Comments, Questions, Concerns

Let’s start with comments.

Turns out, you all have similar experiences with the males in your lives (being horrible at finding things in the fridge).

Lately I’ve turned to notes.  They’ve actually proved to be quite effective!

I’ll get recipes out for these meals soon(ish).

Now, for the question portion of the post.

IMG_5462

What do you do with a box of fresh oranges?

IMG_5465

Juuuuuuice!

I do have a real question though.  Do you have to peel oranges before you juice them?

IMG_5463

I did because I assume the peels and rinds will be bitter and make the juice taste like ass, but I’d love to forgo this step in the future if possible.  Let me know!

Same question with ginger root.  Do you have to peel off the outer husk part or just chop off a knob and throw it in?

Fresh OJ is so frothy and tangy and yummmmmy.  Ordinarily, I don’t like orange juice unless it’s paired with champagne, but this fresh squeezed business may as well be a different food group entirely for all it lacks in common with the juice you buy in the store.

I have all kinds of delicious orange julius recipes going through my head now.

Last but not least, concerns.

There are two things that are wildly popular right now that actually make me cringe.  And they are the following:

Pinterest – Seriously, do I really need another reason to browse the internet?  I already have the entire blog world, along with facebook and twitter, at my fingertips, so why the hell do I need another thing to distract me from having a real life.  My to-do list gives me enough anxiety right now…add on a few more things and I will need to be committed for "exhaustion".  If you like a recipe, hairdo, armchair, candle holder, or whatever – great!  I’m sure Santa will be thrilled to make it happen for you next December.  I don’t know how helpful he will be with the DIY projects though.

Angry Birds – I was vaguely aware of this game last year, but now you cant even step foot into a freakin’ Barnes & Noble without the franchise’s crap being shoved down your throat.  I really feel bad for the parents who have to ride this trend out.

Phew.  I feel so much better now that I got that off my chest [sorry if I sounded like a scrooge there].

To end this post on a positive here’s something I’m 100% into.

New shoes yo!  I got these Nike Free Walk+ kicks for work because the Onitsuka Tigers by Asics that I’ve been rocking for the past year and a half were offering no support whatsoever.

IMG_5524_2

P.O.C.

It’s not like my scrubs are making a fashion statement – may as well bring some fun to my ‘fit with pink shoes.

Anyone use Nike+ with a iPhone?  How accurate is the GPS?  Will it work if I’m doing laps from one patient’s room to another’s?

Ok, that’s all for now.  Thanks in advance for your comments, questions answers, and concerns. :)

I’ve heard using Nike+ definitely works.. a nurse on my unit tracked something like 5 miles one night shift. I just got a Nike SportsWatch and was planning on tracking how much I walk @ work next week – if you get to it first, please post whether it worked or not!

I peel my oranges because you are 100% right, the peel makes it taste AWFUL. I do NOT peel my ginger and it’s always just fine. The strangest thing is, I don’t peel my lemons and they turn out fine too. Stupid oranges.

I never peel my ginger (for smoothies either.). Tastes good!

definitely yes on peeling the oranges. the ginger doesn’t have to be peeled, but if you are juicing other pulpy things (like celery) then i would peel it because it clogs the juicer faster. happy juicing :)

yes, peel those babies! I speak from experience. it’s SO bitter and yes Ass-ish. I never tried juicing ginger, but I’d definitely peel those too. I think only the fresh ones (with skin where you can use a spoon to peel off) you can probably throw in whole. Those are SUPER hard to find, unless you grow your own.

What did you do with your orange peels?? Have you ever dehydrateted them, then ground and used like an aromatic powder??

damn, thats such a clever idea!. i saved some to zest for a bread recipe, but otherwise i chucked em. ive candied the peels before and dipped them in chocolate, but it was a ton of work for very little reward.

Thank heavens to hummus that someone else is sane about this Pinterest issue. Good lord. The last thing I need is another time suck, and like you said, what’s the point? If you like something, great. Please don’t ask me what kind of gum I’m chewing and then ask me if I’m on Pinterest so you can “pin” it. Between that and the word “detox,” I’m about to “pin” my eyes out.

Sorry. Rant over. Amen, sister.

I completely agree about pinterest. I have a profile but I never look at it, haha I have plenty of other things to waste my time away with.

I originally thought the same thing about pinterest… and I can totally see how it can become a time suck… BUT! I also think it can be a useful place to store inspiration or recipe ideas. I’m currently planning my wedding, and in the past if I saw an image I wanted to keep for inspiration or ideas or to pass along to a vendor I would save it to a folder on my desktop (and never be able to remember where I originally spotted it), but with Pinterest you can just save it there and when you click on the picture it will take you to the original website. I guess I use mine more an an online catalog.

i can see how with wedding planning it would be easy to have everything in one place. but thats honestly the only practical use for it that i can think of.

Yes, you have to peel citrus in order to juice it. However, I’ve never peeled my ginger before juicing, and it always seems to work out fine. I’ve always wondered if maybe it would juice more effectively with no skin, but honestly, I’m too lazy to take the time. :)

I just learned about Pinterest a couple weeks ago…and then also learned that my recipes are being pinned! I have absolutely no interest in Pinterest but am totally psyched that people are sharing my recipes :) Angry Birds = heard of it, like you said it is all over B&N, no idea what it actually is, no desire to find out what it is. But, that’s just me…I’ve never been into video/computer games. Love your new sneaks – very cool. Phew :)

Friends don’t let friends Pinterest, for reals… You’ll find crafts for rooms in houses you’ll never have!! In the same breath… @Valina take all the peels and candy them and dip the ends in dark chocolate or finely shop them and some almonds and mix with dark chocolate and make your own bars and give as gifts

Pinterest is THE BEST way to organize all of those things that you find on the internet and want to remember, but don’t want to either leave the tab open indefinitely or send it to bookmark purgatory. Unless you are actually good about going through and organizing/looking at your bookmarks tab, Pinterest is VERY useful!!
