Like a carry-out

*Post’s title courtesy of my lover, JT (and due to the fact that I ate several meals out this weekend).

Apparently I just can’t get my blogging self together on the weekends (or when the weather is nice).  Sooo, Happy (belated) Easter!  And now for a quickie recap of the last couple of days…

Saturday

The AM can be summarized pretty briefly:  Starbucks, shopping, more shopping, and (finally) lunch at home.

IMG_8259

So far all the Gardein products I have tried have been fresh (not frozen) ones, so making the meat-free buffalo wings was my first time with the thawing process.

IMG_8260IMG_8262

On the left: frozen.  On the right: after some micro nuking.  Below: salad-ified.

IMG_8263

Holy hell.  I’m not a wuss, but hot damn these were spicy!  There were times I was chugging water to wash down (what I’m assuming were) pepper flakes.  Since I’ve never had real buffalo wings, answer me this…is this what they are like?  Thank the lord I had them mixed with a ton of veggies (spinach, brocc, corn, edamame, & carrots) otherwise my tongue may have lost the ability to taste.  It was good, but definitely FAR spicier than I was expecting.  Wow.

Prepare for a small shock here.  There was no snacking between lunch and dinner for me, aside from this trilogy Kombucha.

IMG_8264

It was soooo amazingly sunny outside that Kyle and I went for a stroll and ended up having dinner out.

Hummus bar?  Yes, please :)   It had been far too long since I last dined at Nanoosh, so I was long overdue.

IMG_8268

How amaze-balls does this look.  I can’t help but say Nanoooooosh while dipping each fluffy pita in creamy chickpea bliss.  It’s a fun restaurant name to say.

IMG_8270IMG_8269

I know I say it each time I write about this restaurant, but these pitas are freakin’ legit – Earth shattering, warm, doughy, fluffy, whole wheat carby deliciousness.  I got a side of raw veg to get in extra fiberrrr, but barely touched the celery.

IMG_8267

Kyle got the Chicken wrap with hummus, tahini, and greens, and a quinoa salad on the side.  He was practically moaning.  I swear.  I was trying not to crack up because he was starting to sound pretty inapprope.

IMG_8197

Back at the casa, Kyle and I watched Away We Go and I had some carob/almond dessert-ables.  The movie was goodish, but I wouldn’t have minded a bit more of a conclusion.  I’m all for open endings and leaving it to the audience to discuss, but there’s also nothing wrong with some closure.  There were a ton of fun actors in it though, and Maggie Gyllenhaal’s role was hilarious.

Sunday

Not a very typical Easter since we didn’t go to church, get baskets, or hunt for eggs, but there was coffee, so I’m not complaining (and they spelled my name right, too!!).

IMG_8275

Starbucks’ soy misto = my perfect Easter

After we de-groggy-eyed, we headed out for more shopping (spring cleaning + a change in weather = new wardrobe).  Kyle was (again) way more successful.  Is it just me, or are this season’s trends hideous?  Or maybe the problem is that the clothes aren’t following the latest trends at all, and the lines are just downright fug.  I found seriously next to nothing I even wanted to try on!  Apparently, if you don’t want to look like a prostitute trapped in clothes sized for a 15 year old, you are S.O.L.  Frrrrustrating.

IMG_8271

We hit up the Chelsea WF for lunch.  The kale/avo salad on the left totally made me think of you Gena (hello, is that not your dream meal to a “t”).  Otherwise the hot bar action was fairly similar to what I always go for…falafel and a tofu dish (so original).  The falafel was actually too hard and without any hummus to dip it in, I was kinda annoyed.  The balsamic grilled tofu dish was great though, so I was happy in the end.  Plus we ate outside, so that made everything 800 times better.

IMG_8272

Kyle got these…and whatever else was in his salad bar box.

After getting enough Vitamin D, we went home and changed into running gear and went for a walk/jog in the park.  It was pretty pathetic as far as work-outs go, and that was all my fault.  My knees have been hurting (I need new runnign shoes) and I was completely unable to get pumped up enough to get going.  As a result I ended up channeling my inner Maggie and just enjoying the sun while walking a few miles.  I liked it.

IMG_8276

Dinner was a big salad with Health is Wealth brand soy (chik’n) nuggets as the central ingred.

Other goodies included leftover celery from Saturday’s dinner, carrots, and corn on a bed of spinach

IMG_8277

With my two fave condiments on top :)

IMG_8278

And a pita & hummus plate a la mode.

IMG_8225IMG_8226

Banana soft serve for dessert.  Sometimes I think frozen bananas deserve their own dedication page…right after hummus.  So good.

