My highlights: weeks 9 & 10

Whoa, I don’t know where to begin.

What. A. Vacation.

I highly highly recommend Australia to any and every one looking for vacation ideas.  Sydney is probably not a place I would have considered if my sister didn’t live there, but it’s such a friendly, fun, beautiful city.  Good thing we just bought a house because I can definitely see why my sister lives there and would consider making a move myself had we not locked life down in Davis (I can practically hear my parents sighing as they read this).

The food, the beaches, the people – all amazing.  I have nothing but enthusiastic positive things to say.  I loved every minute of our trip and was so sad to say goodbye to my sister.

I journaled every day but I’m debating how much I post because I don’t know how interesting it would be for others.

P had a bunch of firsts these past couple of weeks, including his first flight.  It went as well as you’d think it would go flying 16 hours with a 13 month old.  Technically we were en route for > 24 hours since the first leg was separated from the second by quite a bit of time, leaving us with a 5 hour layover in LAX.  Fortunately the international terminal is pretty nice, both in terms of food options as well as design.  And let me tell you how amazing flying Virgin Australia is!!!  If you’re gonna do the trek, I would go VA.  On both legs, our flight was barely half full so we had our row to just the three of us (P is a lap child so we only bought 2 seats).  Most everyone on the plane had an empty seat next to him/her, so that was a big deal in and of itself.  Add the accommodating and helpful crew on top and it was pretty much as pleasurable of an experience as it could be.  Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t effortless by any means (try to imagine containing a toddler in a 3×1 foot space for that length of time!), but Patty-cakes was such a good sport.    There was minimal crying, but there was some (thankfully drowned out by the white noise of the plane), and the amount of nursing has thoroughly confused my body, but all in all, I’d consider the flight a success.  No major allergy issues either.  Yay!

P.S. Ergo FTW.

P also got his first exposure to sand, which is funny since we used to go to the beach daily when we lived in Santa Monica.  But we moved when he was a mere 2 months old, so this was his first time on the shore and he wasn’t really sure what to make of it.  He loves water, that’s for sure, but the sand wasn’t really his thing.  We kept trying to lure him out off the towel by putting sticks and flowers and other things he’d want just out of his reach (he’s obsessed with all things botanical), but he wasn’t really falling for it.  There was a little girl on the beach who caught his eye instead.  ;)

We hit up the aquarium, the zoo, and several different bays.  Plus a LOT of great restaurants.

Oh so much fun.

We lucked out with the most perfect weather.  It only rained for a few hours the entire time we were there – most of which was in the evening after we had done all the outdoorsy stuff that day.

The view from a morning run.  Not bad, eh?

I have 100 photos of food from the trip and quadruple that in people and beaches, so I’m pretty sure it would be obnoxious to share all of it.  We’ll see how the jet lag factors in my ability to blog.

More importantly, tomorrow, the love of my life turns 30.

Welcome home! I’m so glad to hear that you had such a wonderful trip, Elise, and, of course, that you’re all back safe and sound (& with no allergy issues!). I can obviously speak only for myself but I’d truly love to see and hear as much as you’re comfortable sharing. This is your space and I think you should feel free to write whatever you’d like. (And selfishly, I find reading about the vacations of others, and faraway places I’ve never been to, fascinating! And I always love your photos.) I hope the jet lag isn’t too bad for any of you ~ wish I had good advice but … I don’t. Again, welcome back ~ it’s always great to “see” you!!
