Is it bleu?

I don’t have a photo of my brekkie, but I had the rest of the previous day’s acai bowl.  And ANOTHER maca ball.  Gah, they are so good!  I’m definitely keeping Choice in business while we are here on the island.  After that, me and my hula girl went out to the beach for the Marriott’s bubble mania fun.

Followed by some time at the pool.  She really fell in love with the slide this morning.

For lunch I walked down the beach path to the Westin’s poolside cafe, Relish Burger Bistro.  It’s hard to keep track of all the different Westin hotels, but this one is neither the Nanea timeshare location nor the Ka’anapali Ocean Resort & Spa that I mentioned going to earlier in the vacation.  Anyway, I’ve never been to this one before, but since I looooove the food from the other Westins, I figured this would probs rock too.

I got the lomi lomi cobb with romaine, watercress, bleu cheese, tomatoes, avo, chicken, pipikaula, hard boiled eggs, dijon-sherry vinaigrette.

I asked to swap in goat cheese for bleu cheese, but as you can see in the photo above that didn’t happen.  They had goat cheese on another salad on the menu so I knew they had it in the kitchen but there was something lost in translation.

I had a feeling this was going to be an issue from the second I ordered because the person taking my order had no idea what I was talking about and acted as if he was hearing of goat cheese for the first time in his life (it wasn’t a waiter because it was a takeaway order).  I ended up writing it down on his note pad FOR HIM because he wasn’t grasping it at all.  So of course when the salad came out and the cheese was obviously bleu cheese I told him it was wrong and he went back to the kitchen to see what was up.  Next thing I know the chef has come out to assure me it’s goat cheese.  I mean….what do they thing I am?  An idiot?  It’s unmistakably bleu cheese.  Rather than argue with him, I just said fine and went back to our hotel to eat my lunch in peace.

I bought mac nuts on the way home to add to the salad.  It only took one bite (really a sniff, but I sampled it just in case) for me to recognize the BLEU CHEESE.  It’s blue for crying out loud.  Heaven help anyone who goes to the Westin with food allergies if the chef can’t even tell the difference between a cow cheese and a goat cheese.  I was so annoyed but had zero interest in walking all the way back.  I was hungry!  So I just scraped it all off.  Really, though, they need to be educated because whether or not they were lying to me or legitimately didn’t know doesn’t matter.  It’s not okay to mess up a dairy thing like that.  People (like my son!) with milk protein allergies could end up in the hospital!

Ok, I’m too fired up.  At least it was easy to remove.  And the salad was still good, in spite of the missing cheese.

We went to the activity center afterwards to rent some puzzles for that night and they played for a while too.

Then it was back to pool.

We went back to the Fish Market for takeout.  I got two orders of fish and chips for me and the kids and Kyle got the crab cake sandwich.

It was all so good.  They make such good fish and chips.  The breading is awesome and the fish is insanely fresh.  It’s perfection.

I love reading all the holiday posts, it looks fantastic and you guys look so relaxed and happy! Also, while I’m pretty sure it’s not the case here (i.e. it sounds like the people at the restaurant had no clue what they were doing and serving) but it IS possible to get blue goats cheese…

That’s kinda what I was thinking, which was why I tried it. Does it taste the same? I love all the things they can do with goat milk nowadays. Anyway, I realllly dislike that funky flavor. Stinky cheese is not my thing at all. 😛

Haha I love any type of cheese, the stinkier the better 😉 I think you’d be able to tell blue goats cheese from blue cow’s cheese, it would still have that ‘goat’ flavour to it, so I think you got jibbed 🙁
