Cavity central

Our apartment is a dentist’s nightmare.

The only thing I brought back from Argentina was chocolate.  Chocolate bars, chocolate cookies, chocolate covered this and chocolate covered that.

IMG_4830

Cadbury makes so many products you can’t get here in the states, so I obviously had to bring home several to sample.  And since I fell in love with alfajor cookies, I brought a dozen or so of them back with me too.

IMG_4829

Needless to say, I have a few pounds of desserts to work through in 2012 and I’m very happy about it.

Add on top of that the treats my patient sent home with me…

IMG_4946

If there’s a store near you that sells Uncle Eddie’s vegan cookies, do yourself a favor and buy them.  You’ll love me and hate me for the recommendation.

IMG_4944

And then there are the treats Kyle brought back from his parents’ house…

IMG_4947

These are vanishing at an alarming pace (Kyle’s work, not mine).  Once upon a time there was an entire tray of them.  Serving sizes don’t exist with home-made goodies.  Especially when they contain Crisco.

It gets worse better…

IMG_4871

Holy Nestle basket!

IMG_4901

How long do you think it will take to polish off this entire stash?  No really.  I want guesses.

IMG_4899

Because I don’t think I’ve ever had this much candy in the house.  TWENTY BARS!?!  Crunch bars, Butterfingers, Baby Ruths, and 100 Grand bars, oh my!

IMG_4898

I didn’t even know Nestle made half these things!  Dark chocolate Raisinets? Wonka Exceptionals Fantabulous Fudge bar?  Chocolate Waterfall bar?  Skinny Cow Dreamy Clusters?

IMG_4716

On the healthier front, I had goodies from Lollihop.

IMG_4717

So many new snacks to try.  I haven’t even had my [real] Christmas yet, but this month’s box was above and beyond.  Lollihop really outdid themselves in December…I felt like I was opening a stocking!

  • NuGo Dark pretzels
  • 479 popcorn
  • Giddy Up & Go granola
  • Twin Cakes biscotti (yes!)
  • Good Health apple chips
  • Zing chocolate PB
  • 18 Rabbits cinnamon
  • RW Garcia
  • Teccino herbal coffee
  • Artisana nut butter
  • Bella Viva almonds

Pus a cute Lollihop tote bag!

But the icing on the cake was this gift from Larabar.

IMG_4801

New flavor alert!  Cappuccino!!!!

IMG_4892

With all these new sweets, I decided some organization was in order.  And by organization, I mean hiding these treats from myself.

The “pantry” has been in need of spring winter cleaning for quite some time anyway.

IMG_4891

I’m pretty Type A when it comes to keeping things tidy, so this is chaos at it’s extreme.

The problem is we don’t have a true pantry, so when I go grocery crazy or get samples shipped to me, we wind up storing snacks in our linen closet.

IMG_4893

See?  Horrible.

IMG_4895

As I started dumping everything on the counter I began finding things buried in the mess that I didn’t even remember I had!

IMG_3243

PureFit protein bars (vegan and gluten free).

IMG_4894

S’mores HALO ProBars

IMG_4896

This is a fraction of it all.  I think I need to stop shopping for bars.  Or enter myself for a hoarder show intervention.  Or go for monthly dental appointments.

How much chocolate do you keep in your house?  Candy?

Do you still have holiday treats?

When was the last time you organized your pantry?

Your post title is so fitting! Oh my, so many bars…

  2. Sarah @blueeyedbarbie.blogspot.com

I am a compulsive pantry/fridge/freezer organizer. I even do it to other peoples houses! It just habit i guess haha. So needless to say, my pantry is inanely organized.

Are all the chocolates and stuff you brought back from your trip vegan?

  3. Red Deception

I live in Canada, where we have some of the best chocolate (in my opinion). Since I don’t eat dairy anymore, it takes some effort to resist the temptation!

When I need a chocolate fix, I get my hands into chocolate Larabars. Mmmm… chocolate brownie Larabar….

  4. barb

I took all the treats back to my office, i don’t keep any chocolate at the house. I do bring healthy protein bars. What do you do with peanut flour? I clean the pantry several times a year to see what I already have and don’t have to buy

  5. Taya

Oh so jealous- not so much about the candy, but all the yummy nutritious bars! A lollipop subscription was on the Christmas list, but Santa didn’t deliver! Plus, I’m at a crazy financial low right now, so I’ve had to stop buying all the fun stuff I used to get! Your pantry = my paradise!

  6. ~Jessica~

If any of the vegan bars need a home, I would be more than willing to adopt them 😉

The candy in our house all belongs to my Dad, but I don’t buy it for myself or I would eat it all at once, no matter how large the amount. I do have lots of Nakd and Trek bars though, and a friend sent me some KIND bars which I love. I wish I could buy Larabars and PURE bars though!

    xxx

  7. Caity @ Moi Contre La Vie

I had Christmas cookies for breakfast today. Enough said.

  8. Katie @ Peace Love & Oats

oh gosh, that is a LOT of packaged goods! I never have very many because they’re just too expensive, plus I prefer fresh food over packaged. Although some of those bars are always so good!

  9. Ashley

There is a abundant amount of candy and junk food in my house always! Sad but true…I blame it on my siblings! (no really) they are the only ones that eat it..
We currently have about 4 bins full of candy, mostly from Christmas. I’m thinking candy cookies in the near future?!

  10. glidingcalm

    this post is awesome. LOL

I have always wanted to try the Pure Fit and Halo bars too

  11. Christine (The Raw Project)

Wow, not a good post to see nearing lunchtime! I try not to keep a lot of chocolate around, but sti have plenty of vegan chocolate and raw balls stashed in the freezer from the holidays.