Pretty perfect weekend if you ask me, although, I am definitely looking forward to next year when I will be with family for the holidays.

How old were you when you last received a basket from the Easter bunny?  As the oldest child, I was lucky enough to get it for quite some time (younger sisters are good for something…).

looks like a lovely weekend! … my mom still sends me easter goodies, since I haven’t made it home for easter for a few years now. never mind that the treats generally aren’t vegan :) it still makes me happy. makes the husband happy too, since he usually eats all the treats!

have you ever tried frozen bananas with tahini? just dip banana chunks in it then freeze. good stuff!

i got one this year. no joke.

this sounds like the most loveliest of weekends! the dinners out, the walks, the runs (not that kind), the starbucks, the everythang. and that hummus bowl – i just want to eat it right up with my finger!

get new running shoes. when my knees start to hurt, that is when i know i need a new pair too.

i also love that kyle made inapprope noises, and that you used to word “inapprope” because abbreviating things is the story of my life. why we can’t live in the same city and be friends is completely beyond me.

have a wonderful week dear elise!

Haha, you remind me of myself–I’ve tried so many veggie versions of meat dishes that I never actually tasted (e.g., crab cakes, sausage patties, etc.).
I last received an Easter basket yesterday morning:)

I guess i never really knew exactly how long you had been veg for? Unfortunately, i have had chicken wings as a young pup, and although it has been probably close to 16 years, i can tell you that you have not missed anything and if you are gettin’ your spicy protein fix from some gardein goodness, i’m sure they are much tastier than the real thing, not to mention you aren’t eating a dead animal in the process :) What would you do without chickpeas? The amount of hummus you eat is almost comparable to my love for apples, and that is something to be proud of. Did that Synergy ‘splode on ya, or had you already taken a sip from it when pictured? I don’t know when i will learn with those things to pay attention when opening. I always come out of the ordeal looking like i was in a rainstorm or worse… And BUY NEW RUNNING SHOES, i can’t tell you how many people i see with corrected knee problems after switching their shoes up. 3-4 months tops on running shoes. Or 400 miles, whichever comes sooner!

I think I can handle my spice really well, I’ll have to try those wings. I have never had wings in my life.

Mmm, next time I’m in the city I will have to try Nanoosh. Looks awesome!

I am lovin’ this weather. It is so great!

Sunny weekends are a blog fail for me too – too much good stuff to be doing outside!

I want to go to Nanoosh. Now. Next time I’m in NYC I will be hunting it down (with your help, no doubt…) and stuffing my face with that hummus, those pitas…and maybe a side of that wrap.

What a yummy, hummusy few days. I am so stinking jealous of your nice weather. I want to walk in the park and enjoy the sun…I’ll I’ve got is wind right now.

Also, I STILL get Easter baskets from my in-laws, and probably will until little grand babies come along. :-)

Well, it wasn’t in a proper basket this year, but I still got some chocolate eggs and a couple of gift cards! I think, in my case, being an only child (and living just ten miles from my folks) helps a lot!

I’m glad you’re getting some sunny sun sun. And that bowl of hummus looks absolutely divine! I can’t wait for meals with you! Eeek! SOOO many places I want to eat at! We may have to dedicate cheat days to have these meals while we stick to “getting hot bods” for the wedding routine. ;)

Also, I can’t recall the last time I had buffalo wings, but maybe I’ll check out the love of my life’s recipes, Jamie Oliver, and try to make some one of these days. Sigh* Still in love with him.

Hooray for spiciness! I want to try those wings! I actually used to eat buffalo wings a lot, and it’s really all about the blue cheese that you dip them in…Nice blog title, by the way. It’s my first time here and I’m really loving it!

Yep, I still have that bag of buffalo wangz in my freezer because they were so damn hot. The texture freaked me out, too. Too close to the real deal!

I didn’t have much luck with spring shopping, either, until I went shopping with goals. I needed new bottoms and shoes (ok, maybe I didn’t NEED shoes, but whatevs) and then I found some good items.

Uh, the last time I received an Easter basket, I must have been 12 or 13. That’s around the time my mom stopped putting candy in my stocking, too, because she realized I never ate it. I still want it, though, Ma!

I’m so jealous of your eats! I wish I were that creative in the kitchen. I rely way too much on premade stuff (greek yogurt, steamfresh veggies, and deli lunchmeat!) It gets boring!

Oh, and GOTTA LOVE THE FRECKLES! :) mine are coming out too. Hehe.
