The weekly menu

Here’s the rest of the dinners I didn’t get around to sharing on the last post… For this bowl I made a tamari miso sauce (we don’t even have to use tamari anymore!) and roasted three blocks of firm pressed tofu.  We had a little extra tofu but two blocks doesn’t cut it for us any more.  Both P and V eat tofu raw with gusto.  I put a little of the sauce on it before roasting it as a marinade, but mostly saved it for adding to the completed dish. It’s so weird to suddenly realize all… Read more >

Getting back into it

After an exhausting flight home Kyle and I were so ready for the kids to sleep!!  Because they’d taken no naps at all (ZERO) combined with the time change meant we were able to put them down for bed as soon as we stepped in the front door.  That’s the silver lining way of looking at it.  But they went down with relief, so that was good.  Then food.  Then unpacking. I scrounged some barely alive kale and cabbage from the crisper drawer and added Caesar dressing and (imported) macadamia nuts for a decent meal.  It… Read more >

Maui-ed 4

Fishing for grandpa. Wednesday was our “free day” before the wedding (as in the day where nothing was planned) so we kept it mellow with no plans.  V was still showing signs of fussiness, but we still didn’t know if it was her being sick or just stranger anxiety heightened by the foreign setting.  She’s usually the most happy go lucky girl, so it was really bizarre to have a high maintenance kid on our hands.  I had a bunch of mixed feelings about it though because she was nursing a lot more than she normally… Read more >

Maui-ed 3

Hindsight is 20/20 and looking back I can now say with certainty, this was the day when we should have realized something was wrong with my baby girl.  The poor thing was up way early and then after I nursed her she snuggled back in bed with Kyle and I and slept for another few hours (!!!!).  This is inanely unlike her.  She doesn’t snuggle at all.  Like, at. all.  She won’t curl into bed with us, she won’t be rocked, she won’t tolerate anything that seems like a hug.  None of it.  So her… Read more >

Maui-ed 2

The next morning we were up early (except P) because V hadn’t yet adjusted to the time change.  She was up at 4 something though so I guess it could have been worse. After making peeps a light (HA!) breakfast of eggs, waffles, and bacon we headed to the Wailea Marriott Resort’s kid pool.  I had yogurt and granola because I’m still into sweet breakfasts.  They had Kite Hill’s almond yogurt at the Maui Whole Foods so I obviously went for it.  Nothing like paying 200% the price of something that’s already $$$ on mainland…  But it’s… Read more >
