Herbs forever

Now that I’ve shared the candied walnuts recipe and my number one salad, I may as well show my other salad that’s been in the rotation. Even though I don’t have many herbs in my garden (YET), I have been able to make the ones from my CSA (and friend’s gardens) last forever. I keep them stored standing up in jars of water in the fridge and they literally last weeks that way. The herbs I used in this salad were: basil, cilantro, and mint. But first, I massaged the kale in a miso tamari… Read more >

Candied nuts

A friend gifted me a couple of bags of walnuts long before this covid ish all went down and they have been in the freezer just waiting for something special. She has them in excess because her family farms them and she doesn’t even like them (can you imagine!!) so I told her I would be VERY happy to take some off her hands. That was back in February. Sure enough, next time I saw her at church she had two huge bags ready for me. These are the perks of living in an ag… Read more >

Still staying home

Look at what I’ve become!! I’m not driving, so why shouldn’t I start drinking at noon?![I’m not actually drinking at noon – but I certainly wouldn’t judge anyone who was] iHerb is CRUSHING the delivery game! They have been keeping my sweet tooth happy and my latest delivery arrived in TWO DAYS?!?! Crazy. I also got coffee for me and Kyle (caf and decaf), tortilla chips, farro, quinoa, candied ginger, stevia, ketchup and I can’t recall what else. But all my pantry staples. Highly recommend the service, and if you want 5% off your order… Read more >

Therapy baking

I am happy to report I finally got bread flour. And 30 grams of yeast. But only 30 grams. Which means I was able to bake one loaf. Juuuuust enough to scratch the itch, but not enough to fully satisfy it. This gorgeous gal was VERY well received and was the main course for dinner the night after I made it. So many goodies! We had two kinds of brie (cow and goat milk), prosciutto, red walnuts, and a fig orange preserve. I used a white bread recipe, but adapted it for a boule rather… Read more >

No recipe chili

I don’t have much to say…so I’m not sure why I’m here, but I took photos of this big pot of chili that I made (which is now gone) so I thought I may as well post them. It feels comforting to do some of the same things in the midst of everything else being different. I’m glad I got the 8 quart IP. I use it once a week minimum – often while the 6 quart is simultaneously occupied (with oats or hard boiled eggs or some grain that I need cooked stat). I… Read more >
