Chef Tanya’s nachos

Way too much food for four people.

For no reason, a group of us went to Native Foods for dinner the other night.

I’ve been to the Palm Springs, Costa Mesa, and Westwood locations, but not the Culver City one.

I forced myself to try something new, which was hard since I love the scorpion burger and kale macro bowl a lot.

Kyle and I ordered the Nuevo Native Nachos to split…which was a blessing and a curse.

O.M.F.G.HIJKLMNOP…

Fantastic.  If you go to Native Foods, I command you to order these.  I don’t know how I will ever force myself to try another Chef Tanya creation now that I know what these nachos taste like.

I made the mistake (or awesome decision?) to dominate the chips and cheese and guac while Kyle was distracted with his main course.

Which meant he was too full for the nachos, but I was too full for my Yo Amigo Taco Salad.

I took the entire thing home.

Kyle got the Oklahoma Bacon Cheeseburger.

Ethel got the Scorpion Burger.

Alene got the Sesame Kale Macro Bowl.

And we all had leftovers.  Happy dinner outing.

    Now I have a hankering for Mexican food….at 7 am 😉

That looks amazing… I’m so jealous that you have so many healthy dining excursions. I need to do a better job of dragging my friends to veggie-friendly restaurants, I feel like I’m always perusing the measly salad part of the menu whenever I go out…

I went to a Native Foods here in Chicago with some friends and everything looked SO GOOD! I just had quite a difficult time ordering since I can’t have soy or gluten! Haha I guess it’s just not for me! Although if I go back there was a quinoa bowl that I wish I’d ordered!

  4. Nikki

Oh my goodness! I have been craving nachos for like a week now…this just legitimately made me drool!

I am obsessed with Native Foods, ever since moving to Chicago. It’s one of my top 5 fav restaurants, and that’s saying a lot since I’, picky! 🙂 I’ve had those nachos. They are like nothing else ever. Also, have you had the peanut butter parfait? My bf is obsessed.

I embarrassed to admit how much I go to Native Foods since it opened here on the north side of Chicago. BUT I’ve never had the nachos (my usual picks are the kale macro bowl or Soul Bowl.) Can’t wait to get there this weekend and try them!

  7. Katherine

Oh baby that all looks delicious! I just made healthy nachos for lunch with black beans, cheddar, spanish rice, avocado and salsa verde on top of a huge pile of mixed greens- so delicious and satisfying!

I’ve only been to the Culver City location, but I love it! I haven’t tried the nachos. I am always torn between the Twister wrap and the Yo Amigo. I need to sample the Scorpion Burger.

  9. Katie

Sesame and kale is one of my favorite combos EVER. I want 29 of those bowls.

  10. Tierney @ Get Your Veg On

I miss Native Foods so much! I used to eat there all the time when I lived in SoCal (OK Bacon Cheeseburger, Pozole soup and Gyro bowl were my favs). On my last visit to LA, I tried the new Chicago Dip Au Jus sandwich and fell in love. You’d think they would open up a location in the Bay Area…we need a place like this!

I was reading one of your other posts where you said “Chai Tea” and someone called you out on it. I thought it was strange how you didn’t even address it. It is not like he/she was trying to offend you, but you didn’t even correct your mistake.

    Weird.

chai tea? i dont know which comment youre referring to…or which post. if you can be more specific maybe i can clear it up?

  13. lynn @ the actor's diet

been too long since i’ve gone. note to self: nachos.

  14. Emily

Okay. How is it that I’ve lived in LA for over two years and have never been to Native Foods?! I think I just died looking at these pictures. Everything looks SO amazing.
And I would have done the exact same thing with those nachos. Hey, you only live once!

  15. ethel

Wanted to ask, did the black beans on the nachos bother you? I was unable to deduce if it was the Parmesan Garlic Pita Chips from TJ’s that I had with A at the doctor’s that bothered my stomach, or if it was the black beans. Not sure. I want to go with the former because my tum tum wasn’t the best once we finally met you at Native.

  16. Elise (Post author)

black beans didnt bother me. of course im immensely sick right now so im not noticing any GI things really…my head…so bad…

  17. Elise (Post author)

omg, get to a native foods stat! thats an order!

  18. Elise (Post author)

i agree…its odd that there isnt one up north yet…maybe chef tanya needs some fan mail from the bay area…

  19. Elise (Post author)

i almost got that for dessert, but didnt. next time.

  20. Tierney

I tweeted them about a year ago and got a “stay tuned!” reply. I guess for now I will have to live vicariously through posts and get my fix on occasional SoCal visits!
