About Elise
I’m a nurse. An exercise lover. A whole foods connoisseur. A health enthusiast. And I have IBS. No need to cue the sappy violin music yet...
I’ve found that eating a mostly plant-based diet has allowed me to continue to live and love life to the fullest. Although moderation isn’t something I do well, I’m 100% devoted to giving my body pure, wholesome, quality food. Nutritious and delicious, all the time.
Hungry Hungry Hippie is a way for me to share my daily dealings with food, fitness, and everything in between.
Looks like I brought the sunny CA weather back East with me, huh? Let’s hope it lasts. My camera died mid-lunch prep, so only 75% of my pre-packed eats are shown below. Ellie’s presents came in handy with my lunch prep. First up, the Tokyo Seaweed Salad, which I chose because I had extra Arame seaweed to use from yesterday’s lunch. I mixed the rest of the arame (on the left) with half the Tokyo Seaweed salad and added it to a fistful of spinach. I added raisins after the photo because it looked too… Read more >

I can hardly keep my eyes open. Red-eye flights kinda suck, huh. But I guess all flights kinda suck. No matta, I’m back in the NYCizzle. I miss home already, but look at all the goodies I came home to!!! Let birthday week begin!! The first package was full of Averie’s raw vegan macaroons and donut holes, which smelled SO dang heavenly, I waited all of 5 seconds before digging into them. Oh, wow. I’m pretty jealous of her taste tester daughter – someone get this girl her own bakery. The macaroons were coconutty and… Read more >

Seriously, I hope I’m not boring you all, but this trip home was so epic, that even the Cliff’s notes version is miles long… I guess I will continue from where I left off (Saturday PM). Since the Nike half marathon started at 7 am (and I had no desire to commute into the city before that ungodly hour) I stayed at my sister’s apartment the night before. At least something positive came out of last month’s half marathon pre-race disaster (i.e. 4 am wake up calls are NOT conducive to a happy hippie). Spooning… Read more >

Well, I’m going to. My trip home has been amazing. I have been lucky enough to spend time with my ENTIRE family, as well as try on wedding dresses, run a half marathon, and enjoy some pretty awesome meals, too!! This is the best of the very best, in recap form. On Thursday, we went for lunch at our wedding venue. Dad’s Dungeness Crab Melt with chunks of Dungeness crab topped with fresh tomato, avocado and melted dill havarti cheese on an English muffin. Mom’s Gale Ranch salad with organic mixed greens, Fuji apples, Brie… Read more >

Being a hippie I hate to admit to loving something as corporate as Nike. But seriously, sometimes I see the Nike logo, and can’t help but tingle all over, especially when it is race weekend and the message is female empowerment. [run like a girl photo] Makes my heart go pitter patter. On Friday I went into the city for some fun (to pick up my race day packet, bib number, and get some pampering). Hello, freebies!!! Smoothies, manicures, pedicures, massages, not to mention the samples from Kashi, Luna, Safeway, Ghirardelli, Say Yes to Carrots,… Read more >
