The most ill

It’s been 4 days since I turned on the computer.

And almost just as long since I slept through the night.

Guys, it’s been a rough week for me.

Remember last weekend when I mentioned the onset of a cold coming?  Well, my stubborn refusal to call in sick backfired in a HUGE way.

I was worthless all Monday and Tuesday…I did get to see the Hunger Games, but otherwise I rested and ate and rested all day long.

Wednesday and Thursday were even worse and I had to call in sick for both days.  Throat, head, nose, so much pain, so much pressure.  I’ll spare the details, but I was MIS.ER.A.BLE.  Also Kyle was out of town so I was on bedrest by myself.  Not fun.

Friday was looking up, until my eye and ear started to add their own symptoms.  Then I took Vicodin on an empty stomach and all hell broke loose.  Nausea and vomiting don’t help a sore throat and headache.  Lesson learned.

Saturday I went to urgent care and the MD sent me home with this trifecta.

Plus a note saying not to return to work until next weekend.

So there you have it.  Unless you want your cold to blow up into a sinus infection and ear infection, you should probably just listen to your body and call in sick the first day you think you’re too sick to work.

What’s been odd is how fine my GI tract has been throughout this illness.  Aside from Saturday’s 7 am puke session and subsequent dry heaving, I have had minimal digestive issues.  Maybe my IBS decided to take a time-out because bigger things were at play?  Although I haven’t gone to the bathroom since Monday…

So yeah.  I’ll show my soup-er awesome eats later.  Hey!  A sense of humor!

Warning #1: there was a lot of soup.

Warning #2: my appetite has been piss poor.

It’s odd (but not really) that expending zero energy can zap my hunger to nil.

But seriously, these days were really agonizing for me.  I was in so much pain that I just wanted to keep my head still.  But at the same time I was soooo bored.  The TV and computer hurt my head more, which left me to hallucinate conversations with myself to pass the time.  Let me tell you, this can leave you in a pretty weird state of mind.

Sometimes the day flew by, and sometimes it dragged and dragged.  And dragged.

Anyway, just wanted to check in and say that’s what’s up.

my goodness, Elise, I hope for your speedy recovery! It sucks being sick. Really does. But it’s your body’s way of telling you that you probably need the rest. Nurses can overlook their own relaxation time sometimes!!!

Keep downin’ that soup-er soup and water!! hydrate hydrate! 🙂

    Get well soon.

So sorry that you have been so sick! Those of us who are helpers – nurses, teachers (me), mothers (me), etc. – often keep pushing through illness because we have to be there for others. It is so hard to learn the lesson that we have to take care of ourselves first or we will be useless to others! Rest up and feel better fast!

Oh my goodness- I’m so sorry that you’ve felt so awful! I always end up pushing myself when sicknesses are coming on and it ALWAYS backfires. I guess that’s what we get for being stubborn?
I hope that Kyle is back now to take care of you. Being sick and alone is the absolute worst.
    Feel better! <3

Hi Elise – I love reading your blog and I’ve been a follower for a little over a year now. I just had to comment on this post because you caught a nasty bug that’s been going around for awhile. I had the same cold in February – it lasted for 4 weeks!!! I was on the same medication you were (plus a few extras because I, too, waited too long to go into the doctor). And, as for you not using the bathroom – it could be the cough medicine – at least I had the same problem and the 2nd time I went to the doctor for this cold, he said the cough medicine was the culprit.

Take care and feel better soon!!! xoxo
