Australia: Coogee and Bondi

Laura took a half day on Friday so after our morning routine she came home and we hit the road.  Off to Coogee! She used to live in Coogee (first in 2007 and then again in 2012 when she returned to Oz before she moved to her current place).  So she knows the area quite well.  She cheated on her former employer (Coogee Cafe) and took us to Globe Fine Food & Coffee.   She warned us that the service wasn’t amazing, but the food was.  Plus it was on a cute street that had… Read more >

Parties & Dates

After a long work week, Kyle and I soaked up the weekend like two sponges.  And of course, I’m only just now getting around to blogging about it.  So pathetic.  But let’s just pretend this is timely and the weekend was yesterday, okay? Starting with a Friday date night at Whole Foods.   He got off work before I did so he walked from our apt and met me there once I peaced out of the hospital.   I had salad bar ADD, but eventually got myself squared away with a monster salad – complete… Read more >

Adios Madrid

Our final day together in Spain was only partially spent in Madrid. To anyone considering a day trip to El Escorial – go!  It’s an easy excursion that’s interesting even if you’re not a history geek. Croissants. Cafe con soja. I was psyched to see a new city since I’d already been everywhere else we’d travelled thus far.  Plus, I… Read more >

Day trip to Toledo

May 17th After a hideous night’s sleep I was extremely grumpy in the AM.  I hid it pretty well although I don’t think I strung more than ten words together until noon. We cafe-d and got desayuno para llevar and then set off to Atocha for the second day in a row.  [This time we actually had the intention of going somewhere] Having already purchased tix the day before, we had time to sit and enjoy breakfast before boarding the renfe train to Toledo. My seat mate was tuning me out. Clearly, I wasn’t enjoying… Read more >

Retiro Picnic

May 16th We were supposed to meet Alene & Ethel in the morning, but they needed extra zzzz time so the Dieden clan headed out to take on Madrid once again as a party of five. Starting with Atocha, we took in the station from afar, then up close, then inside. I hadn’t seen it since the bombings in 2004, so I was curious how different it would look from the first time I saw it (in 2002). It felt like a greenhouse because of the section of plant life with the clear glass windows… Read more >
