The weekly menu

I will warn you going into this post, the planned menu was largely ignored this week thanks to the previously mentioned GI bug that made it’s way through the house. We started strong with the pulled pork Caesar (as written on the blackboard), but from there it all kinda deteriorated. This pulled pork is from Costco… The only ingredients are pork, water, salt, sodium nitrate, and spice extract.  It comes with a TON of meat, and even after all three of our dinners, there’s still enough for at least four more family meals.  Seriously, lots of bang… Read more >

To gammas!

This weekend we went home to my parents’ house.  P is obsessed (OBSESSED) with my mom (well…he’s obsessed with my dad and “Auntie Bee” too, but, definitely my mom more than anyone because she visits all the time).  But he can’t say “R” sounds yet, hence the title. Breakfast smoothie du jour. We debated keeping him up after swimming or letting him nap in the car, but the commute to their house is under an hour so it’s not an ideal nap length.  Fortunately, he got a second (post-swimming) wind and had no trouble chatting our… Read more >

I have over 10 web pages open on my browser right now and they all involve either a zucchini galette recipe or a vegetarian cookbook I am lusting over.  I think it’s safe to say I’m feeling inspired by spring produce.  Weirdly (and I was just telling my parents this) I think spring is my least favorite in terms of seasonal eating.  I am SO OVER recipes with ramps and radishes in my reader feed. Ugh.  Bring on summer please.  But yeah, zucchini. Zucchini counts as a summer crop in my book, so it’s safe from… Read more >

Weekend prep needed

Two big reasons for getting myself in gear this past weekend: 1. Kyle is out of town for a couple days and 2. I need to get my eating back on track [Tip of the iceberg] I’ve been eating good quality whole foods for the most part, but I have been eating a TON of candy at night.  Like a ton.  And it makes me feel gross.  I want to stop it.  So that means I have to set myself up for success by making other options.  I have to eat yummy food to make sure I… Read more >

The weekly menu

This week was the week that needed very little planning because so many of our friends brought us food.  So clutch. Backing up to Saturday. It was Picnic Day here in Davis which is a big deal.  The whole campus has events all day long.  And since it’s an aggie school, there were obviously tons of animals.  We spent much of the afternoon enjoying time with friends and livestock. And when we got home we had this on our front porch! Roasted red potatoes, asparagus, and pineapple pork tenderloin. Mmmmm… I’m so thankful for all the… Read more >
