13 (nearly) Thursday things

1. I don’t know what day it is today.  We are finally home after over 45 hours of transport.  Maybe 48 hours.  I don’t know.  All I know is I woke up at 6 am on Tuesday to catch our first flight in Uruguay and it’s currently Thursday in Uruguay.  You do the math.  I’m obviously in no condition to add.

2.  One of our layovers was 12 hours long.  Yikes.

3.  I just got back from a run.  Yes.  Given the previous two points, some may call me crazy.  Some may be right.  I really just love running okay?  No, but seriously, it was such a good one.  I don’t even know how, but I felt like I was flying.  I’m pretty sure I went one mile in 20 minutes, but I don’t even care.  I was in heaven.

4.  I’m obsessed with the "words with friends" app.  It’s an addiction.  Feel free to challenge me…I play really sophisticated words like "turd."

Yes, I took a photo because of the letters.  But please note the score anyway.  #domination

5.  I didn’t go to a single Starbucks over the two weeks we were on vacation.  Not once!  However, I’ve had three grande soy mistos in the last 48 hours (don’t judge, did you read #2?).

IMG_4687

Oh and in Argentina, my name is normal.

IMG_4688

Hooray for not being called Elsie!!

IMG_4685

Check it out!?!  South American Starbucks are hip on organic, gluten free, super food filled bars.

IMG_4686

And they were good!  More savory than sweet – like Chinese sesame balls.

6.  Our sink is clogged.  Again.  Talk about fun things to come home to…

IMG_4712

At least I had a package from Lollihop waiting for me :)

7.  I read the word "applause" as "applesauce" today.  I actually turned to Kyle and asked why the situation needed applesauce – he was very confused.  This is what happens when you are delirious and following a low FODMAPS diet

8.  I think I’m getting punchy!!

9.  Don’t forget to enter my giveaway because I’m announcing the winners tomorrow.

10.  I got a kindle from my parents for Christmas (before I left for vacation) and I’m in love.

Two weeks, five books, zero luggage space.  Win.

11.  I haven’t even started my Christmas shopping.  Good thing I’m working on Christmas.

12.  Empty fridge means…

IMG_4713

Whole Foods, duh.  Salad with pasta, seitan, tempeh, sprouts, brown rice, peas, and who knows what else.

13.  I almost threw away my plane outfit I was so sick of it, but we just finished washing four loads of laundry (including my vacation-wear) so maybe I’ll just wrap it and give to my sister for Christmas instead.  [kidding Laura!]

    I have a list for you too…

    1. I’m glad I got you hooked on words with friends.
    2. I’m very proud of you for avoiding SBucks in Argentina.
    And most importantly…
    3. I don’t want your overworn reject clothing for Christmas πŸ™‚

  4. reid

Elise, that cracks me up because I just did the same thing (read applause as applesauce) about 10 minutes ago!
    I thought “canned applesauce? WHY?”
We must be on the same wavelength!
Hope you have an awesome holiday. πŸ™‚

Jealous! I really need an iPhone!
Flirted with the idea of a kindle, but I think I may miss flipping pages? I won’t miss my suitcase going over the 50 pound limit though…
I’ve been searching for new reads. What books did you read?

  6. Yolie @ Practising Wellness

Aaah, so fun! That wholefoods salad sounds amazing, 12 hours for a layover if spent in the airport sounds horrific, so much kudos to you for going for a run, so jealous (and happy for you) about your KINDLE! πŸ˜€ xyx

Welcome back! I feel like most of my vacations end like this, even when I’m just gone for the weekend. My brain goes on full vacation and thinks like adding and reading become much more challenging than they should be!

  8. Layne

Can’t wait for your review of Argentina! I’m headed there for a 2 week vacay in March so I can use some tips! Also I am getting a Kindle Touch for Christmas so I’m glad you like yours. Did I mention I’m also a huge fan of the bux soy mistos…but I never expect them to spell my name correctly. πŸ™‚ Just too many similarities in this post so I had to share!

  10. Sarah @ The Smart Kitchen

I am totally with you on the need to just MOVE when you get home from a trip, no matter how long and tiring it has been. [I might not be with you on the running, per se… ;)]

i read mindy kalings book – hilarious, on par with chelsea handler and tina fey. i read “girl in translation” which was AWESOME. new fave for sure. i read “blue bistro” which was a good and easy beach read. i read “the ninth wife” which i didnt really like and wouldnt rec. and i started “room” which i’m still reading. its cool bc you can also get tour books on it, so i had access to guide books for argentina and uruguay too. and i had my moms entire library since i bought it on her amazon account. i really love my kindle and i NEVER thought id sell out bc im a barnes and noble whore. i love bookstores, so i will miss the smell of the book pages and browsing the store, but its way easier when traveling.

wow. so many things we have in common right now!!! you are going to LOVE argentina. or at least buenos aires if thats where you are headed…i could have stayed there way longer. uruguay was ok, but i absolutely ADORED BsAs. ill get you the recs for restaurants if i cant get the posts up in time. where are you headed? staying? food prefs? etc.

I’m going with a group of friends, several of us vegetarians, but I do also make an effort to avoid dairy if possible. We’re trying to squeeze in Buenos Aires, Iguazu, Mendoza, and Patagonia for some glacier and penguin viewing. Only thing we have booked so far are international flights, hotels and such are still being researched, so any tips on where to stay and eat would be a huge help! Thanks Elise!

  14. Pure2raw twins

12 hour layover I would need a lot of coffee as well!! and can never go wrong with a Whole Foods salad πŸ˜‰

  15. Lou

    What is getting “punchy”?

Oh we got my Mum a kindle… they are too cool, now I want one!

    12 hours layover? Ick.

I love the name Elise…. Elsie not so much πŸ˜‰ Frustrating – people get my last name wrong all the time… always spelt and pronounced wrong – I’m totally changing my name when I get married next year just due to that πŸ™‚
