About Elise
I’m a nurse. An exercise lover. A whole foods connoisseur. A health enthusiast. And I have IBS. No need to cue the sappy violin music yet...
I’ve found that eating a mostly plant-based diet has allowed me to continue to live and love life to the fullest. Although moderation isn’t something I do well, I’m 100% devoted to giving my body pure, wholesome, quality food. Nutritious and delicious, all the time.
Hungry Hungry Hippie is a way for me to share my daily dealings with food, fitness, and everything in between.
Weekend by iPhone. Ready, go! Saturday I had an open faced breakfast sando with avocado and two fried eggs. Then Kyle’s parents came over and we went to Hollywood. We had tickets to see Jerry Seinfeld do stand-up at the Pantages theatre. So excited!! We parked at Hollywood & Highlands and walked to get an early dinner at Tender Greens. It wasn’t [yet] rainy, but it was cold and windy, so I was definitely ready for something warm. Tea 🙂 I got the Happy Vegan (as per usual) with a side of roasted brussels,… Read more >

I was working. And eating. Here’s three shifts-worth of food. Tuesday night: spinach, carrots, quinoa and eggs (topped in Bragg’s and nooch) baby carrots tamari roasted almonds Udi’s bread with Artisana cashew-tahini butter Kettle Pop organic kettle corn Not much to say here. It tasted like kettle corn. Duh. Wednesday night: brown rice, spinach, and Sunshine veggie burger (original) baby carrots Inka Chips sweet plantain chips So good! Even though the whole bag is considered 3 servings (which I obviously ignored and treated as a single serving), the nutritional info is still not bad…. Read more >

If there are typos in this post it’s because I’m running on 1/8th a tank. I just worked three night shifts in a row (not pretty) and now I’m attempting to write and bake a new gluten free bread following no recipe. We will see how this post turns out soon enough, but I’ll have to wait ‘til tomorrow to see how the bread tastes. In the meantime, I’m going to attempt to make a savory oat believer out of the 50% of you who still refuse to give it a shot. C’mon, doesn’t… Read more >

ADD post coming your way! Home-made maple glazed nuts and tortilla chips have been on repeat in the hippie household. Our oven is eventually going to need to be tested on something more substantial than snack food. I’ve been eating breakfast for every meal. Oats for dinner. Granola for lunch. Pancakes for breakfast. Repeat. It’s probably because I’m on night shifts this week so my body doesn’t know morning from evening. Yes, that’s a new granola recipe. Wait for it. This new flavor of Zevia (strawberry!!) gave me such bad GERD I… Read more >

At the end of the day I want simple but delicious. Fresh fare is my preference, but sometimes it’s not in the cards. Enter: the freezer. There are a lot of negative associations with frozen food, but done right they can be your best friend. Leftovers – any time you make a lasagnas or casseroles, make WAY more than you will eat and portion the extras into tupperware. By freezing 2/3 of the dish from the get-go you preserve the freshness of the dish and guarantee yourself a future home cooked meal. Baked goods –… Read more >
