Monday & Macaroons

Kyle and I celebrated our Valentine’s Day early.  We just used the holiday as an excuse to hit up a restaurant that’s been on our mind for a while.

Akasha is one of those places that has a menu for true foodies.  It’s based around fresh, seasonal, and local ingredients – with vegetable quinoa listed next to Niman Ranch beef burgers.  I love a diverse menu packed with yummy quality ingredients.

Ok, before I get ahead of myself, I have to show you what my poor husband has to deal with on a daily basis.

What a scrub!  :P  Blah.  Those sweat pants are hand-me-downs-ups from my little sister.  From, like, five years ago.  Maybe more.  If anyone wants to submit me to What Not To Wear, I won’t be offended you wouldn’t be the first.

I pulled it together.  Ish.  It’s way easier for me to embrace my curls than spend an extra 30 minutes straightening it.

So I added heels to the outfit.  It’s a cheaters way to make me look fancy.

PS I can’t walk in them.

Anyway.  Back to the food.

Like I said, Akasha has been on our hit list for a while.  So naturally I had already (over) analyzed the menu before we even arrived.

But then they had a special Meatless Monday menu that really threw a wrench in my plans.

In the end, Kyle and I decided to order a few small plates, a few sides, and a main course to share. [Sorry in advance for the low quality iPhone photos]

Small plates.

CHITARRA CUT PASTA with kabocha squash puree, kale, wild mushrooms, & parmesan (on the side).  <— My favorite dish of the night.

KALE SALAD with pistachios, midnight moon sheep cheese, & meyer lemon vinaigrette.

QUINOA with market vegetables and tamari grilled tofu

I can’t decide which was better, the quinoa or the tofu.  Winner.

SKILLET MACARONI & CHEESE with gruyere & cheddar, & toasted bread crumbs.  <— Kyle’s favorite dish of the night.

photo-3

CURRIED CAULIFLOWER with greek yogurt mint raita.  <— We only had a few bites of this and took the rest home for later.  I’ll show you what I did with the leftovers later.

Kiss cupcakes 🙂

But we had our real dessert waiting at home.

Chocolate coconut macaroons.

Kyle saw some in Whole Foods last week and begged me to make some.  I do what I can…

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Do you remember your first date ever?  Tell me about it!

On my first real date with Kyle he took me to a movie (that I wanted to see), but he made a pretty huge error and didn’t look into the plot of the movie.  We saw In The Cut.  If you’ve seen the movie you know why it was a semi-uncomfortable situation.

Your Valentine’s Day dinner looks delicious! 🙂 I love your heels too!

My first date with my fiance was to Fridays restaurant and then we went back to his apartment and watched a movie. I was so incredibly nervous!

For our first date 7 years ago, my boyfriend took me out to breakfast to his favorite diner. We live in a hippie town that caters well to vegans, so I didn’t think of mentioning dietary restrictions–BUT there was not a single vegan item on the menu! Starving and not wanting to be difficult, I ordered an omelet. I ate a few bites and spent the rest of the day puking. He still teases me about trying to impress him by eating eggs :-S

my first date with my last boyfriend was the zoo (i learned that he knew a lot about animals!) and then we went to dinner for burgers and beers. it was a good first date and a great memory 🙂

Love your hair curly and those heels are amazing, but I too would not be able to walk in them. That food looks delicious and am thinking about ways to create that kabocha (my favorite squash) pasta at home. Google here is come……

I love this! I’m super indecisive so it looks like fun to order a bunch of items off the menu!

Embrace the curly hair! It’s cute on ya. 🙂

My first date ever was with my first boyfriend in the 8th grade. We walked around a mall. It was so romantic. My first date with my fiance was to a play a friend of ours was in. We knew we liked each other but weren’t ready to be dating exactly, so it was super awkward. He spent the whole thing not making eye contact with me, and at the end, he practically sped away before I had time to get out of the car. Ha. I tease him about it now.

I could never walk in those heels. Kudos to you for pulling it off!

I don’t think I really remember my first date. It was probably seeing a movie in early high school and being driven by parents. The first date in my current relationship was rock climbing (my first time!) and it was a blast. A tasty vegan dinner afterwards of course (it’s always about the food)!

Hahahaha….I know exactly the film you mean, and can only imagine the awkwardness, lol! 😛 You looked lovely when you were spruced up! And dude, my hair is as crazy as yours – fear not, you’re not alone, lol! 😉 Love the heels. And that quinoa dish. Oh, and the macaroons. So much to love! 🙂
Hmmm…my first date with Tom? It’s hard to say when that was because he was my dad’s friend’s son, who randomly came round to visit, and we hit it off- so I would say we spent our first date hanging out at my parents?! Or the week after, when we went out for dinner and dancing. yep, that was probably it, lol! 🙂 happy memories! <3 xyx

I love your hair curly 🙂 I’m always too lazy to do much with my hair- it’s either tied back or curly.
