Fighting the sniffles

We have a mini vacation (long weekend getaway) planned and OF COURSE V is starting to sniffle and cough.  NOOOOOO.

We have miraculously escaped catching any colds aside from the ones they both got the first week that school started.  I guess our time was up.

That said, I’m fighting this one tooth and nail because I am determined to have a medicine free hotel stay.  We are all sharing a room and coughing all night is not the vacation I signed up for. If one person is up, everyone is up.  No bueno.

First things first, inhalers around the clock for P.  I want to ramp up his immune system asap.

Next up, vitamin C overload.

I made them fresh orange juice (cut with ginger kombucha) for an afternoon snack.  They have been splitting a bottle of ‘buch on the daily now as a part of their afternoon snack.  They love every flavor I make except for lemon, which is fine with me because that’s my fave.

And finally, a healthy meal and early bedtime.

I didn’t think it would happen quite so soon, but here we are, all eating out of adult sized bowls.  Long gone are the days of toddler dishes…these babes can EAT.  And if salmon is on the menu, you better believe they are bringing their appetites.

I’m really into Napa cabbage right now, but it’s hard to find organic.  I’m banking on the fact that cabbage is generally low in pesticides because of its natural resilience to bugs.  Also, I discarded the outer leaves, which tend to protect the inner leaves from most sprays.

I sautéed broccoli, cauliflower, and snap peas in sesame oil until they were browned all over and just barely cooked.  Once they cooled I added them to the sliced cabbage and tossed it all with all but 1 tbsp of this home-made teriyaki sauce.

Then in the same pan, I added more oil and sautéed the salmon with the last tbsp of the teriyaki.

Once those were cooked, I assembled the bowls.

First with brown rice, then with the teriyaki veggie salad, then the salmon.

WEE!

How many leftovers?  None.  Not. A. One.

And then I dipped into this while watching Making a Murder.  OMG you guys.  We have one episode left and my mind is being B L O W N.  If you have watched season one but haven’t started season two yet, you have gotta tune in.  If you have, then you know what I mean when I say, Kathleen Zellner is my hero.  She is soooo smart.

Dessert was good too.

I keep meaning to comment on your bowls—I really like them! Where are they from? They look big enough to eat a meal out of, yet not mixing bowl huge.

Cracks me up the kids like kombucha! But then again of course they do…. i hope all sniffles were stopped in their tracks! I love nappa cabbage and certainly buy a lot more of it during the winter, it’s so great for salads since it’s sturdy but not as tough as regular cabbage.
That’s kinda crazy the kids have such appetites!