  12. Ethel

My guess is, by the time ground hog day rolls around, you’ll be down to 2 bars left. If I win, can one of those two bars be Chunky? I really enjoy Chunky, but haven’t had on in years!!!

  13. Chels R.

Lord have mercy that’s a lot of chocolate! I love it! 🙂

Chocolate laying around in my apartment = dangerous.

  14. janetha

i didn’t like the new larabars. but i would love all that candy.. 🙂

  15. Gloria

Send some over my way! I’d be more than happy to help you eat them 🙂

  16. Jin

you’re fully stocked Elise! no worries of any natural disasters heading your way 😉
oooh that cappuccino larabar sounds really good. I love anything with coffee and chocolate in it!
I never buy bars… my snacks consist of fruit and mixed nuts.. I eat decent meals anyway so snacks are often unnecessary!

One thing I know is that if something is in the house, I eat it. Probably that’s why I never buy candy or chips.. I don’t crave it often to buy it anyway! But I do keep dark chocolate around all the time.

Are Halo bars good? I ‘ve seen them around but never tried them. Why are healthy bars so dang expensive though!? 🙁

  17. Tasha @ Dine n Dash

Right now I have about every dark chocolate flavor of Green&Black’s bars, staring at me. Plus Vosges Gingerbread Toffee Dark, very dangerous.

I have no holiday treats left, but last night I got the urge to make vegan peanut butter fudge. oops.

  18. Laura

Ditto on the holiday finds- my favourite being chocolate covered oreos in Barcelona?!!
I live in Bournville, Birmingham (UK)… home of Cadburys. WHY have I never toured the plant?! (Really pretty by the way, the founders were Quakers and built a ‘model’ village around the factory). On the plus side, the shops nearby thus have many wonderful, disparate types of Cadburys chocolate that I haven’t encountered before. Some of my patients used to work there- one I cared for used to work on quality control and product development (aka taste tester). Ahhhh the envy. Surprisingly, though, they didn’t have CVD. Me, I’m looking forward to the Eastery mini eggs that begin appearing on the shelves 1/1.

  19. Jamie @ Don't Forget the Cinnamon

What are those bars with the chocolate on top? They look awesome!!
And I still have a HUGE tin of christmas cookies leftover…I went a bit crazy this year….

  20. Jes Suazo

Oh wow. That’s a lot to choose from!

I say it takes a year for your to make it through the candy.

With a four year old in the house, I keep the candy to a bare minimum. [Of course I make it sound like it’s for the little man’s sake, but really it’s for the sake of my waistline] 🙂

  21. Hillary [Nutrition Nut on the Run]

can not wait to try the cappuccino flavor!!

i always have (dark) chocolate in my house, always 🙂

  22. Sherry

Have you tried the PureFit bars? I’ve seen them but haven’t tried them myself, so I was just wondering if they were any good. I organize my pantry every week when I grocery shop. My pantry ends up bare by the end of the week because I have a husband and 4 kids so they plow through food like it’s their job. We have a few little holiday cookies left but that’s it. Goodies don’t stand a chance against my cookie monsters.

  23. Elise (Post author)

i havent tried them yet, but ill be sure to share my review once i do.

  24. Elise (Post author)

haha. i know what you mean though. its insane to have this much “junk” around!

  25. Elise (Post author)

they are cadbury bars with raisins (from buenos aires)…its good to go a bit crazy this time of year i think.

  26. Elise (Post author)

omg, you NEED to tour that place!!
i swear we already have easter stuff here. not really, but i did see valentines stuff on december 27th.

  27. Elise (Post author)

whoaaaaaaaaaa…that vosges stuff just made my mouth water. i better get some asap

  28. Elise (Post author)

i like the halo bars but they are smaller so they dont have too much staying power. good as snacks i think. bars are so obnoxiously pricey!

  29. Elise (Post author)

    good call!! candy cookies, mmmmm

  30. Elise (Post author)

i mostly use it as an ingredient in sauces. sometimes i add it to oats or other baked goods in the place of part of the flour, but its different from normal grain flour so its not able to be totally substituted.

  31. Elise (Post author)

nope. some are, but most are milk chocolate (not dark chocolate) with dairy.

  32. Jane

I often feel so guilty cause i love chocolate…especially Lindt… I eat it every day (usually 1-2 ounces)…oye 🙁 I feel like no one else eats “junk” on blogs..kinda bugs me 🙁

  33. Elise (Post author)

i think lindt is far from junk…mmm…a daily dose of chocolate is perfect. keeps your sweet tooth happy so you dont binge after deprivation!

  34. Jane

Thanks…but I’m not vegetarian either…I eat whole foods…but still overdo the dairy and stuff…oops.

It’s hard cause I need to gain weight. I’m 30 years old and have lost some due to stress, anxiety, some ibs-issues and some past “orthorexic” tendencies…
so I need to gain about 15 lbs…

I don’t exercise anymore (other than walk) and sit all the time…so i feel guilty for eating a lot + eating “unclean” foods…i don’t even know how much i need to really take in (can’t afford a dietitian and disiked the ones i had in past…i don’t live in a good place). I assume I need to take in 2000-2500 but then i feel guilty for that cause all i do is sit + i’m only 5 feet 1.5 , plus i’m 30 (old and wrecked metabolism). I just want to gain and get it over with..but i don’t want to gain “all wrong” or too fast or “swing the other way” and end up too big and never able to stop.

Like last night I had a “binge” on some foods and ate a TREMENDOUS amount of calories after 11 pm…now I still woke up with a lousy, full stomach and choked down a big breakfast..ugh…I’m lost I guess.

    I like your blog…i admire you !!

  35. Sina

Ahem, I think you need to ship some of these vegan bars to me.

Do you eat the Cadbury milk chocolates, too, or are these for Kyle? If yes, he has lots of (yummy) work to do, I guess ;).
