Eating out in December

Not to keep rehashing things from 2019, but I have a backlog of pics and I FINALLY got my blog back in working order. I’m not tech savvy so it’s a miracle things don’t go haywire more frequently, but ugh. It can get SO DARN complicated. Don’t get me started.

Fa la la la lattes!

I can’t place mobile orders because there’s no way to select “decaf” for a misto (a flaw I’ve written to Starbucks about MULTIPLE times), but I loved this scene at my parent’s store and just HAD to snap a pic. This was from 8 am, the day after Christmas. AKA the morning after everyone has slept terribly at their family’s casa and needs caffeine to recharge them for the trip home asap.

This photo is also from a visit to my home-town (the weekend before Christmas), during which my parents took the kids to see Frog & Toad in Berkeley and Kyle and I got to go out for a dinner date.

We were feeling majorly lazy, though, so we just went to Roam Burger down the street.

I got the seasonal salad (meh) and the fried Brussels sprouts with a skewer of beef burgers. The Brussels sprouts were THE BEST preparation of Brussels I have ever had. No exaggeration. The sesame oil and chili seasoning was so good – a perfect balance of spicy and sweet with some acidity from the rice vinegar. It blew me away.

So many Friday feels!!!

I wish I had more pics from Kyle’s work holiday party, but once it was all set up I put my phone away. It was a blast!

Kyle did all the prep for it, all I did was help set things up once we arrived.

And since it was on the kids’ last day of school before break, it felt like such a celebration.

These were pretty good!

We had a table for kids to do some crafting – but P just wanted to play basketball on the hoop outside.

V ate at the conference table, like a boss. The first of many board meetings I’m sure she will lead.

Seeing Frozen 2 was a such a hit…that we went back AGAIN. I find it amusing that this was their first movie theatre experience – something Mr. P has waited seven long years to do – and then we wound up going twice within the month! But Kyle was out of town the first time and we simply couldn’t go on having him in the dark about a subject that occupied 75% of our conversation. Now we can finally laugh about Samantha and scream into the unknownnnnnnn en voz alta. Not that we weren’t doing that before, but now he understands the back story.

Seriously. Obsessed.

The photo quality of this is terrible, but how often do you get to cruise around the fab 40s in downtown Sac on a booze bike with a dozen of your favorite peeps???? Gotta document our heinous outfits as well!

We went out to OBO after with the entire fit4mom coaching team (plus husbands) and it was so fun. OBO always has things I want and this time I could hardly narrow down my order to two dishes. I got both the porchetta (rolled pork belly with jus) and the roasted delicata and brussels sprouts salad. The salad was heavenly! And that is saying A LOT coming from someone who makes a damn fine salad. I would order it again and again and again. Plus, the large portion was actually meal sized!

Hey hey! Talk about precious cargo!

TJ’s dark chocolate star cookies are likely Kyle’s favorite thing the store sells. Thankfully Santa knows this and makes sure to stock up appropriately.

I took a night off cooking to grab food from Guadalajara! This is a major rarity for me. I have such a hard time justifying eating out in Davis because (a) we don’t have a very good food scene and (b) cooking in is way more economical and we always have something I can turn into a meal, even if it’s not what I’m totally in the mood for. But in this particular instance, we had been gone all day celebrating my niece’s first birthday (!!) and visiting friends while in their neighborhood, so I was pretty darn spent when we got home at 5. Guad for the win. I got the pork carnitas plate, which came with refried beans, rice, guacamole, and tortillas. I love their beans so much.

And since the rest of this post features all our meals out this month (which feels like a lot now that I’m looking back on it), here is our family New Year’s brunch date.

Naturally we went to Pushkin’s. The best breakfast spot within driving distance, in my opinion.

Kyle got the chicken and waffles (which is usually my go-to order), while I picked the vegan yogurt parfait. I have always loved the coconut yogurt, but like other coconut products, it fills me up quickly! It’s so thick and rich!

The kids split a waffle and a two egg plate (scrambled with bacon, hash browns and salad).

Always a good time!

More restaurant dates in 2020! Be it with the whole fam or just my husband, I need to keep pushing myself to go out because the memories are worth much more than the money we spend. And if I type it out here, maybe it will actually sink in.

Hi Cathy! I’ve missed writing!!! My blog has been not uploading pics so I had to work out the kinks…it took me two days focusing alllll my free time on it (time I didn’t have until the kids went back to school). I am so not good with coding and figuring out ways to work around all the bugs. For now, I’m getting there…but sheesh!!!
