20 hours of giving thanks

On Thursday morning Kyle and I woke up at 2:50 am.  The things you do to avoid LA traffic… We had already loaded the car the night before, so all we needed was coffee, diet soda (yes, desperate times call for desperate measures) and water, and we were off!  The beloved I-5 may have been pitch black, but it was also car free.  I was behind the wheel until 7 am, at which point my tired eyes and nearly-bursting bladder got their way.  Four straight hours with a gallon of liquids (mostly diuretics)…you do the… Read more >

Flashback Friday: Hawaiian honeymoon day 6

The last day 🙁 How sad that I’m now reliving the angst that accompanied this island goodbye all over again… Since our flight’s departure wasn’t until 5 pm, we decided to make the most of our last day on Kauai and drive up and around to the Northern part of the island that we hadn’t yet seen.  Along the way we stopped for lunch at a local veg-friendly joint that had been recommended to us for a good meal.  Mermaids Cafe was a hop, skip, and a jump away from being a ghetto hole-in-the-wall place. … Read more >

Winner winner turkey dinner

Happy Thanksgiving all!  Just popping in to announce the winners of my Coconut Bliss giveaway. Drum roll please… Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine said “I’d like to try the chocolate peanut butter!! (US, btw)” & Susan @ The Great Balancing Act said “Favourite ice cream topping is a cherry on top! Maraschino. Of course. Oh, and I’m entering the Canadian giveaway.  Hope you have fun at both your dinners!” Now back to stuffing my face!

It’s a happy day

Because it’s my sister’s birthday!! I’m going home tomorrow to celebrate with her and I can’t wait!! To put it simply, she brings out the best in everyone. And I love her for it 🙂 Happy birthday Laura.  Don’t forget to dance like nobody’s watching (but next time don’t set the camera self timer).    Because your Jillian-inspired moves WILL end up on the blog.  [Note: this is one of the top-secret-under-wraps (aka hideously embarrassing) photos from the sister sleepover the night before my wedding so if you don’t hear from me in the next 24… Read more >

Nursing 101

Take care of yourself.  You can’t take care of patients if you’re sick, so neglecting your own health is as good as bailing on your patients.  You know…that whole apply your own oxygen mask first analogy… That’s what we learned in nursing school.  But I have to be honest; I don’t know many nurses who follow that advice.  And today, I fell victim as a result.  Nursing fail. It all started with a crappy night’s sleep.  I woke up 4 times drenched in sweat.  Those were the first red flags.  Ignored.  I still got up… Read more >
