Lei making and cultures

I was so grumpy this morning and then I finally got some food in me and voila!  Hangry Elise went back into her cave.

The kids’ menu at the Marriott’s poolside restaurant is much cheaper than the regular menu (which is still fine but look at the portion – definitely no need to get an adult plate).  Plus, no extra charge for the GF bread!

Lei making was one of the few activities that the hotel makes you sign up for in advance.  Probably because it’s so popular.  We had fun!

After that it was off to the pool for the “treasure hunt”.  They won water guns as prizes and since they live in a bit of a bubble they have no idea what they are.  P kept calling his a squirter and using it to water the plants.  🙂

And now they have mysteriously vanished.  Must have gotten lost on the way home 😉

I got this Hoaloha salad the night before at Aloha Mixed Plate (I got it to go when we were ready to leave because I was eyeing it and thought it would be a great lunch option).

It has Wailpoli mixed greens, kabocha pumpkin, long beans, tomato, cucumber, almonds, split peas, sunflower seeds and the house vinaigrette.

Since it’s me, I added avocado and (HONEY ROASTED!!) mac nuts.

The nuts were as awesome as you’ expect.  The salad was fine but nothing special.  I was really hoping for the Hawaiian version of my beloved vegan Winter salad when I saw kabocha squash in the ingredients list but it was kinda blandly steamed and there were only a few pieces.  But it was good enough and I always like trying new salads, even if I have to doctor them up quite a bit myself.

I’m not sure if it was the salad or just my IBS but that afternoon was a DOOZY.  I will spare you the details but I knew the second I finished my lunch something was off.  Traveling is always a gamble when you have GI issues, because you want to live a little and enjoy the treats of wherever you are…but at the same time, changes are something my body doesn’t take kindly to, so it’s a tricky balance.  Thankfully, Maui is a pretty easy place to assimilate my gut to, what with the constant acai bowls and kombucha at the ready.

We switched things up and went to the hotel’s playground that afternoon.

And then drove over to pick up teppanyaki 2 go for the second time around.  Basically the same order as last time.

I had another winter edition GT’s kombucha that night in attempt to get mega cultures back into my gut.
