In & out of labor

I worked Saturday, but had Sunday and Monday off.  Wee!

Let’s fly through Saturday so I can show the fun stuff.

I got up at 4:30 am to work out.  It was mediocre since I had a headache.  I don’t know that my heart rate got up since there wasn’t any cardio going on, but I did some weight stuff, resistance bands, and yoga/stretching for 30 minutes.

My headache disappeared once I drank a few glasses of water (and a mug of almond milk/coffee).  My half-caf-java was followed by the above breakfast of vanilla soy yogurt, banana, Udi’s GF granola

Whole Soy & Co. soy yogurt is as good a brand as I’ve been able to track down.  It’s organic, non-GMO, and the ingredients don’t scare me.  I prefer Stonyfield’s O’Soy but I haven’t seen it in stores in a while.

At work I had oatmeal with almond milk, dried apples, goji berries, and cinnamon.

Work was fine.  Just a normal Saturday (slower than a week day) with two nice patients and one crazy one.

Kyle was at a friends house for this season’s Fantasy Football draft and was sending me updates of our roster throughout the afternoon.  I think our team is pretty good this year.  We have another draft next week, for a different league.  I know, I’m a geek.  We are co-managers in one league, but have our own teams in a different league.  Let the sh!t talking begin.  :)

Other snacks: Banana Bread Larabar, carrots & apple (both eaten with Justin’s peanut butter), & FSTG multigrain chips.

The other tupperware above is holding my lunch sammie, which I made with half a Udi’s GF bagel.

I stuffed it with leftover strata.

I actually tried to pick out the kale, veggie and tofu parts so I wouldn’t be eating bread on bread.

IMG_1477

After work I picked up Kyle and a few other drunk boys and dropped them off before making myself dinner.

IMG_1484

I wasn’t that hungry, so I settled on a big smoothie.  26 ounces to be exact.

It was simple.  Just frozen strawberries, almond milk, and soy yogurt.

IMG_1485

It tasted like strawberry ice cream that was in the prime stages of melting.  However, it did leave me freezing cold.  Sweatshirt required.  Maybe it’s getting me into the fall mood?

I had tea to warm me back up, and crystallized ginger for dessert.  I’m happy to report that Whole Foods is stocked back up – although I got 6 bags on my last trip to Trader Joe’s so I’m set for a little while.

The rest of the weekend was a mix of fun (bridal shower, girly dinner date) and mellow (sleeping in, tv time with Kyle).

Here’s a photo recap:

Royal themed party, complete with pearls and fascinator hats.

IMG_1490

I wore flowers in my hair, but there were some very impressive hats!

I think I made up for my uninspired head gear with my shatter nail polish.

I know this lovely lady would appreciate them.

Food-wise it was such a snoozer of an AM.  Following a semi-lame 20 minute run I had spinach, bananas, and USV almond milk blended into creamy soft-serve form.

Then the bride-to-be picked me up and we drove to Fullerton for her royalty themed shower.

There’s no better ice breaker than speaking with a British accent when you are meeting people for the first time.  I felt like an idiot for the first 5 minutes, but once I made the commitment (and had a glass of wine), I channeled my inner Kate Winslet and went for it.

Pips in British?  Why those would be seeds.  Who knew?  I also learned that a dummy is a pacifier and a nappy is a diaper.

I knew only one person (Cindy, the bride) going to this party, so yes, I was nervous about the food scene.  The fact that Cindy was once a member of a bacon-of-the-month club didn’t bode well for me…so I had a Larabar and a KIND bar in my purse.  I was pleasantly surprised though, to find there were plenty of options for me.  Even the lychee fruit custard (above, left) was made with almond milk.

Egg & tempeh salad on millet bread.

IMG_1465

I like the flavor (dense, with crunchy millet parts & a slight corn bread taste) and nutritional stats (vegan, GF, fruit juice sweetened)…but I’m not so keen on the price.

At the moment, I’m looking up GF bread recipes for a breadmaker.  Six dollars is a bit extreme for a loaf of bread.

And yes, if you have been paying attention, this weekend has been GF for me.  I’m experimenting and I’ll share more details once I know more later.

All the food looks fantastic! I’m glad your friend brought in plenty you can eat, it’s always nice to be pleasantly surprised. Like when my mum actually embraced my veganism and made me an apple pie from vegan with a vengeance!

The brown rice bread is usually 3.99 a loaf… not a whole lot better but saves over a dollar. If you can come up with a gf loaf let me know. While I can make really good gf bread. It’s the sandwich bread that doesn’t fall apart when you pack it for lunch I can’t quite figure out. So I just buy the food for life.

I’m glad it sounds like you got to enjoy most of your weekend! I love the dress you wore to the bridal party, thats such a lovely color on you! The first time I looked at the picture of you and the bride, I thought the green ball hanging in the background was your hat! I thought it was a bit dr.seuss but what do i know about fashion! haha have a wonderful labor day!!

Looks like a fun party! I would have to have a glass of wine to talk in a British accent, too. Sounds like fun, though!

I love Whole Soy and Co’s unsweetened yogurt, it’s perfect with granola and fruit! Recently I have been buying Amande’s almond milk yogurt, it’s pretty good! It has a different texture, but I wanted to cool it on the soy for a bit.

The sell Stoneyfields O’Soy everywhere here in Michigan, but since their live active cultures are from dairy, I have never tried it. Bet it’s great!

That party looks like so much fun!! Chelsey just recently posted a link to her favorite GF bread machine recipe.

Hi five for GF!!! Also, GF-vegan bread is virtually non-existent over here, and it is so expensive.

Replied to your email 🙂 🙂

hey! i know you’re not totally strict on the dairy but i wanted to mention i picked up some o’soy in the grocery store the other day, about to buy it, and noticed it has regular milk in it as well as soy milk. what the heck?!

the active cultures are from dairy. i never had a problem with it, but i agree, its a bit bizarre.

I know this is an old post, but I wanted to add my vote for the Whole Soy & Co yogurt. I had some this morning and I LOVE this stuff! Much creamier (and healthier) than dairy versions.
