockey.

(These pictures are just the tip of the iceberg in fanatic behavior)

(The sea of red as we were waiting to get let into the stadium)

(Maple leaf much?)

3)  Vancouver has almost as many Starbucks’ as Manhattan (read: I was in caffeine heaven).

IMG_7449

(I’m fairly certain that my patriotic nails were a critical factor in team USA’s win)

4)  There is no feeling quite like pride for your country.

IMG_7473

5)  And yet, I really like fighting (when I’m not involved).

6)  It’s important to be humble and not rub in your team’s win, especially when surrounded by the losing team’s fans.

(Go USA!!!)

7)  Vancouver has some good vegan dining.

(Review and food pics to come)

8)  The Olympic torch is even more breath-taking in person.

9)  Les Canadiens parlent beaucoup de la langue française.  (??)

10)  I am kinda obsessed with Quatchi 🙂

(Awww…he’s so cute!!)

Quatchi is perhaps the cutest thing I have ever seen! We don’t get any TV channels so I am so out of the loop on everything Olympic. It’s a real bummer!

  2. Jenny

I really hope they start marketing Quatchi stuffed animals. I wannnnt.

  3. RawSierra

I so wish I lived where I could get awesome vegan/raw eats.

So awesome that you went! I was lame and did not watch a single game. LAME.

Is it Vancouver or Toronto that’s often used in movies to portray Manhattan (cheaper)? I think Vancouver.

I love that mascot, I just want to hug him! I heard on the news that that hockey game was the highest rated sports event in Canadian TV history. In the US? It was on MSNBC…’nuf said. GO USA!!!

  16. jenngirl

C’est vrai! Les Canadiens sont tres francaises!! 🙂

Hope you guys are having a good time!

Haha, it sounds like you learned a lot in Vancouver! Pretty impressed with your French skills, i must say! That restaurant looks like it was pretty bomb… I didn’t get a chance to eat what i wanted when i was in Vancouver because i was a little 17 year old on a big charter bus full o’ non-vegans. And the mascot is pretty sweet, i thought about buying a stuffed version for my valentine, and maybe one for myself as well… I won’t lie. Than i saw the price, and figured i needed food and gas that week more… lol Hope your weather in NYC is better than ours! Spoke to my sister yesterday who lives near Columbus Circle and she said you guys are expecting a big storm soon? It seems like everyone who moves to the east coast can’t wait to get back out west… I know that is true with me 🙂

Looks like you had an amazing time. Your pictures look great! I share your love for Canada; they are so friendly over there. I’d love to visit Vancouver again.

  19. ethel

I concur…I believe your nails were a GIANT contributing factor to the USA win.

p.s. I can picture Kile shaking his head as you took snapshots at the Canadian border…haha…

  20. samantha

so great. i want to head to vancouver so badly – it looks BEAUTIFUL. plus, skiing at whistler is uh-mah-zing (aka why the olympics are there, teehee).

is tomorrow today? i didn’t even look when you posted this…

i actually read in the newspaper that the reason usa won was because of a girl in the stands who had patriotic nailpolish on. i wish i knew it was you when i read it. 😉
