Windy Thursday

Evidently Los Angeles kiddos are getting their version of a snow day today.  Last night I was tweeting about the crazy winds, so it’s not surprising.  A lot of people lost power in Pasadena and downtown LA too apparently, including Ethel who got to go home from work early.  I’m actually a bit jealous (of the kids, not the people who lost power) since I don’t get days off for weather or holidays (or anything).  Pity party over.  I’m going to Argentina in 6 days.

This pumpkin banana smoothie dropped my body core temp about 5 degrees but it was totally worth it.

1 frozen banana, 1/3 can pumpkin, 1/2 cup USV almond milk, 1 tsp cinnamon

Fall in a cup with floral side.

To warm up, I had a savory bowl of steel cut oats with tempeh.

I’m really loving Lightlife’s fakin bacon.  I almost never choose savory breakfasts over sweet ones, but this tempeh is something else!

I had leftovers for lunch so I’m opting out of posting the photos.

I had eggnog bread as a post-run snack, too.  That’s also old news by now.

And for dinner Kyle and I went to Rustic Canyon.  It’s right around the corner from our apartment and yet, we’ve never eaten there (only done drinks).

It was a fabulous night – food and company included.  [review to come]

Have you ever gotten a day off due to weather?  Snow day?  Tornado warning?

I don’t run on treadmills; I brave the elements and boy, it was WINDY in San Diego, too, the past few days. Good thing I’m getting outta here…tomorrow and the wind will be more of a warm breeze 🙂

That smoothie looks well worth the temp core drop. lol

As a teacher (at children’s museums and with homeschooling families) I get snow days sometimes — I make them mandatory yoga and baking days. There’s something so satisfying about staying home in your pajamas and making cookies or scones.
Can’t wait to hear about Argentina! I’ve always wanted to go.

Why do you think I became a teacher? Joking.. kind of.

Seriously, I live for snow days – just like the commenter above, I usually get up and start getting ready only to get the phone call that we don’t have school. Instead of going back to sleep, I always workout in my living room, bake until I’m blue in the face, and take a long nap later. They’re glorious.

I’m with ya. As a so cal girl snow days are foreign to me. When I went to undergrad in the San Fernando valley, we had days off due to the brush fires. but that was just scary!

and after seeing your savory oats, I think I’ll try finally try tempeh!

Oh you and I could complain about work schedules and lack of days off forever:)
And I’ve never put tempeh in oats, but I want to now! Savory oats can be so good and I LOVE raw tempeh.

I’ve had LOTS of days off due to snow and ice here in Missouri, but even though we live in tornado alley no one gets school off because of imminent tornadoes. Most happen in the evening and they are too hard to predict.

I took the day off work because I had slept maybe literally a few minutes the whole night. The wind was INSANE. Most of the streets were filled with trees (sad!) so I stayed home and cleaned up. There was so much destruction it looks as if King Kong has visited.

Yummy smoothie! We had a real snow day here in Michigan on Wednesday. I’m a teacher, the day off was glorious! 🙂

I grew up in Western NY, so I’m no stranger to snow days, but we’ve also had days off because it was too windy or cold. When I was in high school we had such a crazy snowstorm one October that school was cancelled for a week!

a week! does the summer get cut into then with the extra days? what happens to those lost days?

  17. Kaitlyn@TheTieDyeFiles

I’m a student, but my school is on campus with a hospital so no weather days for me. No winter or summer breaks either 🙁

  18. Caroline

I think they just added days here and there, a slightly shorter Spring Break, fewer half days, etc.

  19. BroccoliHut

Yum, yum. Pumpkin-banana smoothies are one of my favorite ways to use up leftover pumpkin 🙂

The weather here has been nuts. Im in AZ, and actually had to scrape ice off my windows this morning to see out of my car. Its kind of a nice change though!
