Oregon and Idaho III

This will be quick because we drove back in two days with a quick stop in Bend for the night.

We got coffee at Bobbie Jean’s (MEH) on the way out of town and can’t say much about it. I never thought I’d miss Starbucks coffee, but I was really really ready for a decent cup of decaf by the time we got home.

We had lots of food for the road because Kyle’s parents grilled extra tri-tip for us and then we packed up a ton of other goodies. No shortage of food for our six hour stretch.

We stayed in the Old Mill district, which was super cute. I had never been to Bend before but Kyle had been briefly and therefore had a good idea of where we should stay.

We made great time on the drive and so after checking in to our hotel we were able to walk a few blocks around the corner to land smack dab in the middle of the Old Mill District. We strolled along the Deschutes River while the kids got their wiggles out and then popped into a few stores on the way back. It was super relaxing.

We even managed to squeeze in some time at the hotel pool! After so many hours in the car, we knew they’d need some physical activity to exert themselves or they would never go to bed at night!

I told Kyle we had to come back to spend more time in Bend…and when we do I am definitely coming back to this same hotel. It was phenomenal. Free buffet breakfast in the morning. Pool and gym access. And SO CHEAP (I’m a bare bones hotel kinda girl, especially if it’s just one night, so we all shared a big room). The kids hadn’t napped all day, so thanks to that, and the pool time, they went to bed really easily.

Easy enough for us to watch TV while they snoozed away!

Anyway, before all that, we went back and showered and went out to dinner.

It was close enough to walk, so that was nice.

Kyle decided on the restaurant, McMenamins, which he had been to before. It’s cool because the building(s) are an old catholic school that has since been converted into a huge bar/restaurant/hotel thing. Kinda a funky vibe.

The food wasn’t gourmet or anything, but we weren’t really looking for that since we were dining with the kids.

The both chose pepperoni pizza, Kyle got steak, and I got salmon with roasted potatoes and broccolini.

My stomach had been off all day and I was barely hungry, and nothing sounded good, so it took me a LONG time to pick this out. I gave all the broccolini to Kyle because he wanted veggies and my body did not. If we could go back again there was a Brussels sprouts appetizer that sounded so good that I would love to try.

They actually brought Kyle the wrong steak (he order steak au poivre not steak and frites), but because it took so long (and the kids were not going to last another 30-45 minutes for them to make another steak), he just ate what they brought. It was kinda funny because of all the things on the menu he was trying to avoid fries because we had had SO MANY all vacation long and he was not in the mood…but the universe just reallllly wanted him to have fries. Needless to say, he was very happy to have my broccolini.

The next morning was easy peasy because our hotel had a (free) breakfast buffet, which was exceptional to say the least. I am not usually impressed by such things, but this was a really good spread!

After that we packed up the car and headed on home…

This time we shared the driving and, although it was a little boring at times, it was still pretty great.

Back in Davis it was HOT HOT HOT, so we sprayed ourselves down while giving Pearl a bath. She was covered in bugs and needed some major scrubbing.

Thanks to the DVD player and Zofran the kids were both entertained and we didn’t have any car sickness. WINS ALL AROUND.

Looking forward to more interstate road trips in the future!
