Country Clubs

My parents belong to a Country Club.  You can roll your eyes.  They are still hippies…they just like golfing too.  And composting.

Anyway.  My dad’s on the Board of Directors and he’s been slowly pushing my vegan agenda.

Look!  Progress!!

He asked for a veg meal and got a lima bean tofu chili.  I’m so proud. :)

To me, the Country Club scene is where preppy white people go to compare Rolex watches and Sperry Topsiders.  And eat fancy food, like oysters, filet mignon, and foie gras.

So tofu chili!?!  Now we are making big strides!  🙂

Awesome! When I think of country clubs I always think of “Happy Gilmore”… and bad golf clothes 🙂

That is so incredibly awesome!! I always have to let go of my veg*n desires when I eat out with my family. Go you!

Haha no worries, I practically grew up at a country club. My parents belong to one only a mile from our house that we could easily bike to, and every summer was spent playing tennis, golfing, swim team, and of course just partaking in general shenanigans around the place while trying not to get into trouble… Haha fond memories. But kudos to your dad! I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen tofu on our menu, although I haven’t been there much in the past few years!

My brother is an executive chef at a country club. He gets paid more working there than in a restaurant, he was able to switch the CC over to all local and organic vendors, and he gets to change the menu every day. He loves it, and I wish I could afford it!

That is awesome!! Im sure the fact his is on the board gave this suggestion more “weight” but its these small changes that add up to more options and perpetuating what i refer to as vegan outreach. Who knows maybe this will push the chef to have more regular vegan items on a daily menu too!
